Rewatched the tape...I think it can be fixed.

Who?

OSU- no
Indiana- no
Ole Miss - may not make it
UGA- Stockton is meh
Texas- arch depends on if he is hot or cold
BYU- may not make it
Utah - dampier is good but
ND- we find out next week. Remember, nd was up 1 at half to 2-6 Navy. They also had a dog fight with Unc. They lost to byu.

College football today isn’t the same. Miami’s offense is the only sure thing I’ve seen. Yes, we really need oj back. We need Lucas to be 100%. We need the DL to show up more than 1-2 drives. I suspect the kids weren’t focused on 1-0 but the offense dominated and defense did just enough.
Anybody we face is gonna screen us to death

Wright and Sears are some dudes and will be looking to take jobs like JJ and Bryce did before them….

Honestly I’d be fine with another safety to play with Bryce and JJ… Poyser might need to be asked to move on or accept a lesser role.
As we learned from Cantwell we can't be relying on true freshmen no matter how much potential they may have coming in.

How many “meh” QBs have had a career best game against us this season? All of them?

we also did fine against one of the best already. Wake’s QB is ahead of almost every CFP team’s qb we could face. The best QBs aren’t on elite teams or are hurt(sayin moore taylor…). Russell at bama is good but inexperienced and bama isn’t Sabin Bama.

I’m not saying we are an elite defense. I’m saying our team matches up well with everyone because our offense is that much better and our D can do enough.
We got lucky playing wake early in year, plus they figured it out in 2nd half and moved the ball at will. Deficit was just too much to overcome

All the teams you just named have way more talent on offense than UNC or Florida state
Indiana- replaced their qb
OSU lost their QB
Ole Miss has two losses and may not make it. Elite Qb
UGA is the 2 team for a reason! Stockton is not a day one QB but he is surrounded by talent.
Texas has tons of talent but two losses and has looked bad at times. Arch is streaky. If he gets hot to end the year and they get in, watch out.
BYU Utah determines if byu still has a chance.
Utah isn’t as stacked with nfl kids as you think. Byu likely, too.
ND is my 3 and will be one tough game next week. Yes, I have them ahead of Indiana and OSU who have QB issues.
Edit-
UCLA is playing with their back-up QB.

You don’t need a good QB to carve up this defense. A career of mediocrity guy set his personal records against us less than 12 hours ago. 🤣

Why focus on teams with qb issues? That’s mostly irrelevant to us bc even 2nd stringers and average journeymen can carve us up based on the last 3 games.

So now, people are taking aim at Terry Jefferson as their new scapegoat, that's interesting.

The players who performed the worst this game, was Zechariah Poyser - Safety, The LB group, Fitzgerald - Safety & JJ Dunnigan - Safety.

The Safeties Coach is Will Harris
The LB's Coach is Corey Heatherman

Both of whom are in their 2nd year in their spots, while Jefferson just came back after being at Jax ST. Not to mention, the CB room has been decimated with injuries the entire season.

The Safety & the LB room have been relatively healthy all year.

But Jefferson is the problem??

If yall say so.

Some thoughts:

1.Poyser and Chase Smith were absolutely HORRIBLE in zone coverage and in pursuite/space tonight. Chase Smith plays way too upright in space and Poyser is way to stiff. What this staff sees in playing Poyser at free safety - when he should be playing strong safety or nickel - I will never know. He is no Jakobe Thomas, and he needs to play in coverage in shorter zones and in the box. Man on man, he would do fine against tight ends whereas Dunnigan was horrid in man coverage tonight.

2. Bryce was lost tonight because they've been playing him all over the field: I saw him at field corner, nickel, and ss. He needs to lock down the free safety/center field position in this cover three scheme; he needs to watch things unfold from the middle because he is not being utilized effectively right now, and Poyser is a complete liability in cover three back there (too slow to react).

3. Dunnigan played poorly except at blitzing, setting the edge, and crashing down on runs from the backside tonight: he was poor at tackling, poor in man coverage, and a bit lost in zone. His run fits were good, but he is a work in progress (slow at processing) in the passing game.

4. Blount is not very good - way too stiff and frequently lost the edge/got pushed inside. Lightfoot was turned inside to to a lesser extent as well. Blount needs to gain weight and play DT.

5. Wilson needs to play more downs, and be allowed to just rush with less thinking.

6. Lightfoot is our best edge by a mile and needs to play every down; we are really missing Hayden Lowe's potential. As a side note, Lightfoot needs to stop flicking people off on camera lol.

7. The OL played an elite-level game, and ran the ball at will when needed - what more can you ask for?

8. Special teams were also good/fine.

9. The refs called a good, fair game. They made all of the right calls on those onsides. If the refs treated us like they did in years passed, we lose. Whatever has changed, I like it.

Really curious to see how we bounce back, and what changes are made.

It can be fixed??.... looks like we are going from bad to worse every week

DB's need to get back to the basics with tackling rugby style

#3 hesitates to much instead of running through the player low wrapping up the legs to the dirt . He slows down thinking too much and by the he gets to make a tackle he's reaching high from the side letting the carrier get extra 3-5 yards.

#6 #7 i believe are scared of being tossed out for unnecessary roughness/unsportsman like conduct

Man i dont think we need to blitz as much.

You all see where Brohm gets his playcalling skills from. Petrino is a wizard scheming against zones & blitzes. I will say Pruitt was an inch away from tipping that 2nd touchdown to Thurman.

Some posters been calling it the zone blitz leaves a big soft open in the middle of the field and the flats and thats where everybody since wake forest been attacking side to side then over the middle and then over the top once we creep up a bit.

Safeties need to be on the phone and pick jakobe thomas brain i think he's as big of a miss than 3 & 4 last year those screens wouldve been called out and met with heavy pressure tackled for a loss or minimum gain.
The TE and receivers would think twice about running in the whole in the middle because Thomas would light you up like Toure. Right now nobody is posing as a threat/enforcer. Poyser can be that enforcer but not from FS.

I believe we get our identity back before the playoffs ( I hope ). They're playing undiciplined and lackadaisical knowing the offense going to come thru. We need them to get back to the basics cause nobody fearing our defense right now (passing wise).

I’d start with simplifying things. It’s clear the guys in the secondary are thinking way too much, they really haven’t been out of position expect for maybe a play or two with the TE, they’re just getting beat because they’re thinking too much.

Is it scheme or do we just have too many defensive players not in their natural positions. It must be hard to go from ss to cb to lb ect. Injury has really hammered us so all we have it

I know nothing, just curious.
