Rumph to UM

Interesting hire. Not a huge fan of the move, but oh well. Let's hope Richt made the right move.

U dont even know what position he was hired as but your not a fan? GTFOH

If it was for DB....which only makes sense then I absolutely am not a fan of the move. How has hiring high school coaches worked for us in the past? It's a gamble, hope it pays off, but I would have felt more comfortable with an experienced college DB coach.

Rumph is a rising star in the profession. I don't know if you can compare him to Beard or Hurley.

With all do respect, Ice was "a rising star" as well.

No ice wasn't.

Canes fans are the worst. Literally hate everything.

We desperately want our team to succeed, and to stop being the laughing stock of college football. Therefore, I think it's warranted that some of us can spark friendly discourse about issues surrounding the team. It is a message board after all.

Why do some of you "hope" he won't be hired for DB coach? I am confused

This guy played at a high level UM, and he played Corner AND Safety in the NFL for a long time. He understands the game and the nuances of playing the position as well as anyone. He can coach technique at a high level, so I am baffled why some won't like this hire.. He is exactly the kind of man you want coaching DB's.

we don't know if that will translate to major college football.

Head coach of multiple high school national championships....but ya my bad....you're right.

Has to be support staff. Would be a horrible DB hire. Sony continues to pay dividends to Rumph.

I'm not a fan of these former players jumping right to UM as position coaches. They need to cut their teeth elsewhere (like FAU or FIU) and earn their way to big time college ball. Rumph as DB coach is a weak hire and we should all be disappointed.

Who said he is the db coach?

He may be the db coach but if that was the case why didn't he say it in the tweet? Just because ice didn't do anything doesn't mean everybody else will fail. Beard wasn't bad this past season.

All I'm saying is that I would have felt more comfortable with a proven college DB coach.

All I'm saying is that we don't know what he's doing on the staff. He may be a recruiting coordinator for all we know.

Agreed, let's see what happens.

I'm told that Mike Rumph will coach cornerbacks at Miami #Canes . He was a starter on Miami's '01 team

World of difference between playing at a high level and teaching at a high level. Works both ways.

How do you know he can't teach it at a high level? That's what confuses me. That guy INTERVIEWED with the Head Coach, and you know there were defensive coaches in that interview. You ask questions in the interview to gauge competency.

Richt is not new in the game; he's been a HC for 15 years, and coaching for 25 years.

So this must mean Hartley will probably coach the safety position to go along with special teams coordinators. Also if you go by Todd Hartley recent follows Larry Scott is at the top of the list so it could be safe to assume he is back although it hasn't been announced yet

May the blood of our pass defense be on your hands.

Been a fan and season ticket holder since '83. Richt has proven that he has no problem getting rid of guys. My God, give it a rest, all you guys do is complain about the hires. Wait and see how it goes. I'm good with Rumph, if he fails, Richt will fire his butt.

Considering the emphasis that Diaz seems to put on safeties needing to process information in his system, I like that we seem to be hiring separate coaches to coach CBs and Safeties. Maybe Diaz will even be the Safeties coach and we'll hire someone else for OLB.

Not bad considering too much won't be put on Rumph's place (only in charge of CBs). Let's see what he's got

If it is as the db coach, how do you know it is a bad hire? You don't know how he would do as a coach. He might be great nobody knows.

You don't have a ST Coach only in college. They always are also position coaches. You can only have 1 Head Coach and 9 Assistants.
