I'll gladly say that I didn't expect him to do as well as he did.

When he was raising his arms up and down at the FSU fans on that last drive to score the game winning touchdown... I thought to myself, "This guy gives ZERO ***** about the pressure. He's TELLING them to bring it."

And he put the knife in their guts in dramatic fashion.

He still drives me crazy with things that he does, but there is NO doubt he's the guy at Miami right now.

Raise your hand if before the season began you thought University of Miami quarterback Malik Rosier would be a candidate for the Maxwell Award — a coveted prize that has gone to “the outstanding collegiate football player in America’’ since 1937.

Probably not many hands up — but few are doubting Rosier now.

The redshirt junior quarterback was one of four players on Wednesday added to the Maxwell Award watch list. The original list, according to the Maxwell Football Club, was based on the performances of players during the 2016 season.

Louisville quarterback Lamar Jackson won the Maxwell in 2016.

Named the UM starter this season, Rosier is the first UM quarterback to start his career 7-0 since Brock Berlin did it in 2003. Though the No. 8 Canes are 6-0 this season, Rosier had one start in 2015 when former quarterback Brad Kaaya had a concussion.

Rosier is coming off a career-high 344-yard performance against Syracuse. He has led game-winning or -saving drives late during the past three victories against Florida State, Georgia Tech and Syracuse.

“I’ll just say this about Malik,’’ UM coach Mark Richt, a quarterbacks guru, said Wednesday before the Maxwell Award news was released, “Malik has for me, from the very first day I started working with him...’’ The coach paused. “What he’s doing right now is pretty darned good.”

Rosier is also a threat on the ground and ranks third in the Atlantic Coast Conference in total offense, with an average of 317.7 yards a game. He is completing 59.3 percent of his passes and has thrown for 1,715 yards and 14 touchdowns, with three interceptions.

“These guys keep fighting,’’ Rosier said Saturday after UM’s 27-19 victory over the Orange, deflecting the attention off himself.

Rosier was recently added to the watch list for the Manning Award, which goes to the nation’s top quarterback.

That's insane. Seriously, let this sink in - Malik Freakin' Rosier is a Maxwell/Manning award candidate. What a testament to this young man's work ethic and drive.

obviously talent as well, glad this stff could bring it out of him. I for one just waited for the competition to play out, trusted the staff and would pull for whoever the quarterback was. Try not to pre-judge as in JAG.

The expectations of him sure have evolved from most of us just wanting him to be a game manager to most of us now thinking that he can WIN games for us. Look, we'd all love more complete games out of the offense as a whole but it sure as **** is nice to know that we also have a kid taking snaps that isn't afraid of the big moments.

Heck, the most impressive thing is that he has won the biggest games he has been in and the team has NOT played complete games. He's doing it with stars out or dropping balls, star RB down for the count, patched together Oline, and unknowns making the big plays. All tat and it is mostly his passing getting it done, not his feet. We are nowhere near our ceiling. Win and advance.

He has never lost in his college career, says a lot for him.

Agreed. His "streakiness" really hasn't even been the issue to the offense not always hitting all cylinders throughout the entire game. That alone is reassuring because I have faith that Richards isn't going to drop 26 passes in one outing again, etc. As you mentioned too about his passing getting it done, I REALLY love that the kid is utilizing his mobility when necessary but never relying on it. There's no way the Vag Tech or Notre Dame DC's can possibly think they're going to ever make him give up early on a play and take off needlessly- which is one of the greatest qualities (patience) you can have in a mobile QB.

His streakiness has been a problem but not last game. After the 1st quarter vs duke, the 1st half vs fsu, 1st half vs gt are all games he showed that streaky play. He is completing 55% of his passes in acc play and its mainly from those stretches of bad play.

If he can play like he did last week consistently and the defense start stopping the run better then this team could possibly win out.

True and fair but at minimum his streakiness is never costing us tds (in the form of turnovers) let alone costing us games. Also, imagine his stat line with a healthy and sure-handed Richards all year- something I think we'll see again very soon.

The Rosier haters are AWFULLY quiet lately.

Sadly, I'm sure a couple of them are skulking around in the weeds hoping for a "See, I told you he sucks" moment.

Next time any of you guys think the gurus really know a goddamned thing, just remember how badly they buried Malik. They mostly know what they're told. Remember that some dudes rise to the occasion, and you can't quantify that until the band starts playing.

Flash back to the Puke game in 2015, and look at what Malik did with no prep with a fired corching staff "leading" the team against a favored opponent on the road. All the buzzards were claiming for multifold reasons that that performance was meaningless while they were killing Malik prior to this season starting. Looks instead like that performance was a precursor of what a gamer can do when the band is playing.

Yeah that’s the sad part. I’m sure some will come around but others will dig their heels in even further once a bad performance pops up (or 2) and then like you said, come out from the weeds. Those are miserable SOBs that put their ego and pride over this team/School. Sad!

One of them a few posts above you!

**** of an accomplishment considering we had serious questions about the position, no matter who got the nod.

I also don't know that I would label him streaky either. We've had a lot of wide receivers out week to week. It takes time for any QB to really get on the same page when they're a newly named started. Those two things combined along with inconsistent hands have certainly contributed to his completion percentage. No matter how you see it, he's been better than alright by me.

Our WRs dropped some very catchable balls to, clean that up and his numbers will continue to blossom

Alot of people built a false narrative about the guy before a down was played. I'm shocked at how often he makes the right decision. People can say what they want but FSU still has their Defense and am highly impressed with the fact that when we are not playing well he doesn't make bad decisions and that first half v FSU was as bad as we played in a long while. And two come back with a 2nd half of almost 300 yards was impressive. And we all know about that last drive.

He’s getting better each week with last week being the best game of his career statistically (would have been INSANE without the drops). Kid is a GAMER.

I'm biased but this is the best story in cfb. We are finally too at a point in the Rosier and Richt relationship, where trust has been earned and given . Almost dumbfounding and scary to say that the best is yet to come. This was a pairing that is made by fate, given his background and the circumstances Malik Rosier may end up being Mark Richt's favorite football player. Every week you see one of those Ah hah moments where CMR realizes Oh he can do this.If we are undefeated come December, bet the house on Rosier in the ACCG, Richt will.

He has had bad performances already. That was some of the worst qb play i ever seen in the 1st half vs fsu. I didnt think he was good enough but he has been solid. I just want this **** team to win and i didnt think rosier was the guy but he has been winning.
