This weekend CaneINsider caught up with 2015 WR Calvin Ridley of Coconut Creek Monarch High School (Florida) and the four-star wide receiver says that he’s considering the University of Miami and Alabama the most. Ridley took home MVP honors at this past weekend’s Pylon 7v7 Florida Elite Camp and his Florida Fire 7 on 7 team came away with the championship in a field of 20 all-star teams from across the state of Florida.

“We just want to show people we are the No. 1 ranked [7on7] team in South Florida and all over the world,” Ridley said about their performance.

Recruiting wise, Ridley is down to two choices he says and he’s heavily considering both Miami and Alabama. Of the University of Miami, Ridley says it’s the place he feels most comfortable.

“I like Alabama at Miami. When I went there [Miami] I feel like I’m at home. When I went to Alabama I feel like I’m home too, the coaches are so nice. They work with me, academically wise [at both schools]…and I appreciate that that’s why I picked those two colleges.”

When asked how he’s going to narrow down his two choices, Ridley says he’s going to keep getting information about both schools.

“I’m going to take more visits, just to see how much more comfortable I am living there and of course with the academics.”

Ridley is of course closely tied to his high school teammate, Shawn Burgess-Becker who also attends Monarch High and plays both wide receiver and safety. Burgess-Becker and Ridley spent a lot of time together growing up and are practically brothers. Ridley says that there’s a very good chance both will end up at the same place for college.

‘We’re going to go to college together. I got to be with him, well I ain’t got to be with him but you know, I want to play with him in college.”

Burgess-Becker is a consensus four star talent who is nursing a leg injury and didn’t play in this weekend’s Pylon 7v7 Florida Championship. But he’s proven that he’s one of the nation’s top talents on both sides of the ball.

“He can play anywhere he wants to play. He can play on both sides of the ball, he’s that good. Whatever he chooses, I don’t care. I like him at receiver, I like him at safety, I don’t really know to tell you the truth. He doesn’t know.”

But what Ridley does know is that the two want to play together and continue to provide the match up nightmare they both give opposing defenses on the field.

I think we have great chance! Golden and his staff aint playing around this year! I see a top 10 recruiting class at the very least!

The fact that SBB is involved makes me happy here. He knows SBB is all Miami but I think he really wants to see what Bama has to offer. We know he is a top priority for Miami and Saban could live without him but just likes to stack the 5* for his recruiting.Golden is fighting and putting in work.

Not that it isn't a factor with Ridley but I'm also of the mindset of some around here that Bama's relevance in local recruiting has been overestimated in some of our minds. That said, it's going to be refreshing as **** after Bama has another disappointing season and they become a non-factor down here. Then we can just focus on discrediting Muschump's successor, laughing at Fat Bielema or getting screwed by L$U bagmen every once in a while.

Ridley is all miami, burgess is pretty much all miami but has interest in bama as well...

Mario is very very very good. don't underestimate him using everything to his advantage. theres a reason they didn't pull the trigger a few weeks ago, and he was it.

Cristobal loses all juice down here if we start winning. His play now is "I'm a Cane and I bleed orange and green but even I can see the program is far off. Come to Bama!". On top of that, if Bama's 5-star o-line performs as atrociously as it did to finish last season then Lil Nicky is going to need a fall guy. He'll just assume that Kiffin can handle Florida.

not true. nothing changed. yes, the relevance of bama locally is overstated.

I personally can see the day where Texas is a bigger threat to cherry pick kids from down here than Bama.
