Riley Williams

I can't remember. How is his blocking? We need a Cam McCormick-type TE in the portal. We missed him this year

I remember him being a + inline TE blocker. I don't think he had many opportunities as the wham blocker. Tbf, he did whiff on a pass block on that crazy play Cam made against VTech last year (may have been the one he ended up catching the ball on lol). I'm in favor of bringing him back if that's a possibility.

No promises and we’re only buying the plane ticket. That’s what I’d offer. I’d like to really give our rooks a shot for real PT.

I’m in the minority but using the Portal for a blocking TE seems like a waste of resources with Luka Gilbert and Owen Ruskavich on the roster. Both of these players are predominantly blocking TEs like Williams.

Allocate the money elsewhere and develop what you have. If you can’t teach a big body to block effectively, then we have deeper problems.
I agree with this I guess I just think he’s capable of being a solid receiver as well

Could be wrong though I was a big fan when he committed so maybe I’m a bit biased still

I agree he has the potential to be a better receiver than given credit for. He was developing but had Arroyo ahead of hm and Old Man Cam playing the blocker/goal line threat role.

I would like to see the young guys get work but never a harm to bring in a seasoned vet. He knows the system and when you say solid receiver lets not forget Bauman had like 12 catches for 100 yards this year and a TD, he can easily do that IMO. My guess is Lofton was likely double that in production but wouldnt hurt to have another grown man in the room.

a month ago, i suggested his return would be good, but I was told by the elite coaches on this site that he was too slow.

my eyes tell me that he's not Renaldo Nehemiah, but he's a better blocker and receiver than 87 and 9.

Wow, now that's a reference pulled from the outer reaches of the universe. A+ reference.
That play against VaTech did involve some hurdling though, no?

Agreed that TE blocking was abysmal. But, the two culprits are Lofton and Bauman. Two TEs who are predominantly receiving TEs, not blocking TEs.
Lofton yes; Bauman no. Bauman was brought in to be a blocking TE. He was mid asf in my opinion. However he was most certainly not a receiving TE, regardless of the number of catches he had.

Wouldn’t get this take at alll tbh. Why get him over someone who actually played and proved their ability on the field this year and who didn’t literally already bail on our team once?

Because sometimes people make decisions they think are right for them and then realize it wasn't the right choice. Sounds like the kid was homesick but maybe grew up in the last year. He definitely showed flashes while he was here. If Mario and company think he's a good take, I'm trusting them.

And? There are TEs all over the country who actually started or played rotational snaps for their team. He showed flashes aka made legit like 1 quality play, and then followed that up with doing literally nothing this yr. I mean if he comes for free sure…if we have to spend Money on him? Why would that make any sense. There are plenty more PROVEN blocking TEs we could go after. Or we could go after a top Plrtal TE who can do it all and rely on Schott and Gilbert to step up with Lofton likely still getting heavily in the mix even though I think he should primarily be a Hybrid Back now. ..

And you know the intimate details of how he would come back? Would likely be a huge discount if anything at all. OKSt was also awful, so pretty clear it wasn't a Riley Williams issue. Again, I'm trusting Mario on this one. If he says yes, then welcome back. If he says no, then that's that. I don't know why people obsess over numbers. The people in charge have a handle on it.

Disagree.

Bauman had 63 catches for 610 yards and 13 TDs for Tulane before transferring to Miami. Compare those stats with Arroyo who had less catches (35), less yards (590) and less TDs (7).

Not saying Bauman was the second coming of Winslow, but if Arroyo was a receiving TD, so was Bauman at Tulane.
