Rumor

I’m not trying to be funny or anything but what dc would he or you hire? Manny is still going to want to run his gimmick defense. Also I’m in no way defending baker.
You say that but I think Manny is doing what we all hated that he had to do when we hired him - learning on the job. Didn't he just have an interview where he came clean about not knowing what he didn't know about being a HC vs DC?

He learned about offense the hard way with Enos and hopefully be continues to grow and mature as a HC this season to realize he needs to make these changes if he wants the Miami team he goes on about.

Someone posted in the game thread “where has this defense been for the previous 3 quarters?”

That would explain it.
Yeah, that was me.

Diaz was more than once really ****ed with his defense. Sometimes you could see him really shouting, getting upset, trying to get the energy up. It really was noticeable. Phillips was ****ed after a penalty, screaming towards the sideline and a drive later, didnt even get excited after a good play. There was something up.

There was even a play on special teams, where an assistant came over and patted someone on the helmet after a block in the back. Diaz came over afterwards and he must have said something cause the player was visibly trying to make a case that he didnt do anything.

And Diaz always had a playsheet with him. You almost have to assume that he took over because NC State generated 6 (!!!) yards of offense in the 4th quarter after tearing us apart for seven yards per play thru three quarters. You suddenly saw well timed blitzes, good pressure with the front four, defense being really compact and close to the receivers downfield. It looked like the change we made when Diaz took over from Baker starting with the Virginia game.

Diaz might finally start to see the light here.

Discussion for the offseason at this point, but I mean how can anyone justify keeping this defensive staff.

What value do any of them bring? Bunch of bums
I think Banda has more then proved himself on the recruiting trail. Stroud doin good for us well.

We can process the rest

This wouldn’t surprise me, there was a shot midway during the game where Manny had a the call sheet in his hands.

If manny Diaz makes that much of a difference he would be stupid not to call plays the rest of the season. As a leader you do what is best for your team and if baker is not cutting it take over and have homie as another set of eyes in the booth.

If there’s one thing Manny has been willing to do, it’s cutting and running when necessary specifically with his staff.

I’ve been willing to give the D the benefit of the doubt after limiting 4 out of 6 teams to under 20 points. However, there were red flags and they all showed up last night.

This is not the same pass rush we’re used to. Our DBs still look suspect. Our LBs plod around and miss tackles too often. If we win out, does Manny address this in the off-season? Or does he recognize the incompetence and make cut throat decisions.

We just let NC State score one point less than Clemson. Something is off.

This below.....idk who were calling the plays etc, but the facts don't lie. 4th qtr we saw our defense. But in the end, we're 6-1 and on to VaTech....#BeatVaTech

Manny's D (when he ran it under Richt) is pretty **** good overall. No not elite but good enough for 10 wins. But unfortunately for whatever reason its much ****tier under Baker. Not sure why its hard to copy and call plays but Baker just doesnt have it. Obviously over his head and belongs at a G5 program.

Now will Manny fire Baker? Nah. Weak leaders hire "Yes" men for a reason which is all Diaz wants for the D.

I think Rumph is done though barring a ACC ship or 10/11 win season though.

I disagree, he hired people that he felt he needed to, in order to support what he wanted to do and also have a strong staff. He just failed to do better. Rumph was supposed to be the DB guy while Banda was supposed to help teach the scheme. He hired Stroud, and wouldve kept Simpson if he could've. Neither are "yes men". He also hired Baker because he knows the defense and trusted him. If he wanted a "yes man" he would've kept Banda/Pakte at DC and hired a LB coach.

The kick return sucked, but overall, I don’t think Patke has done a terrible job with the special teams unit.
Halls muffed punt then inexcusable retreat at a critical time. 3 kick return penalties. The ineptitude last year in the kicking game. All this points to Patke being useless. We lack situational awareness and execute poorly in most scenarios.

you just named 3 key coaches on the defense (flake, patke, bartender) who are yes men - they are basically the head of the defense. Not sure what your point is.

I don’t really blame him for the muffed punt and then Hall’s decision to run backwards. He keeps throwing new people back there and they are all muffing punts and making stupid decisions.

As far as the penalties are concerned, those are on him, but this was the first game where I noticed it being an isssue.

Come on man. At what point does player responsibility count for something?
