Rumph to UM

Another blah hire.

Same retards defending it.

Yep. They're actually ridiculing the guys who question the hiring of a HS coach who was renowned for winning by recruiting.

In one breath, they squawk "you have no idea if he's going to be great or not" and then in typical contradictory ****** fashion they hit us with "we know he's a major upgrade over Williams." How the fck do they know if he's an upgrade if they're telling us we have no idea how good or bad he'll be?

It's the disease of the new coaching hire. Richt could have brought in Pat Nix as OC, and they'd applaud it.

i'd chop my **** off if that happened again.

Mike Rumph was enemy number one on here, a site where people were adamant that HS coaches should be given first time gigs at UM, and where there was a specific thread suggesting him that was downvoted 20+ times.

Then he gets hired, and the same Goldenites are now loving the hire.

Lot of dudes who are followers and don't stick to their own opinions. Real estrogen style ish.
Looks like Isaiah Mackenzie is transferring from UG A to the U because of Richt and Rumph.

When I think of Mike Rumph, I think about the TD pass he gave up to Penn St to lose a game back in the late 90's. At AH he didn't do the U any favours so not a fan.

I thought Coach Richt was going to hire an experienced DB coach, but obviously, he felt that hiring Rumph as a CB coach was his best option. I hope it works out. No reason to believe otherwise. And nothing in this thread suggests other wise.

Can't he still hire an experienced DB coach??? Or have they announced that one of the other coaches is handling the safeties? Rumph is here as a CB coach only right now.

Only this fan base can get this emotionally despondant in a school hiring

A locally respected alum.
With coaching experience.
With NFL playing experience.
With previous professional connections with the head coach.
To coach a position he's intimately familiar with.

The idea that because there are whatever amount of random individual holding the same title around the country, that have little or no connection to the head coach, recruiting area, or university; it makes this a "bad hire"?

What incredible entitlement. What remarkable hyperbolic absurdity and ignorance of the industry being displayed.

It could fail, but nothing on the surface reflects inevitability of that. That's when you hope for adjustments, that even national championship winning coaches often end up making after intial hirings.

Urban retained a high school coach from tressel, in karry combs.
Local ties to Colrain cardinals..
It seems to be working good for them

A couple thoughts on this hire.

-He was one of the best players to come through here and was a great ambassador for the program while he was here
-He is inexperienced as a coach
-He hasn't done us any favors since he has been the coach at American Heritage, we haven't gotten a single player yet from his school out of the 10+ 4 and 5 star kids he has had while there
I loved him while he was a player but since he's been there American Heritage has essentially been Dwyer with Jack Daniels as head coach.

That's fantastic we haven't got a single kid since he's been there

that tells you he's super smart and didn't want his boys getting ruined by al golden

To the few trashing Mike rumph. I've actually seen him coach against my brother and family members when they were playing. He is far from a ****** coach, he actually has great attention to detail and can break something down that an opponent is doing fairly quickly. I don't think you guys realize heritage wasn't really relevant in Broward county high school football with Jon dellenbach until he got there..I should know I played in Broward county.

Another thread full of haters. You dont think a man who played at the D1 & Nfl level with the knowlegde of what it takes to be a cane is a good hire? Its as DB coach not as ******* DC. Chill out.

Not gonna lie I think it's a terrible hire. For one Rumph has set himself up for perpetual employment. The guys is unfireable. If he were to be discovered as a poor coach Richt simply can't get rid of the guy or he'd cause a local mutiny. I wasn't a huge fan of Diaz but willing to give it a shot. Now we hire a green DB coach with no college experience and that's gonna be a slam dunk?

Diaz had alleged differences with his DB coach @ UT and now we're supposed to think Rumph is just gonna sit back and mesh with Diaz philosophy? I would prefer to have gotten a DB coach that would ensure maximum cohesion on the defensive end but that's just me.

I think it's a huge risk. What if Rumph is a terrible DB coach? What ya gonna do....fire him? I think not.

I don't think Richt cares. He just fired Ice who's one of the most accomplished South Florida high school coaches around.

True but he was never part of a Richt staff. As I stated before I would rather it would have been someone familiar and in step with Diaz (ala safety hire). Im not 100% sold on the Diaz hire but don't want any excuses next year on why the defense isn't working. A cohesive staff that knows the system inside and out has no excuses. Whatever.....my excitement has taken a seat. I'll sit back and see how it turns out. Not holding my breath though.

Lets see, Lice Harris the scumbag pimp who had his son coaching his teams and blackmailed Miami into hiring him vs.

Mike Rumph, 6 year NFL vetern...former 1st round pick......young....agressive....not a pimp.

Yeah...fair comparison.

Not that what you do and don't want actually matters, does having average personnel and sweeping philosophical change qualify as an excuse?

Hiring a HS corch for a position coach at the U of M was universally recognized as a bad idea 2 weeks ago.

Now? "Great hire" "local ties" "he was a great DB here".

Nobody would've applauded a Patrick Nix hire.

Because he didn't play here.

I know this with certainty: If Rumph doesn't deliver all those studs from Heritage then Richt is a sap. Richt should have made it crystal clear that Rumph can have the CB gig if he delivers all the Heritage guys.

I don't want to hear any stupid **** about getting on them "too late". Rumph was their goddam HC and leader. He absolutely must deliver. None of this sissified "well he can't force them to come here" horse **** we've heard the last ten years or as Ice's excuse for failing to deliver local dudes.

This. Right now, the only tangible advantage to hiring Rumph is his recruiting. We have no idea if he can coach DBs but we know he knows the Heritage kids very well. He needs to deliver them now.
Richt is a total sap if he handed a quarter million to Rumph without a guarantee he was going to deliver those dudes. You aren't giving a HS coach that kind of scratch because he's a proven technical wizard.

I suspect that Richt has a bigger picture view than just delivering the currently enrolled Heritage kids. Hiring a successful former Cane who can recruit South Florida probably addresses some of his strategic goals.

Would you have sent your kids to Miami if they had better options? The program was a mess going into NSD 2014. I'd guess he wouldn't have talked his kid out of it of coming to Miami, but he certainly didn't push them there.

How is he going to send players to miami when golden only went after Sony. Golden wasn't even going after recruits at heritage.
