Rumours about Chip Kelly to UF

Mark Richt is going to slam shut the door to the State of Miami. Kelly won’t be Be able to do anything.

You know a simple way to destroy a chip Kelly offense? Same way teams stop us when we are rolling - fall down and fake an injury. As soon as you slow down the fast break, everything falls apart. If you watched his losses at Oregon (I watched virtually every ducks game he coached) you could pretty much tell by the end of the first quarter that it was going to be an L. Offense looked clunky and defenses were destroying the timing. Since the whole scheme is based on finesse and rhythm, there was no way to recover. Honestly, you guys are falling in love with Kelly acting as the OC from 6 years ago. He utterly failed at all the other aspects of head coaching, from hiring assistants to the #1 thing - recruiting. This isn't conjecture - he literally stated he hates recruiting as he bolted for the NFL. That permanently moved him into my "do not hire" category because the lifeblood of Miami is recruiting. He mostly recruited California while at Oregon, it was a pretty simple thing to take the kids up to Eugene and have them ooh and ahh over the ps3s in their lockers. He will be trying to recruit SFL kids that will have 100 offers. You think UF can offer these kids something that Bama, Auburn, or UGA can't? And when he sends his assistants to seal the deal (because he hates doing it himself), how do you think that stacks up when Richt, Saban, or Dabo are sitting there with the parents? Seriously, if you know anything about college football and know the scuttlebutt about Kelly, you know this a "**** name" hire that will almost certainly be a total disaster.

Since there are a lot of people trying to downplay what a big time hire Kelly would be, let's hear who you think would be a better coach for them.

I still remember debating with many a fan of ours when Meyer and Shannon were hired. People tried downplaying Meyer, I nailed it.

McToof, I thought he would be alright, just not a Saban killer. I haven't seen a Saban killer, but Kelly has the best chance of anyone I can think of.

His offense, like some other posters, with Florida talent would be a nightmare. He never even killed it in recruiting and had basically no local talent base to work with but still was killing it with leftovers. Problem solved in this state.

I would much rather they get a craptastic coach and we keep everyone home. He wouldn't dominate recruiting, but this state would be a battle for years to come.

Edit: Those saying how to beat his offense, you think he hasn't learned a thing or two since he was out of college? Every coach continues to learn and you see that with RICHT here. Dumb argument.

Kelly's overrated.

he was handed the keys to a Ferrari and kept driving until he ran into the ncaa highway patrol. Lulz.

They can hire Kelly, and I do think it would be a good hire, but Richt >> Kelly all day

hates recruiting, hates boosters, plays no defense, offense predicated off space in a conference based on great defense. GL

Kelly is a great hire and anyone who says otherwise is lying to themselves.

However, the only true Saban killer is a good Miami team.

Dan Mullen. I’m 95% sure.

Only if Mullen turns them down will he not be their next HC.

Looking at the entirety of the situation, Florida’s history, current personalities involved, and the fact that they are on the highest level of risk aversion mode having a relatively new AD with all kinds of eyes on him, including Foley who’s still hanging around, that’s my prediction. I’m feeling pretty confident about it.

Remember they’re currently very risk-averse.

i stay up here in gaysville his wife doesnt want him to leave, says she really hates gator fans!

May be true or not.

But I seriously doubt that’s going to stop him with the right kind of offer.

I’m still sticking to my prediction. Makes the most sense to me when I look at the entire picture.

Pretty expensive proposition for whatever they settle with McEltooth on, Mullen's $12.5 million dollar buyout (allegedly from brand new contract), and Mullen plus top notch staff moving forward. Add to it, there is allegedly not a whole lot of love lost between Mullen and MSU's ex-AD.

All can be overcome and negotiated, but a lot to get done.

1) We know for a fact, that Kelly HATES recruiting
2) We know the kids that Florida is recruiting likely have offers to go anywhere in the country
3) From a distance perspective, there is not much drive time between UGA, UF, Auburn, Clemson, and Bama.
4) There is NOTHING that those other schools can't offer that UF can (as opposed to Oregon, which had by far, the best facilities on the west coast)
5) UGA, Clemson, Miami, and Bama have HEAD COACHES who are excellent recruiters; Kelly sending his lackeys to convince a kid to play for him aren't going to have a prayer against Richt or Saban.
6) The hometown team (Miami) in the SFL area that all these schools are going to try and compete against happens to currently be the best team in the country, is the hottest name in college football, is the "it" school in terms of coolness, and has the best recruiter in the country.
7) Kelly had to suck up to precisely one donor at Oregon- Phil Knight. At UF, he has to make appearances with boosters and have a dog and pony show, which he also absolutely hates
8) He got caught doing at Oregon almost exactly what Pitino did at UL. He has a "show-cause" on his resume. He is dirty- UF knows it, and the NCAA knows it. Taking a risk hiring him- if he or his bagman gets caught again, UF is going to get destroyed by the NCAA because this money-funneling scheme puts their whole shamateur student athlete model at risk. You think the NCAA wants the FBI to start looking into football? They'd be better off hiring Art Briles since the NCAA doesn't give a **** about rape or pedophilia, but will crush anyone who plays with their money.

