Obviously, you've got to have legitimate talent in order to be an elite team, but when you have really good coaching, like at Clemson with an OL whose H.S. ratings were below last year's UM unit. Or with Rumph and Banda, then you can get a unit to perform at a high level without feeling hampered because you/we didn't get a 5 star at each position.

I know he's taken it on the chin for recruiting, but Rumph's units are well trained and continue to perform at a high level. Hopefully, the rest of this new coaching staff has similar results, but also recruit well.

Well he has really improved on the recruiting front as witnessed by signing Christian away from Saban & Malzahn. I don’t feel his coaching or teaching acumen has ever been an issue.

I like Rumph and think keeping him has been the right call, but let's not use 1 data point (especially when there were rumors that Bama didn't have a spot for him) to say that Rumph has really improved in recruiting. Not saying that he has or hasn't, just that I don't think we have seen enough to say one way or the other.

Well it's not like we are going to have someone come out directly say that happened but fine let's give him credit for Williams. I am cautiously optimistic that his recruiting is improving but it's still one recruit; I dont think it is fair to say that any coach is a good or bad recruiter based on one kid.

And to be clear, I think he is a great coach and the results on the field have certainly shown it; I am just saying let's not crown him due to one recruit.

Here's the thing, if we can rack up a bare minimum 10 wins, and hopefully, 11 or more, then our success will recruit enough talent for Rumph to turn into lock down corners. He's been building a track record of development (not unlike coach Kul with DE's) and that track record, coupled with a lot of wins and Diaz's force of personality, will net us enough talent to be good for as long as we can keep him.

Not enough good things I could say about him. Awesome guy and fantastic at developing talent, what he did with Colbert and Mike Jack alone was incredible.

Agreed !

I would add Corn Elder to that list as well. It seemed to me that Elder made a nice upward jump in his last season here. I still remember that one diving interception where he was practically parallel to the ground.

The best position coach we have on staff.

Watch what he does with Blades & Ivey this year, those boys are going to be locking sh*t down by mid way through the season.

People forget that up until the ACCCG in 2017 Malek Young & Mike Jack were arguably the best CB tandem in the ACC & were the highest graded by PFF.

Bandy, Ivey, Blades, Williams, Bethel & Couch is the best CB group we've had since he's been here.

I believe it, also believe that in the end it would not surprise me if they have better if not the same type of careers as those other south Florida DBs that went elsewhere

Unfortunately a lot of people on this sight wanted to can him for missing on Surtain and Campbell. But his units on field play cannot be denied.

Rumphs obviously has been good at evaluating potential when recruiting. . So he has not signed the highest rated recruits. . Being able to evaluated potential that he can coach up pretty important . Think he has recruited better than people give him credit for w)hen that is considered.
