Wow those numbers are horrible

I actually think it's an accurate reflection of a 6-7 team who finished 6th in the Coastal.

Except that 6-7 team also had a ****load of top NFL draftees and overall highly drafted players. The numbers look very odd. I think one reasonable argument I've heard is that it almost looks like they're cooking the books to lower expectations or that they previously cooked the books to inflate expectations. The 40 times suddenly became far, far more reasonable. Players got lighter and slower.

This football administration is simply a mess.

Ideally each players put on weight, adds strength, and gets faster - but it just doesn't work like that and never has.

Some add necessary weight and sacrifice speed as a result (Duke Johnson).

Some add "good weight" and get faster (Rashawn Scott)

It does seem like there's too much speed regression, but part of it was these weren't speed guys to begin with.

You can't "make" a guy fast. They can move their 40 0.1 secs in one way or the other, but for the most part, they're fast or they're not.

A guy coming in running in the 4.4 is going to leave running in the 4.4 range. A guy coming in running in the 4.6 is going to leave running in the 4.6 range.

Every guy that comes in running a 4.6 isn't leaving running a 4.4

i don't think that applies to the Butch era. seemed like far more guys leaving more noticeably faster then when they left. we have guys somehow losing weight and getting slower.

It's hard to get anything light and fast through such a dense cloud, c'mon guys you should know this

B*tch and complain... Rinse and repeat.... All of these times are merely placeholders as they haven't begun the offseason program. They will train for it in the offseason and then they will test... The numbers will increase across the board..

Wow. At a total loss for words.

Nope... May vs. July.

Are you saying that in 60-days; players can make appreciable gains and tilt the scales the other way?

I actually thought it was closer to when this occurred last year, like 30 days, but it's still close enough. We're not talking January or February of this year vs July/August of last year.

For some yes. Not all players work on speed during the off-season. Some spend a lot of time in the weight room getting stronger, over the next 2 months they will be doing a lot more organized workouts and you should see improvements across the board. A typical track season lasts 3 months or 90 days. Don't tell me that kids run the same speed from beginning to end.

I think the Scott Patchan pick up was great. He didn't get a lot of recognition due to injury first game of the season last year but also dominated and put up great numbers before going down. I also noticed Stacy Coley's improvement in the weight room. His numbers he put up last year before seasons start had me questioning his work ethic and how he would perform that season. We know how that went but he's been putting in the work it seems like lets see how that plays out on the field.

Walter Tucker, if I'm not mistaken wasn't he running a 4.3 something at one point?

What does Joe Yearby losing weight from what he came in at say about how he will be used this year? Or was that not what they wanted? Doesn't look as if they plan to use him as an every down back now but more of a change of pace or scat back.

Lastly, Brad Kaaya brought his weight down to what Malik Rosier came in as last year while Rosier brought his weight up to where Kaaya came in at last year. Does that say that he will be seeing a lot carries out of this new playbook they have for him to change up the pace on teams this season? Or is it a back up plan in case of a sophomore slump or lack of rushing attack?

Maybe Yearby came in "heavy" last year because he was coming off a broken leg. Either way 188 or 181 isn't big enough to carry the load. Gus is going to be poised for a big year with Joe working in about the same as last year maybe slightly more

He is right some what. All the numbers are comparing to the end of last summer to the beginning of this summer. Some gains will be made from now to the end of the summer it just depends on the player. I know my buddy at Tennessee made the switch from DB to RB and they had him putting on as much weight as possible and his 40 went from 4.43 last year to 4.54 this year. But they expected that, and now the plan is for him to cut down a little bit and hold some of the weight he put on.

Basically he went from 183 to 196 and they expect him to start the season around 190-192. So its possible some guys just did a bulking phase (kind of like body building) and now they will cut down for the season similar to what body builders do for a competition.

Hard telling with Al though. Its never good to see a corner (Tracy Howard) go from 181 to 189 or whatever it was and then get slower. Corners dont usually bulk up but its possible.

That explains why Tennessee is so chitty.

Not sure why everyone thinks we got slower this year. We lost DP4, yes he was our fastest guy but we did not lose anyone else from last year with elite speed. Duke and A. Crawford were fast but nothing special. Our team speed will be about the same as last year with the exception of PD4.

Look at the list again; the only guys with significant drops are Herb and Corn. Corn’s average of the 3 times last year was 4.46 and Herb was 4.39. I’m almost certain that both Herb and Corn will run under a 4.50 by the time July comes around. Everyone else came back at around the same speed or better. 2 of our faster players also did not test this year (Lewis & Berrios).
