Roman - Bama Film Review

Maybe if we slowed down just a bit they could see where the defenders are coming from and set the protection. Kind of how Alabama does. Maybe get to the line fast but vary the speed in which we snap the ball.
Yea that hurry up **** don't work against bama unless u have similar talent.

We have a history of making backup QB’s look like the next great coming. Imagine a 5 star like him. Let’s pump the breaks on the best they ever had after playing us.

That’s been disproven many times on this board but you do you. We’ll see where he stands at the end of the year. My money is on him having a lot more games or better than he did Saturday.

I would also look at the box score for our game against Clemson last year.
There are two other plays I’m also curious about. Early in the game looked like a no call face mask as King was stepping up in the pocket.

INT, looked like the LB popped the receiver high. Commentator mentioned targeting, then realized it was their stud LB poster boy for conversation and never showed it up close.

Again - perhaps not “game changers” but things Miami can’t overcome in such a game.

Spilled milk but our DE was held bad on this play.
We have a better chance of beating Bama before the ACC refs call a holding call on an opposing offense when we're playing in an important game. McCloud was being blantantly held in the end zone on their long TD pass. Should have been called a safety if we were dealing with fair and balanced officiating. But we're not and have been dealing with this ACC officiating nonsense for as long as I can remember.

Go Canes!!!

This play is embarrassing for two reasons.

1. Why are you playing Cover-1 and not sending pressure? That makes no sense. A double A-gap pressure would've been nice here. Make him get the ball out. This route would've never had time to bust open.

2. Why is Gurvan Hall on the boundary hash instead of MOF?
If Hall is aligned at MOF then he can prevent this touchdown.

SMH
As a safety, rule #1 never let anything get behind you. If he shows that alignment then at the snap adjust to the middle of the field he has a chance at defending both sidelines. IDK why nothing is ever disguised in the secondary to confuse the QB. just telling the quarterback exactly what your doing before the ball is snap is taking away any challenge of confusing him

The facemask, which is called 99 times out of 100, was on a 3rd down that would’ve extended the drive and given us a 1st down on the 40 yard line. Absolutely ridiculous that wasn’t called and wasn’t even mentioned on the broadcast either.

This board gets a lot of **** wrong. A lot. That’s great thing about film, it’s all there.

Exactly what I saw. These things add up when you play a really tough squad…

Dude on Twitter is breaking down film and it's giving me a new perspective. While our performance wasn't the best, there were plays to be made.

If Scaife can hold his block for one more second.

I saw this live too and almost threw up. The staff doesn’t deserve a pass, we got beat by their entire organization from top to bottom, but this is what a lot of people are talking about when they say it’s Jimmy’s and Joe’s >> X’s and O’s. That was a great call against the perfect defense. Great route by Harley against the perfect matchup you want. King is 100% going there with the ball. Will it be a TD? Maybe, maybe not but he’s hitting that one for a really big gain way more often than not. But what happens? Their dude on the edge is a lot better than ours. Play is toast, immediately, it’s a turnover and I thought our QB was dead again. All the best coaching in the world can’t make this right. That’s all recruiting better players.

The guy was the #1 QB out of HS. Not sure how anyone can argue he isn't the goods. I was shocked at how poised and confident that kid look in his first start. He's elite as it gets. Meanwhile one of the guys who has next for us look like he was ****ing his pants going up against Bama's B team.

I haven’t rewatched it yet but just from being there and the limited clips I have seen, I may have actually been too low on Bryce Young all summer when I said he’s going to be the best QB Bama has ever had. That kid was absolutely sensational.
Very slippery. Keeps plays alive and very accurate. He is very good.

One of the most logical posts I've read...I agree with this for the last 10 years or so...would rather be in the Big 10 TBH

He was playing single high safety in the middle because it was man coverage and he had Menchie on one side (not seeing on TV screen) and then help on Ivey with Williams. I think he had his eyes on Menchie and bit on a fake move Menchie made I believe, so he took a false step towards Menchie and then he tried to get back. It’s on the Roman video. I could be interpreting incorrectly so what you’re saying is that there should’ve been two safeties in that coverage or just let the man below (Couch) handle the boundary and he should’ve been shaded on Ivey’s guy the whole time?
Single-high Safety should be in the MOF not over the ball.

If they wanted to double Menchie then they should've just went 2-high.
With some version of split-field coverage they could have essentially doubled Menchie AND the deep ball to the field.

Playing Cover-1...
With no pressure...
And no help to the field...
Is a disaster waiting to happen. (as we saw)

Bama was basically in a 3x1 bunch.
We could've played Cover-6 (quarter, quarter, half) and been fine. Blitz the Will LB to add some pressure.

Shoot, we could've even blitzed the Striker and rolled to Cover-3 and been good too.

Whole play is a disaster.
You can't play man coverage from the 4 yard line with no pressure and no field Safety.

Yeah, got ya. Thanks for breaking it down. It’s just surreal the amateur game planning & scheme/calls.
