Please summarize his interview cuz I am at work. Thanks in advance.
Sorry if this is rambling or with typos--posting from my phone.
He was calm and cool, as usual. No sweaty forehead. Didn't look like a buffoon in an oversized shirt and tie. Shorts and tee. Mentioned that he dressed this way because he lives in paradise--why not.
Asked about how this job is different than Georgia. Mentioned that, for him, he was going in blind at Georgia--only knew the Bobby Bowden way, and followed it. Now he's seasoned and knows what he's doing, knows what he wants and what to expect (with some exceptional situations).
Asked about the job and why he took it. Said he received messages from tons of former players and wanted continue helping mentor and shape young men.
Asked about whether any other job would have been preferred. Said no. Miami was unique in that he believes they can win here and also it's his alma mater--job wouldn't be here next year.
Asked about assistant coaching hires. Said he doesn't want to be fast as much as he wants to be right. Lots of coaches that are very interested in coaching here. Also (this is key), highlighted that it's more than just the coaching staff that's important, he really needs to get the right support staff in place. He mentioned director of football ops (I think, but can't be sure if he mentioned strength program too).
Asked about approach to big games and winning playoff games. Said that it's less about making spectacular plays and more about executing the plays you do and your gameplan with excellence. Also mentioned that often the spectacular big plays are just normal plays that are made at really key moments.
Asked about team discipline (in reference to Dabo suspending 3 players right before the game). Said that Dabo is being wise in that he's being consistent and not treating any player differently than the others (ahem, the Urban Meyer way of destroying a team).
Guys wrapped the interview by telling him he'll have to get the U back into championship games like the playoffs. He seemed supremely confident and cool throughout.
Dude has that Schnelly kind of quiet and cool confidence. I can't think of any other current coaches that have it like him.
