In his first two seasons at Miami, Medearis totaled 20 sacks despite starting only 15 games. In a game against Texas Tech as a freshman, Medearis was credited with 5.5 sacks, 12 tackles and one quarterback pressure.

He was considered the top defensive end in the nation by College and Pro Football Weekly magazine after his sophomore year, the Hurricanes' 1991 national championship season.

He never came back...that knee injury was one of the most gruesome and catastrophic....was told he could risk amputation if he came back. He was a certain NFL top pick....

He did receive $500,000 tax free from injury insurance....a good amount of money in 1994.
