I like to look at stats and history, so I was looking for signs on how we can turn this thing around (outside of fire the coach, or hire an OC)

2010 - Georgia started 1-4, and ended up 6-7. 2011 they finish 10-4. 2012 they finish 12-2 and take almost beat Alabama to go to the NC.

So Richt has turned a complete disaster around somewhat quickly before. So I'm looking for similarities between 2010 Georgia and 2018 Miami.

1) QB - Richt started RS Fr Aaron Murray, stuck with him, and let him take his lumps during a 6-7 season. It looked Perry was going to be the same thing, but that got sidetracked. He needs to decide who his QB of the future is now, if it's Perry or Williams, and ride him out for the season.

2) Recruiting - Here's how they were ranked in recruiting on 247.

Georgia:
2009 - 4
2010 - 11
2011 - 7
2012 - 9

Miami:
2015 - 27
2016 - 22
2017 - 12
2018 - 8

I've said since Day 1 Richt should be judged as a recruiter, not a coach. As a coach, he is who he is. But as a recruiter, he's always been one of the best. He can still be successful here if he packs the team with enough talent to overcome his coaching shortcomings. And he's in the best area of the country to do that.

BUT....he has to recruit Top 10 type classes consistently. He's done that so far. The talent of the 2017 & 2018 classes will pay off when they're upperclassmen IF he can also bring in successful classes this year and next.

What I think is now more important than our final record this year is:

1) Pick your QB. Hope he shows flashes the rest of the year, even if he makes mistakes, but also show confidence in that QB. It'll be easier to sell recruits on Miami if we've already got a QB that both the coach and recruits believe in.

2) The 2019 recruiting class is currently ranked 22nd. The 2020 class is currently ranked 1st. This is where Richt earns his paycheck for me. It's an absolute must that he bring in the 2019 class at least close to a Top 10 class.

If we can do those 2 things I'll like where we're at, despite this being season being a trainwreck.

What did he win at Georgia with all those top recruiting classes?

Expected response: "He was a play away from playing in the NC bro"

The reality of what Richt is:

Nice effort OP, but the #1 issue IS Richt and his offense. We could have the #1 class and he would waste it. Jeff Thomas should be on the cover of Sports Illustrated but instead he is an unknown talent who will lose millions if we run the same offensive scheme next year.

Nice try OP;

First off, UGA had boosters helping him out during dumpster fire seasons. It’s no different than LSU picking up top talent despite Les or Coach O shatting the bed. Why? B/c those schools have boosters providing extra incentives despite hard times.

Our class right now is ranked 24th. How will a class featuring a massive amount of projects help steer us in the right direction? Furthermore, ur bringing up what happened in 2012, which is a lifetime ago. This was apart of Richt’s decline. Now go see what happened w that # 9 ranked class the following yr. 8-5. Then 10-3, in 2014 and after starting 4-0 in 2015, they hit a 3 game skid (sounds familiar) and after they struggled to beat a weak GT team 13-7 (sounds familiar), UGA let him go.

So while I appreciate ur optimism, the jig is up on Richt. No matter how talented his team is, he will ALWAYS find a way to lose at least 3 games/yr. Difference here, there are no boosters to save him this time.

We won’t get a top 10 class this year not even if we take the bagmen from UGA and Bama.

And to be completely and brutally honest, I don’t think we will be in the top 20 when it’ll be all said and done.

Class is absolutely falling apart. Going to be "diamond in the rough" heaven. This is the type of sh*t that will make it even more difficult for the next guy to step in and try to swing a quick rebuild. Depth will be lacking and the cycle will perpetuate itself. Ouch.

He’s signed 1 top 10 class for us so far. He’s not even coming close this year. Maybe it’s time we put the “he’s a great recruiter” in the same bin as “QB guru”.

Oh yeah, he’s a great recruiter......
QBs
OTs
DTs
Losing local guys
Not having the foresight to have a contingency plan on certain positions

I get the hate - I'm not a Richt fan by any means. I tried to tell people when he got here he was fired from Georgia for a reason, and he was stripped of play calling for a reason. His early Georgia team always lost because they couldn't score, not because of the defense.

But I think my idea of being "successful" for Richt is probably different than most fans.

If Richt got us to consistently being a 9-11 win team each year, I consider that a success. I think it's crazy for anyone to have ever expected Richt to win a NC here. That isn't and never was going to happen.

I don't think Miami fans don't realize how bad and long our drought has been. You say 2012 was a lifetime ago, but in 2017 we won 10 games for the first time since 2003. And we got to the ACCCG the first time ever. We weren't even a Top 25 team in the 10 years before Richt got here. Our NC years are ancient history.

- Richt got the 12th & 8th ranked class the last 2 years. So he's shown he can recruit without SEC $$.
- He won 10 games calling the same broke *** plays he's always called with Malik Rosier at QB.

So his broke system can get us to 10 wins if we have a QB and keep recruiting well. It's gonna look ugly and be frustrating as sh*t. But I'll take 10 wins instead of 7.

My expectations for Richt has always been - get us back to being a respectable 10 win team, and do a great job in recruiting. Basically make Miami an appealing job again for the next guy. And best case scenario Richt hires a decent OC at some point.

Richt isn't a great coach - he's just the best Miami can get (for now).

Try top 30 at this rate.

The problem with the Richt is a great recruiter sentiment is he doesn’t understand south Florida. He’s too old school to understand kids these days, especially the front running ones down here. Which is evident in never having contingency plans for top kids when they leave. Sure he’s a great living room guy with the moms but moms aren’t making the decision.

The difference is that we went from 9-4 to 10-3 (should have been 11-3) to whatever we are this year.. 7-6 at best?

All with more talent, getting his own players, and developing his own QBs.

Time to make some changes because it's not working. His QB recruiting and development took him down at UGA and it's doing it to him here.

Bro, we went from 9-4, and we should've been 12-1 the next season (but I digress) and we will be truly fortunate if we win our next two contest to even make it to 7 wins.

Honestly, nothing is right, and I felt that way since he arrived. Yeah I know we now have a shiny new IPF and what not, but go back and re-watch the games from the 2016 season. There is no way we should've had a 4 game losing streak. His offense has been the problem for a while now. Our QBs are not being developed properly. He's trying to fit a square peg in a round hole instead of finding the square hole for these pegs.

So Richt has turned a complete disaster around somewhat quickly before.
Richt's first year at UGA was 2001; therefore, the 6-7 record in 2010 was largely a "complete disaster" of his own making and he was fired three years after the 12-2 finish because during his entire 15 years at UGA, he couldn't do better than 2 or 3 loses per year despite having excellent talent. Nobody here will ever be satisfied with 2 or 3 losses a year.
