Room for growth on offense

He's not Ward, but he has a better deep ball and he's more willing to throw to his checkdown options.

I think we couldnt hit deep ball last year because we didnt have guys to do it.. Restrepo ran 4.9 and George ran wat 4.6? We not scaring nobody lol.. We were ELITE at intermediate and over 10 yards tho.. I dont think that is up for debate..

I think Ward is the better QB of the two, I'm just pointing out what Beck does better.

4.6 is plenty fast enough in College to get behind a defence.

I’ve been watching old tape. Specifically when we “throttled down” on offense. I can tell you that so far, our off tackle power, especially out of 21, is by far our most dynamic running set. We will never quit duo though. Brockermeyer is not doing well enough 1v1 to depend on it long term. And honestly we get beat across our faces a lot. Drop of in TE blocking is apparent on wham, which we run like 50% of the time. We need to get to the edge more. We maul people when our OL is moving. I would die to see a true outside zone
Yes! Fletcher/Brown best lead blockers we have on the team too. I do think FSU smelled a rat when we ran off tackle power out of 21 for a second time with Coop at LG in the 4th. Not sure Dawson and Coach give a **** if the other team knows Coop and Bell are pulling before the play starts though.

Comparing last & this year’s offensive numbers is apples & oranges. Last year we had to scramble like **** & chase points to hold a lead or get back in the game. The defense forced the offense to be more aggressive & wide open, Cam extending plays, etc. Now, we have a solid defense & offense can play to the defense - slow the pace, drive the ball methodically down the field, run the clock & physically dominate both sides of the ball. Last year may have been more excited, but you have a chance to win championships the way we’re playing.

Y’all know where I stand on this. Without a different approach that relies less on ‘grinding it out’ and ‘complementary football for our so far stout defense,’ we’re likely to end up in a scenario we’ve not yet shown we can dig ourselves out of…

…Beck is not (and will never provide the dynamic nature of) Cam Ward, but he’s a 4M dollar QB who’s the same age and experience as some current NFL QBs. Let him shoulder more of the overall load. If he breaks, then so be it. If he elevates, then he have a real shot at something many didn’t even think was possible for this program.

Using the ‘don’t want to do anything stupid’ errs on the wrong side for me. But, if that’s what they decide, I pray it magically defies probabilities.

We have the horses. Let them freely run and see what happens.
Agree with this. I’m also happy we are r playing our best ball yet and that we are 5-0 with room for improvement. I’m hopeful we will let it rip more in ACC play.

Since this will be our last bye week of the season, and there is a lot of season left, we need to blow some teams out so starters can get a rest.
Yup, we have to put teams sea y and let Emory and company come in and mop it up

One more TD against FSU and we get to see a great Emory comeback taking snaps after snapping his arm willing his team for a win

I think you're going to see some numbers from Beck and the offense in ACC play. It will be similar to the FSU blueprint. ACC teams can't match up to our running game physically so they will need to sell out. That creates opportunities down the field.

TEs blocking in the run game has been atrocious. 1, I don’t really expect most TEs to be able to effectively block a DE which they r tasked with that a lot in this offense and get wrecked. Being set up for failure. I do expect them to be able to win their matchup against a LB, they lose that as well. Besides them not being effective in the passing game, they aren’t effective blocking this season either.

I'd like to see them use Loftin or Schott like they did Davenport, where they'd run play-action with him running down the seam.

1. We have played 3 of the toughest defenses we will face including cfp.
2. We played in the noisiest environments for 4 of the games. As much as we would benefit from crazy crowds, Miami fans aren’t showing up for UL like they did for UF/ND.
3. Rain has been a major factor.
4. Beck’s timing will only improve over the season due to missing spring. His confidence in his arm will also improve.
5. Freshmen are still adjusting. Transfers are still learning the O. This means we see more wrinkles as the season progresses.
6. The back 6 aren’t as talented as fsu, UF, nd. I do expect some to put pressure on our defense or offense but not the team.

The one question, has Mario and Dawson learned anything from taking the foot off the gas vs nd, uf, fsu? Sure they can point to lack of execution so did they learn anything from it that helps the team execute better when they go conservative?

The second question, can we stay healthy and to me that means more blowouts, more reps for the 2/3s.

Lastly, we have a handful of kids that have CFP experience. Does the team have the dna to win it all or do we tighten up on the biggest stage.

Great deep ball in perfect weather conditions, outside of the FSU game I dont remember many accurate deep balls this year.

I think it’s silly to just look at statistics and draw any complete conclusions about this offense…some context is necessary. Last year, we went into every game knowing we had to drop 35+ points in order to win because the defense was so horrendously bad. This year, we have an elite defense we can lean on, the running game has been better. We may not be nearly as explosive as we were last year, but we’re a much better team, a more complete team.
