Could be but going to disagree (respectfully).

Theyre paying Cantwell a lot of money, if anything they'd be inclined to throw him out there too early vs the contrary.

This team looks championship minus O-line and DB (without OJ/Antoine). If Cantwell were ready to be a competent tackle I dont think you roll with a mid o line just to appease a player who isnt going to portal midseason anyway.

I think he's a raw tackle who was extremely hard to eval due to competition and when in camps struggled with pass pro. In the little we've seen from him his feet seem just ok and he plays extremely high. It might be a hard pill to swallow but theres a great chance he's completely unplayable right now against legit competition and wont be for a while.

Maybe, it’s just hard for me to believe he would be worse at tackle than SJ is at guard.

I think part of the reason its hard to believe is because its a bummer.

He was being called the best prospect in the nation, not saying all great linemen are great right away but the ones being touted as the best player in the nation are usually better than SJ midway through freshmen year and not unplayable on a line with serious issues.

The failure was not hitting the portal while having a starter leave to the portal and then betting on two freshman and a fullback to fill the OL. We'll see if we win the game of inches or lose it based on the line.

For old time's sake I will make a comment on how DBs "don't win or lose football games" for the CIS coaching staph who tried to defend the shield in 2024 with that rhetoric.

I would like to add that although Samson is not up to par, he is always next to either SJ or Congdon. Congdon did not have a good outing last game.

What is getting worse? We didn't give up a sack in the second half and we ran for over 4 YPC against the #1 rushing defense in the country (and that is without considering multiple 15+ yard runs that were called back for holding, including the Mark TD on first drive).

Right. And you just can't expect us average fans to understand how he went from the second coming of McKinney in the Spring to now he is on the Pancake Honcho 3 or 4 year path to making an impact.

Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it takes time, but as gurus, OL being a question in a title run year is not ideal.

Someone always taking a shot at SJ when he actually played one of his better games (despite the false starts that Pitt was simulating snaps) and has improved last two weeks
 
Gotta scheme around this **** or hope the light comes on. It is it what it is at this point. If the coaches who see these kids everyday ain’t making changes you CIS coaches should just stop the *****ing and enjoy the show. If you know we suck this bad and think we are gonna lose just be shock when we win and act suprised and thankful. I for one think this team is only gonna get better and win the natty. 1-0 brother go canes.

You kinda lose credibility when you added that last statement. Clearly you weren't around the first year Mario was coach.
 
Ah yes, the Mario doesn't play young guys team has arrived again. What are your datapoints? I will give you the datapoints to suggest different - Francis, Cooper, Congdon. Those are off the top of my head. They all played extensively as true freshman. But suddenly because Cantwell isn't playing he changed his philosophy? Give it a rest. No conspiracies here. The best 5 are playing.
 
I just think we overreact to often without giving the opponent any credit.

Yes, we have OL issues and that’s probably not going to change this year. But Pitt is know for this ****.. they deserve some credit too.

Samson wasn’t getting some 1st round at LT buzz just for *****.
