Room for growth on offense

Our defense was physically exhausted in the fourth quarter against FSU. Contrary to popular belief, the best way to rest your defense and take time off the clock is not to run the ball into 9 man fronts for no gain over and over. It’s to actually convert 1st downs. You’ll take more time off the clock and rest your defense more if you stay aggressive and throw on early downs, it’s much easier to convert than running it for no gain on first and second down and trying to convert third and long.

Not overly concerned with the numbers. I think getting into the 20's for all of the major categories should be enough. I don't expect us to excel in any particular category, as we'll have to continue to win multiple ways based on matchups.

The only real concern I have is the lack of confidence in Carson I have & it would seem is shared by our staff at times. I had my criticism of Cam last year but aside from those dumbass back across the field passes, once he let it rip, I had all the confidence in the world he knew where he was going & the ball would be on point. Beck just seems uncertain at times & the offense feels clunky largely because of it. After the 1st 2 tds against fsu I felt like I started to see a different QB than I had all season. The 1st Drive of the 4th qtr brought the uncertainty back.

Those in thread who brought up his possible incompatibility with certain aspects of the offense have probably answered the "why" of my concern. If that's an issue, he needs to speak up. If he does, they need to listen. Don't think wholesale changes are needed but whatever can get him comfortable is necessary.

I’m confused by some of the responses in this thread

So we didn’t run the ball effectively at the end of the game to put it away ok fine

But Beck threw 4 TDs and had more TDs than incompletions when we were up 28-3

Why are we saying that we haven’t seen the pass game take over or open up when we quite literally just did it extremely effectively against FSU?

We didn’t rely on “grinding out” a **** thing against FSU

Or maybe I’m just misunderstanding some of this

Stats look a lot different with a decent D, not having to score 45 to win, and going into shells/poor performance/penalties.

It'll work itself out. Alot of meat on the bone tho

Our numbers are completely misleading. No one has played against 4 competitive teams like we have. If we substituted out Notre Dame and Florida for 2 random teams our numbers would look dramatically different.

A certain faction of this board calling out the offense for being too reliant on explosive plays, meanwhile another portion criticizing for being too bland and conservative. The truth is probably in the middle, and I do think the schedule to start might be skewing people’s perspective negatively a bit
