Rumph to UM

Someone quoted Chad Morris in this thread, I can't find it.

Chad Morris coached in HS as a HC from 1994-2009. Then he went to Tulsa.

Does anyone see a difference?

Yeah one is coordinating an entire offense. The other is coaching CBs.

That is the only thing, yup. Congrats!

I would like to add that Morris was a HC for 16 years before he went to TULSA.

Gus Malzahn went from HS to SEC OC.

I think Bishop Gorman's coach got a HEAD COACHING job at the FBS level.

Rumph has a pretty good résumé for a position coach: He played at a very high level in college, played in the NFL for 6 years, and coached a state champion at the high school level.

He's not a slam dunk hire (because of lack of experience at the college level), but nothing to get rustled over, either.

These comparisons are pretty poor.

Gus the bus was a HC coach for a long time. He was also the reason why 3-5 kids from his HS team went to Arkansas.

How long has Rumph been a coach?

Interesting hire. Not a huge fan of the move, but oh well. Let's hope Richt made the right move.

U dont even know what position he was hired as but your not a fan? GTFOH

If it was for DB....which only makes sense then I absolutely am not a fan of the move. How has hiring high school coaches worked for us in the past? It's a gamble, hope it pays off, but I would have felt more comfortable with an experienced college DB coach.

Rumph is a rising star in the profession. I don't know if you can compare him to Beard or Hurley.

With all do respect, Ice was "a rising star" as well.

No disrespect to Ice Harris he's built a monster over at Booker T. so obviously he can Coach but it's not that hard to Coach good backs. I mean he coached Duke Johnson last year and Yearby and Walton this year ..

Thomas Brown is known for being a great recruiter I expect the backs to run well with Brown or if Ice would have stayed.

The 2 areas (positions) where you can gamble on young position coaches is at WR and DB... Anyways, I rather a young upstart at those position, than some old dry coach in his 50's.

- Someone that can demonstrate what they want out of those positions is everything. We had that in Beard, but with Rumph you've got a guy still young and energetic, with more overall experience at running an entire show.

Secondly, a competent DC will be the one decide how the DB's will play, Rumph is there to drill down technique, to include re-emphasizing the importance of our DB's participating in run support, like he did during his time at Da U!!

I don't mind the move! A good DL & the right play calling will make the DB's look better anyhow!!!

My only issue is hiring a South Florida high school coach seems to get the rest of the divas down here to hold a grudge.

The comparisons would be poor if Rumph were being brought in for DC or HC. He's being brought in for CB coach.

Rumph's been a coach for 5 years, and has a state title under his built. He's qualified.

I believe 2 state titles.

Canes fans are the worst. Literally hate everything.

No, we just aren't Blind Homers after 15 years of mediocrity. Every move should and will be scrutinized.

And who are you to critique it without taking the time to see how it will work out? You don't think he's a Lil more qualified than the majority of our fan base as to making personnel decisions... perhaps you think he's interested in sabotaging himself & the fan base. That's the real reason he took this job obviously was to set us back... OH WAIT! WE HAVE NO MORE ROOM BACKWARDS TO GO! SO SIT BACK & LET THE MAN WORK INSTEAD OF COMPLAINING ABOUT EVERYTHING

So being stagnant for a longer period of time at the HS level is a plus now?

Morris went to Tulsa, the comparison is weak. It was Tulsa and he was a co-OC with Hand-job.

I'm guessing they might be glad he's out of AH, as they (fairly or not) get accused of recruiting at the private schools.

I didn't mention Morris.

BTW if Rumph coached CBs at Tulsa for a year, would that make this a slam-dunk hire?

I don't think it is a slam-dunk hire regardless.
