Running Backs for OSU game.. and beyond

That’s a crazy number, but this could be a low number of plays as well. Both teams take forever & a day between plays.
Oh for sure I agree

Just saying when we used a bunch of trick plays and runs with Lofton and Toney there wasn’t many plays left to only have 49 doesn’t give too many chances

Brown is averaging less than 4 YPC and we have posters actually complaining that he's not getting carries over Fletcher & Pringle?

I mean, seriously?
I mean he quite often is the short yardage back…. In terms of traits, Hes the most NFLish back. And Thats coming from someone whos high on Fletcher.

Fletcher 1
Brown should be 1B

Do you think he should be though? He missed two 3rd & 1s because he cutback instead of running to the right where the play was designed. He's averaged less than 3.6 ypc since the UF game. I'd rather hand the ball to Fletcher on any 3rd/4th and shorts.

Weird situation, since we don't win the ND game without him, and he was great in the UF game too, but he hasn't done much in the run game since then.

I think Browns job this year was to help keep Fletcher fresh for this part of the season

No real reason to give him any carries unless Fletcher needs a break

His vision needs improvement noticed that on those short yard runs

Yup, and maybe there are teams that can manage to rotate 3 RBs during competitive games, but we aren't one of those teams. See trying to get CJjr and Lyle carries last year and trying to balance Fletcher/Brown/Lyle mid season. We suck at it.

He had Dawson fuming in the SMU game

And there have been so many drives that get killed this season when trying to throw in Lyle etc . Just stick to what’s working

Fletcher should be the bellcow, Pringle should serve as the change of pace & scat back would love to incorporate him in the pass game some..Brown should only see the field if Fletcher is gassed. however against OSU we need a heavy dose of Fletch downhill....This not the game to be trying to incorporate pringle into the gameplan.

We had like 40 plays. Most games are more than double that. And mark had 200 yards. It’s not that deep. Just do what you’ve gotta do to win, if that means riding fletch for 35 carries, ride fletch.

I think the reason our normal run game was successful was due to the malicat and the threat of Toney getting the ball. So you have to run some of that early to keep the D from teeing off.
The reality is, last game was odd because offensive possessions were at a premium and it’s hard to bring in a guy like Pringle that you know isn’t there for pass protection. Dude gets mauled by blitzing DBs.
If you notice Toney is getting so much attention they had to use other guys to block on some plays such as 7 and 0. That’s because keeping Toney away from the play gives you a numbers advantage. It’s the same reason they ran the reverse to Marion.

I was screaming for Pringle until I saw him. Then it was a disjointed play and he tripped. Ok get him out! NVM, ride Fletch.

If we get into a rhythm and have some sustained success I’m sure we will see other backs. Though I’m sure the coaches know who is going to be trying to “put something on film for FA” and maybe not be a team first player. Maybe they know Brown and Lyle are headed out the door?
What I do know, is my faith in the staff has actually grown this year and after those two losses, I was pretty down on anyone not named Hetherman. So I think they will have some misdirection, I think early they need to commit some stuff to Toney for multiple reasons, and I think we will test the run game early, with quick hitter type passes.

I dont like that double RB shotgun formation all that much. Prefer not to see it that much.

Pistol, lets see more. It worked well for the run game.
I personally hate 20 and 21 personnel but last week we started going max protect because of all the confusing blitzes A&M used . Yet they still got home getting pressure . I’d much rather punish an aggressive defense by using screen game to backs , te’s ,wr’s or quick game . If u force you to start keeping 2 eligible wr’s in I’ve pretty much got you in check. Then I can drop 7 versus 3. That’s another reason I kept screaming “ run the ball”. We were allowing a smaller , quick defense to have their cake and eat it too

They’re a very aggressive defense that’s undersized . We just got way too cute early.

I agree, but in a way I kind of feel like we have to “show” that early. It sets up more options later. I could be overthinking it, but if you have a guy you’ve been scheming in you have to make them think you’re doing it again. Then it opens up something as generic a zone read to the A gap! Lol

Brown is very mediocre. Below 4 ypc behind our line and was below 5 ypc even at the FCS level. We should see a heavy dose of Fletcher with a little of Pringle. Doubt we see Brown for more than a carry or two if Fletcher really needs a breather at some point.

Fletcher will likely get the bulk to start ....I can see Pringle getting 3-4 counters as a change up... Brown should get 4-5 power runs to help wear down those big LBs....late in the fourth go with the hot hand...

If you’re running back is getting 10 yards per carry. You don’t take him out until he’s ready to come out.

I like the one two of Fletcher and Pringle. Good combination of skill sets. I don’t think Brown should play unless Fletcher is hurt and we need a short yardage guy.
