Rumph and what good coaching does for you

Well he has really improved on the recruiting front as witnessed by signing Christian away from Saban & Malzahn. I don’t feel his coaching or teaching acumen has ever been an issue.

To be fair, one instance does not make a trend. That said, yes, he's an excellent Xs and Os coach. And if somehow the Williams' signing can help him get some Mojo on the recruiting trail, he will be a complete stud coach.

I've always said that even if you miss the elite S. Florida DBs, the guys behind them are generally pretty **** good. But if Rumph starts getting the elite ones, look out!

Corn Elder looked like a completely different player in just 1 year under Rumph.

Colbert was completely a forgot guy at Safety while @Texas. Rumph got him drafted, in just one year!

Mike Jackson was completely transformed under Rumph and became one of the top CB's in the conference.

Young was on his way to being one of the best in the country under Rumph.

The dude is a phenomenal coach but our fans continue to s'hit on him because we didn't land Campbell and Surtain. F'uck that s'hit! The guy is more Cane than any one of us. Give the man the respect that he has earned and truly deserve!

When it happens it’s good night Irene🙌🏽

I like Rumph and think keeping him has been the right call, but let's not use 1 data point (especially when there were rumors that Bama didn't have a spot for him) to say that Rumph has really improved in recruiting. Not saying that he has or hasn't, just that I don't think we have seen enough to say one way or the other.

Totally respect what your point is here but really feel he’s improved🙌🏽

A lot of guys have excelled and will continue to under Rumph. I pointed out those two specifically because of how much they struggled relative to everyone else and then how much they improved

Obviously, one of your clients (congrats) was coached by Rumph. Dean seems to have had a lot of success so far with the Browns. Is that using the techniques Rumph taught him or are they asking him to change things up?

Coaching was a question, when he started, and I think that’s been answered. Recruiting was the bigger issue, and that’s getting better. He also recognized it himself that it was an issue, and got some help.

Not enough good things I could say about him. Awesome guy and fantastic at developing talent, what he did with Colbert and Mike Jack alone was incredible.

Good to hear first hand perspective. So why can’t kids see that he is recruiting? If I am a recruit I am going for the coach that can develop me. Kids don’t seem to care much about that.

Sounds like he went to recruiters anonymous or something.

Why is that when any coach on our staff not named Rumph misses out on a star recruit we blame the bagman, but when Rumph misses out on a recruit its because he's a lousy recruiter?
What people forget just think about it, each of these schools can field the necessary athletes at most of the positions largely in their surrounding areas however when it comes mainly to dbs they prefer south Florida guys. These schools are sending their best recruiters down here(Zach smith former osu coach even verified that in a podcast) to recruit that position of which most staffs covet. Not an easy position to recruit.

Why does this always get regurgitated? Even "if" Bama didn't want him at the end, Rumph still straight up beat LSU for a CB. That's a step in the right direction.

Seems like every time we beat Bama for a kid these Bama but huggers claim it's because Bama didn't have room. It's crazy how some of our fans slurp other programs so much and at the same time never give Miami credit.

What he really needs is 1 guy to point to. If Bandy can get drafted early that's what a lot of these kids look at. Need a first round pick at the position and it's a big selling point even if they don't pan out in the league (see: Gators, Florida)

Some of ya'll are judging a position coach by effect of a defensive scheme - for both the good and the bad. Rumph isn't choosing coverages on his own for his unit. Not saying anything positive or negative about Rumph. Only that a position coach's job is technical and motivational in nature. Some of the comments about pass defense ratings and such are tied to a broader scheme, playcalls and the other defensive units.

Difficult for anyone on a message board to fairly judge a position coach outside of the very obvious technical breakdowns (for example, if Corners struggled with press, how they play the ball in the air, or how they flip their hips when initially beat) or lapses in focus.

To be fair, I think its more that he coached at a extremely talented high school prior and had some direct ties to 5 star players since optimist at position of need. He couldnt close the deal, maybe it isnt his strength, maybe its the product, who knows. But those were probably the main gripes.
