Richt Talking About The Qbs

The funny thing is people keep down playing a freshman starting right away when a legit case can be made that dudes like rosier and sheriffs shouldn't even be at miami.

Wrong, dumbass. You have no case to make that Rosier or Shirreffs shouldn't be at Miami. Rosier won the only game he started here, and you have never even seen Shirreffs play in a college football game(Don't mention last years spring game. That was a glorified scrimmage, and he was throwing to a bunch of midget walk-ons.).

I have a feeling this QB issue is going to run through the start of the regular season. It's possible they play it safe and go with a veteran right off the bat. They should have one of the better defenses in the nation and it only makes sense to go with the guy least likely to kill you with turnovers. That said, I'm not hopping on the Malik Rosier band wagon. Everyone likes to mention the Duke win two years ago but while he played solid, he hardly carried the offense. He came out sharp in the first half running Coley's watered down version of a high school offense but he folded in the second half and the team had to resort to just running it into a stacked box trying to kill the clock.

Career passing numbers: 31-61 370 Yds 2TD 3 INT. Those numbers are hardly encouraging.

He is not Miami quality. If Rosier is the starter this is going to be a long, frustrating season.

We don't need much from our QB, but it's still a lot to ask for if the QB that emerges just isn't good enough or is still too young.

Amazing how Kaaya is content with winning nothing in college and leaving early only to become a 5th round selection as opposed to competing for the ACC and a playoff birth and getting drafted in the same spot... All while money isn't an issue for him. I'm sure if you gave every QB in the nation that criteria they would come back, yet we had to have the only pvssy for a heart, non-competitor who rather be a day 3 pick.

Steve Walsh wasn't "Miami quality" either. He had something like two D1 offers. He turned out OK. Quit listening to these "practice reports" and give everyone a fair shake.

I don't remember how many offers Walsh had but th staff was super excited about th other QB they recruited that year. I think his name was Steve Turkowski

Perry will have the job...

A guy on campus for two months coming from a PeeWee level HS offense should definitely give us our best chance to win right now.

Not like there is a bunch of world beaters on the roster.

Maybe there isn't a worldbeater on the roster. I'm not sure we need one. Nate Peterman wasn't a worldbeater when he got to Pitt, but we could win the ACC with a QB like him this year.

I just don't see any realistic way Perry takes us where we want to and should go this year given the near certainty he won't be comfortable with anything near a full playbook and won't be a strong leader because of his own uncertainty in the offense.

Truth is none of these qbs on the roster seem to be guys that are strong leaders and they will likely have to use a dumbed down playbook too.

There is no experinced qbs on this team. Rosier started one game. Allison and sheriffs have never played. So what makes you believe that those 3 guys gives the team the best chance to win?

Experience isn't just playing. Those guys have been on a college campus and have been practicing under the coaching staff. They know the playbook.

I hope it's Allison. He's more mobile than Kaaya but he's basically a pro style QB a Miami staple. He plays two or three and Art takes over from there. Stability, balanced offence, multiple wr's and TE' s going to the pro's each year. That's what I'm talking about.

Perry might not be on campus but he is learning the playbook too. They are sending him videos and **** of them breaking down the offense. So it aint like when perry gets here in may he wont know whats going on.

Bernie Kosar should have never taken a snap at UM. Well, at least if the posters here were picking the QB going into 1983. Richt knows how that turned out. It's not always the guy with the strongest arm, or most athletic. It'll be the guy that limits mistakes and makes just enough plays to keep the chains moving.

If I had any money, I'd put it on Shirreffs. Good size, good feet, strong enough arm to get the job done, and very smart. I don't get why people don't consider him UM quality. Watching his HS tape I saw him doing some things that Kaaya could never do. Like, I don't know, move??? Dude can run for his size, and the best part is he is not afraid to. Good ball placement, great play action, can play under center.

I'll get dogged for this, but that's who I think it'll be.

If Perry wins the job after a fair competition either he's very special, or we have four guys on the roster who aren't worth very much.

Unless Rosier demonstrably separates from the pack, why would anyone expect him to start as a RS Senior. Surly if it's a close race, you give the reps to whoever has the brightest future.

Dopey fans play this season for the future. Guys whose livelihoods depend on success play the guy who helps them win the most games this year. We'll find out who Rick thinks that guy is. But, rest assured, he isn't going to play a young guy just for "the future."

Easy now, no need for name calling. My point is if its unclear who "helps win the most games", the redshirt senior likely sits--tie goes to the guy with the brightest future.

I don't believe it was coach speak. Richt is genuinely disappointed no one took the reigns and separated himself.

Ideally, Kaaya would have come back and the freshmen would have a year of seasoning. But here we are. Hopefully, the light will come on for at least one of the six. My guess is the Sheriff, followed by Allison and Weldon.

He'll be a RS Junior this fall

It's funny.

Why are there really 2 camps on this topic?

Allison, Weldon, and Perry are all on the "wait and see" list. Testaverde isn't getting the spot. Most everyone agrees with those 2 scenarios.

The debate is really about Shirreffs and Rosier.

Guys who think Shirreffs has a shot at the job think Rosier is garbage. And the guys who think Rosier has a shot (me included) think Shirreffs is garbage.

Now, some guys are hedging their bets, and aren't really definitive on anyone. Everyone could win the job. Lol

252 might be the only anti-Rosier AND anti-Shirreffs guy on the board. Lol

It's gonna be between Weldon and Allison. Rosier is the fallback of one of those two can't seize the job. I think Allison will be giving ample opportunity to win the job. He's the best choice from a roster standpoint. It's all or nothing for him. He'll be the starter in 2017 or he'll transfer in 2018. If he can win the job you roll with him, Rosier, Sheriffs and Testaverde. Then you can shirt Weldon and Perry and shirt Sitowsky in 2018. Allison plays two years and then you have a helluva QB battle in 2019.

Perry will redshirt regardless. No way he beats everyone coming in that late. He's good, but not a once in a decade type player.

If neither quarterback separate themselves in the Spring and Perry blows the coaches away in the fall I see the job being Perry's. I think either Perry or Weldon will not redshirt depending on who is more game ready.

That's not really the truth. That's the truth as you see it.

We have no real idea who the leaders are at QB because we've never seen them lead. It's a tough argument to make that Rosier doesn't have more leadership standing with his team than a true freshman who isn't even here yet. There was a huge rift on the team when Folden insisted on playing Kaaya instead of using Ryan Williams when he was ready because Williams had the team on his side as a vet.

I'm not going to get into a "my guy versus your guy" thing that goes on for the next 6 months because I don't have a guy. Like I've said, I just want the best QB who gives us the best chance to win right now. I simply don't see that being a true freshman who is skinny as a rail, played in a Pee Wee level HS offense, and doesn't get to UM until a couple months before the season starts. It's asking too much of him.

But you think its a guy like rosier, who shouldnt even be at miami. Yea that makes since.

You're dumb and/or petulant. I don't have time for either. If that's what you got out of all this my money is on dumb.