So I guess all those reasons mean I'm lying to myself. Oh, and if you want to see what he actually said about recruiting:
1. There are probably certain aspects of the college game that Kelly misses now that he’s 11 games into his NFL career. But recruiting is not one of them.

Kelly was asked about how he, personally, is holding up going into the bye. And he made it clear that he prefers the NFL calendar to the college calendar.

“My schedule, the day the season was over, was a lot worse than my schedule here because you’re planes, trains and automobiles recruiting from Sunday night until Friday afternoon and hustling back and practicing, getting a practice in Friday afternoon, practice Saturday, practice Sunday, get back on a plane and fly around the country chasing down recruits,” he said.

“Maybe a misconception is when you’re a college coach and the last game is done and then the bowl game comes, you don’t have a month off. I would argue my schedule was more hectic from a recruiting standpoint than it was here. So I’m looking forward to being in the office every day and watching tape. That is the fun part of our job.”

Kelly is all football all the time. He likes to design offense, evaluate players, game-plan, watch tape and spend time brainstorming with his staff. Putting on a salesman hat and trying to convince 17- and 18-year-olds to play for him was a necessary part of his job at Oregon, but something he’s happy to leave behind.

A lot of denial in this thread. This guy barely lost at Oregon and made them household names. It crumbled after he left there. A speed based offense in Florida could kill it, I've been waiting to see what an offense like this can do with Florida kids. Things are about to get pretty competitive in Florida now. Reminds me of the days of Bobby, Spurrier and Butch. Who ruled the state then?

Wtf are you talking about? The only people in denial are the Kelly **** slobberers. everyone knew about Oregon, they went 12-1 a year or two before he even got there ffs. I know it must hurt to acknowledge this but kelly didn't invent offensive football.

So everyone who thinks Kelly is a good coach is a **** slobber? He was 46-7 at Oregon. He had less losses in 4 years than Bellotti had in his last two years in Oregon; and the program went to **** after he left. He was a forward thinker and innovator to the highest degree. To say the guy is a great coach isn't saying that Miami's ****ed and that we should all hide. But it would be a **** good hire and 100% worth the risk. And Oregon lost 1 game about a decade before Kelly got there, and they were hardly a household name. Albeit Nike helped that, but winning at a high level each year Kelly was there did more than anything.

The program went to ****e after he left? HE GOT THEM IN TROUBLE WITH THE NCAA. In only 4 years.

You should sell used cars. "Hey, this car has a BRAND NEW PAINT JOB!" Yeah, but wasn't it just damaged in a major accident? "Yeah, but it's a BRAND NEW PAINT JOB!"

People shouldn't talk while they have Chip Kelly's **** in their mouths...

The Homers in full force here. 1st arguing about attendance of ND fans with zero basis when proven wrong. Now acting like this entire board would’ve chosen Richt over Kelly is another lie. A HUGE lie. I’m thrilled with Richt. I’m a life long legacy UM fan plus high level donor, but ya’ll are on thick blinders. Richt needs to capitalize now with this class and put up the fence. Its a year early with no time to spare. Don’t kid yourselves. This year is possibly the most special season in UM history. There’s no room to give UF an inch. Take any recruit of theirs now with no mercy. It’s time to put daggers in FSU and UF. Barnes, Louis, Joyner and whoever else the staff wants should go no holds. We
Are the hottest team in all of football. Richt needs to take advantage of it PERIOD

There is PLENTY of Gayturd booster money available for whatever decision is made as far as McElwain's replacement. Money has never been an issue for the turds.

Yeah, right. Because the ONLY thing that matters is scholarship losses. How many did UM lose again?

The reality is that Oregon was under investigation and accepted sanctions. That, right there, is when you begin to have a recruiting drop-off, as many recruits don't want to be involved with a school under NCAA investigation.

And Kelly got a SHOW-CAUSE after only 4 years at Oregon. So, what, are you trying to argue that all of his wins would have kept him from being fired for cause?

Please, tell me about the long history of football head coaches who got a show-cause from the NCAA after only 4 years on the job. Not only does Chip Kelly cheat, but he doesn't even hide it well enough to be very good at it.

What are you saying about ND attendance?

The last coach we hired with no ties to Florida was al golden. This is hiring the modern day mike leach. Florida athletes are not going to want to run or play on this complex offense that doesn’t set you up for the nfl. This style of play throws natural athletes off. Chip kelly wil be fighting UCf USF fau and fiu for our leftovers on the recruiting trail. I’ve expressed my opinion in multiple threads this is a home run hire for any team in the SEC or in the state of Florida.

Some of you idiots didn’t want Richt either. Litterly the best alumni coach for the university of Miami. GTFOH think chip kelly who has failed at almost every job and is still collecting checks from the 49ers and eagles. If Florida guarantees this guys contract he got everything he wanted and results don’t matter anymore. Let’s hope for another big buyout.
