Richt has boxed himself in re: QB

Prior to this season, I was holding out hope that Malik would be able to serve as the bridge to the talent at QB that we have in Perry and Williams. I applauded Richt for going to Perry early in the year but was guarded with the reality that making such a bold move meant that he was now all-in with his young signal caller. I honestly felt (and still feel) that Malik beats UNC and FSU and probably gets us through a weak Coastal division and onto Charlotte. I'll probably get slammed for this but he did it last season and the sample size is there despite his obvious and numerous flaws.

With Perry, the upside is clearly evidence but let's not act like we weren't jaded based on performances against poor opponents and at home no less. He's not Tua or even Fromm and needs 2 good years in a college system, simple as that. Here is the conundrum we are in now:
- Stick with Perry and risk the season spiraling out of control further and completely shattering his confidence
- Go back to Malik

I absolutely hate option 2 but if winning the division and getting back to the ACCCG is our goal, this might be the only option Richt has given himself. I don't think it will be a popular decision in the locker room initially, but I truly believe that Perry needs more mental reps on the sideline, and think this will be beneficial in his development now that he's seen the bullets fly. He'll have more confidence going into the spring and that will also bode well for Jarren as the two compete for reps.

This is what more coaching decisions and roster management gets you and this, of course, could blow up in Richt's face regardless of the direction he goes in.

Honestly, at this rate, it doesn't really matter who the QB is if the offense is going to be run/called the same way.

Richt had Perry on an extremely short leash vs UVA. That tells me that he doesn't trust him at all. Maybe it's due to immaturity issues, bad practice habits, or whatever else we've heard about on here. Richt trusts Rosier more than he trusts Perry even though he knows Rosier is very limited and severely limits what the offense can do. There was no going back to Perry after he yanked him, and that says a lot. And we can't even talk about Weldon because he's always suspended.

Seems like he doesn't want to throw Williams out there just yet. Maybe he really is limited by an abdominal injury, I don't know.

This is a rotten QB situation to be in.

As I said several weeks ago, I was afraid this would be Richt's 2015 UGA QB situation all over again. Looks like those fears are being realized.

Disagree.

Malik is trash and we will lose more games this year with him as QB.

Perry may be trash or he may improve but either way we need to find this out before next year.

Third option is once we are within 4 games of the end of the season rotate Williams and Perry and see who the **** is going to be our QB for the next couple of years.

Mental reps on the sideline? Did I read that right? How does option 2 equate to Miami winning the division and going back to the ACCCG? I need someone to help me out with that logic. Because he certainly didn't win the UVA game for us and he had plenty of opportunities. There's also zero guarantee that he was going to beat UNC. Some of you guys keep on holding to the lucky breaks that we got last season and still hold onto that whole "But Malik won us 10 games and the division title herp derp" ish.

OP, Richt has flagrantly mishandled this QB situation. Taking Perry out as soon as he started off slow and giving him a short leash compared to his predecessor whom always has these inconsistencies is what shatters one's confidence.

With poor blocking and bad play calling, it doesn't matter. I like Perry's upside. Let the kid grow and get Jarren some reps while maintaining his redshirt.

No pity for the weak at this point. And the weak is Richt. This is year 3 and the QBs are all his minus Rosier (who was Al Golden's backup). This is his mess, he can rot in it now.

I appreciate what Malik has done for this program, but I’m afraid we’ve gotten the best out of him. Besides his scrambling, the book is out on stopping him. Go with Kosi. Malik constantly makes throws behind his receivers in the flat, turning them around and reducing run after catch yardage. The middle of the field is almost nonexistent to him and he struggles with putting the ball ahead of his receivers on the long ball. We knew we’d get freshmen like performances out of Kosi, but he needs to play and develop. It’s not a given that Williams will beat him out next year either so let him see live action now

That short leash was telling.

And I'll even give Richt that he was hoping/thinking Rosier was going to provide a spark, and come back to win the game. If that happens, let #12 keep the job.

But when he didn't ... It's time to move on. Rosier played enough snaps to change the outcome of that game, and to prove that he should be the starter. He didn't get it done.

This should be an easy decision for Richt.

Unless offensive scheme drastically changed not winning the Coastal this year with either. Play Perry and let him.develope. Can not go to Williams for one major reason. If Williams starts and does much better than what we have seen it would be very likely Williams would be the only QB on the roster next year as Perry and Weldon would likely TX. Do not name next years starter until week before first game

People wonder why Kosi and Cade have been suspended, why Jarren wasn’t going to classes, why Rosier always needs to improve on his leadership skills...they can’t develop this maturity because their QB coach is almost the same age. They see him as their friend, they don’t respect him.

Do you have any evidence to back that up? It could just be a recruiting failure--Miami has recruited nothing but knuckleheads at QB the past few years.

All 18 year olds are knuckleheads. This is what I’ve heard from people around the campus.
