It's refreshing to watch these guys play. Everything is urgent, fast and physical. Bissainthe is an NFL linebacker, Thomas and Toure set the tone, Aguirre is coming on strong, Fitzgerald is a special athlete, and Poyser is throwing his body around. I expect Chase Smith, Bobby Pruitt. Dylan Day and Kellen Wiley II to keep leveling up during ACC play.

What are you guys seeing at these spots?

We have definitely upgraded in talent but I give Heather man a lot of credit instilling this mentality of playing fast, swarming, and violent at the point of attack. Even with the guys we had last year, Heatherman might have made them serviceable simply with the style of play and technique he is instilling.

The LB’s continue to be stout in run support. At times though, they’re a liability in pass coverage, particularly Toure.

Safety play has improved a ton - not only year over year - but from the ND game until now. Thomas is a stud making plays all over the field. And of course Fitzgerald is a treat to watch, crazy the kid just got on campus a few months ago.

It's just really nice that the defense is playing forward. Everything is being played in front of them, gap integrity is there, and if someone is loose, there is someone chasing or hanging off them.

My favourite thing is, generally speaking all tacklers are playing outside leverage and sending back into darkness and there are violent tacklers coming to help. Were really limiting any 2-3 yard plays that could go for 4-6 which keeps the opposing teams behind the sticks and off track.

It's been nice after, Diaz, Baker, Guidry, etc and this wasn't there.

I think Steele would have been fine with this talents just wrong place wrong time.

Im seeing less thinking and more movement. Not just one kid but all which is allowing for group tackling at its best.

Before the season, safety was a big concern. Yet, you can make an argument that Jakobe Thomas was the best defensive player on the field Saturday (it was Bain but walk with me). And Poyser had a FR with some nice down hill tackles that he missed earlier in the seasons. Then Bryce Fitzgerald with the INT and an exceptional return. This trio can mix and match depending on the opponent and I'm excited to see their growth continue.

Lbs: Wes has been really good this year and has led by example with his high motor. Toure has been reliable. I thought Popo really flashed on Saturday night. Hetherman feels more comfortable rotating players in now.

I was really proud of how discipline they were on Saturday night. Not just with the bull**** eye candy Gus throws out, but there weren't any warranted dumb penalties either by us.

Hetherman makes in game adjustments and his players listen and they do exactly what the adjustment is. It seems they love being coached up by him and this stafff.

Can't wait to see more guys get rotated in.

Every time they would try to run a reverse or misdirection, you'd see multiple white jerseys as soon as the camera panned over.

This is my initial thought as well.

But then when you think about it…what team doesn’t struggle with LBs in pass coverage.

As long as they’re not a complete sieve being targeted down after down, it’s fine. And they’re not.

Room for improvement but the have made some plays and the other guys around help a ton.

Development is what I see! Also, I think the 4th quarter is the first time this year our defense got a little tired. It’s understandable dealing with a scrambling quarterback and a fast pace offense.

Agreed and seeing Kiko start for the Jets, Toure is an NFL LB too. The scheme probably has everything to do with it as I never thought Kiko was trash… he was just asked to do unfavorable things for his skill set which made him look bad.

Toure is as advertised

The motions and eye candy gave Bama fits but didn't affect us AT ALL. Really impressive discipline while playing fast.
Agreed. The discipline while being such an aggressive and swarming defense really stands out. It’s like we have 12 guys on the field.
