Rolle thinks 2001 Miami would easily beat present-day Bama

Talent wise we had more but not much more. Coaching Saban blows Coker away. I'd pick Bama based on difference in coaching acumen and gameday ability.

Huh? I'm speechless. "In all, an extraordinary 17 players from the 2001 Miami football team were drafted in the first-round of the NFL Draft" 38 players of that team were drafted overall.

Does Alabama team have even 4 or 5 first rounders? When you have this much unheard of talent on one team you need no **** Saban. Seventeen first rounder, let this sink in for a moment.

I bet you Saban himself will agree. There is nothing a head coach can do against hungry, dedicated and extremely talented roster like that.
Which alabama team under Saban are we discussing? In the modern nfl he has ruled the draft with first rounders. I'm willing to consider based on how he's recruited, how they've performed this year, and his current history of ruling the draft year after year that yes they would likely beat us.

It's less an indictment on talent than the actual caliber of coaching staffs. Try and be more intelligent when discussing these things. Coker was awful with a boat load of talent. Saban is amazing with a boatload of talent. Not so easy a debate as you'd think.

It's the Jim's and Joe's not X's and O's. We are talking about this year Alabama's team. That's what is being discussed. That 2001 team would easily beat this year Alabama team even with Coker coaching against Saban. Try to be intelligent yourself.

Some troll jackass sent me a private message saying The 1995 Nebraska team would beat this team. Did they legalize LSD in Lincoln? Typical husker fans hide in the cow sh*t and talk tough.

Asked him "How do you complete a pass with Tommie's rocket arm with Ball Hawk, Rumph and Buchanon in the secondary? Better throw 10 Hail Marys but remember we aren't Georgia!

They were a running team, though. And our defensive line with sapp back then was better than our 2001 defensive line. Nebraska wore out our dline in the bowl game running.

Again would you take Coker over Tom Osborne?

That was because Frank Costa was horrendous and we couldn't stay on the field on O. 2001 team puts up more than the 24pts they got on our 94 team. Get out of here with this garbage.

I'm not sure if present day Alabama means 2016 Alabama or all of Saban's Bama teams.

If you had an all star team of the best players at Bama under Saban there's an argument they could beat the 2001 team.

It's nice to think that whenever a dynasty team is dominant, the question comes "Does it beat the 2001 Hurricanes?"

The closest that any modern team may have come might have been the mid 2000's USC teams.

But honestly, no team in the modern era has had that much talent on one roster at one time.

Our runningback corps had Portis, Edge and Gore. Gore was the third string runningback on this team. Unreal.

As for the question posed; no question. We would roll the tide.

It was Willis not Edge

Wasn't Vince wilfork like the 4th or 5th DT on that team?

After the game the D line said they had a harder time containing roscoe parrish running the practice squad then they did against Heisman winner Eric crotch.

jus stop

So Sean Taylor was the hardest hitting safety in history and he didn't even start! I guess he wouldn't help against the run and neither would Reed! We will never know but 18 first round picks that is mind boggling!

I agree we had a lot of talent but again Nebraska ran over our warren sapp stud dline and everyone else of that era. I know how great Sean Taylor became but on that team he wasn't close to what he would become. Therefore your point makes no sense.

Sean Taylor was destroying kick and punt returners that year. The only reason Taylor didn't see the field as much is because of Ed Reed. Judging by our coaching staff I can see your point why he didn't develop as quickly. That being said no use discussing a hypothesis that we can't reconcile. We will be here forever.

Fair point but is our defense also stopping that offensive rushing attack? That offense was miles better than the garbage solich coached team in 2001.

That said our defensive line, which was better than the 2001 team, got
Run over. Can't ignore that major point.

Lol but I think you're still not bright enough to understand what I said: given how Saban has recruited, the number of nflers and first rounders year after year, this team is no different in terms of future first rounders and nfl caliber talent.

Your 'jim' and 'joe' comment makes no sense when the talent on bamas current team is fairly excellent. Ok so we may have a couple more draft picks, it doesn't negate the glacial sized differences in sabans coaching staff and cokers.

Or maybe since it's so obvious to you we can ask the equally loaded 2002 team what they thought about the much better coached ohio state with also a fair amount of talent?

Keep trying.

Lol. No it's easily reconciled. Taylor was not a major factor on that defense. He would not have played an important role on that team on DEFENSE.

You really need to just stop..

Ed reed will be in the hall of fame.. losing him alone made that team worse than 01

The most underrated player in um history is Philip buchanon, he was also not there and he is probably the finest corner I've ever seen in college football. Mike rumph was gone as well as some pieces on the d line

More importantly was our o line wasn't even close to the 01 team. Both gore and portis were not there, shockey was gone.

Just stop

thats almost as bad as the idiot who tried to tell me that '08 Florida would have beat '01 Miami

So you'd take a uf team with a boat load of NFL players (including the murderer) with a stud coach like Meyer to lose so easily to our 2001 team?

Interesting.
uhhhhh...Yes

The 2001 team was far and away the most talented team Miami has ever had. That said, the coaching staff that year was mediocre. Even though Miami has 'Bama beat on not only talent, but depth, the wide difference in quality of coaching staff would keep this game a lot closer than it would be if the staffs were equal. That's why I've always said that the 1986 'Canes would probably be able to squeak out a close win over the 2001 team, just because Jimmy's staff ran circles around Coker's first staff. Let's be honest, it took a quality staff at Penn State to derail that team, and even then, it took Vinny throwing picks by the busload for them to have a chance.

Let me guess, you're really young. I like P.B. and all, but he isn't even top ten in regards to corners I've seen, and I'm thirty. Charles Woodson, Champ Bailey, Antrel Rolle, and *ugh* Deion Sanders were all superior corners. That's just off the top of my head. We won't get into guys like Bryant Westbrook, who were also standouts. P.B. was **** good, but he wasn't a lockdown corner.
