Sam Brooks

I think I found a solution that would allow for adequate depth along the front seven:

DE (8) McCloud, D. Johnson, Brooks, Harvey, Chantz, Davis, Ishmael, T. Johnson

DT (8) Ford, Silvera, Miller, Hunte, Roberts, Q. Williams, Taylor, Haye

LB (8) Jennings, Steed, Keontra, Huff, Flagg, Cave, Troutman, C. Smith
You starting McCloud ?!!!! Man please don’t let this happen.

Brooks's problem is health. He was limping all year and his game is built on speed. He got a procedure done on his foot and hopefully he is 100% for the season.

if he's 100%, then our LB play should be at least mediocre. if he isn't, then we are going to get run over just like v UNC and others.

I think we are putting every egg we have in the basket that our DL will be so stout against the run that it will mask alot of the LB issues.

DJohnson-Ford-Nesta-Harvey.. (Miller, JHH and McCloud as backups) looks like it could be extremely stout against the run on paper (coupled with the return of JSimpson who as Falcons DL coach had them only giving up 106 ypg on run defense which was #6 in the NFL last season. So the man **** sure knows how to coach his DL to stop the run).

Expect Bolden and Hall to have ridiculous tackling stats as well at seasons end. I think Jaquan Johnson had 90+ tackles his last year here..I expect Bolden or Hall to be in that range too.

This last week, i rewatched every 2020 game. Our rushing defense sucked. we allowed big runs on a regular basis against semi-quality opponents. inferior quarterbacks and backs were running at will. we were like 80 in rush defense on yards per play and like 76 on total rushing yards per game. that's atrocious and a regression. i'm hoping the D line is better with better coaches (simpson, shoop) and another year of maturity, but i don't know whether we will be stout or not.

Definitely a tweener but here's him standing next to the largest body on the team. Either he just did 100 push-ups or he's grown a bit since we saw him last.

I do 100 push ups and don’t look anything close to that.

Simpson going to fix that. Great point, though.

Brooks is going to solid at LB... Please FANS stop always wanting our player's to play other positions... Sam is a LB here, he just needs time to put on size and he has made strides this season to put on the size...
McCloud moved to DE
Keontra moved to LB
Carter moved to STRK

happens all the time

I don't think size was so much the issue as it was injuries. Seems he can't get healthy going back to HS. Eventually, the injuries catch up with you. I agree no point in moving him to DE and too early to write him off at LB but the injuries IMO hampered him more than weight. I feel like I have heard about his toe since 2019.

I'm with you in wanting to see him get a shot at LB. He was amazing against LT in the bowl game a couple years back, and that was when he was still learning to play LB. But if he falls down the depth chart at LB then we could use some help at DE. If not Brooks then Roberts perhaps.
