Has the ACC in its entire history seen a worse OL class? Hunter Wells as the only player?? No wonder Kaaya had the experience he did.

Conclusion out of 20 tri county blue chips Miami only got 1 in Kevin grooms which never made it to campus and we missed out on every blue chip from the tri county

This was the JaDaveon Clowney class, he was by & large the highest rated prospect in the class, although I would say he didn't live up to the billing of his ranking.

This class was a sh*t show at LB. Pretty much every high ranked LB in this class ended up as a bust. Except for Terrance Smith & Perryman.

CB was a complete wash as well. The highest ranked CB Demetrious Nicholson outta Virginia had a good TF season & a very good Sophomore season, then disappeared into obscurity for the rest of his career.

The best CB's from this class ended up being mid-tier 3-star Marcus Peters from the Town & Jalen Collins.

But from a Miami perspective, this was the start of the beginning of our descent into CFB ****.

I know most think it was with Coker & Shannon, but on a National & local level, Miami still had the prestige of the Dynastic/Glory years that made the program attractive. Inspite of the numerous misses, we were still viewed as a premier program for talented recruits.

It was the hiring of a completely unqualified fuxkstick like Folden & the refusal by the administration/BOT to properly invest in the program that made the death knell ring for us.

Once Folden got here it signaled to the Nation & more importantly to South FL, that it was over. The dream was dead & Miami was free falling into the abyss.

It’s a little more nuanced than that. Once Golden was signed, a few months later a major scandal erupted that led to national media saying that Miami should get the death penalty. And other colleges likely saying that we would (or at least be on probation for many years). That wasn’t resolved until teo years later, by which point Golden had acquired a 13-11 record over two years. People could then recruit against Golden the coach, and we missed that “new hope” window entirely.

That’s the one! What ever happened to that guy, and why did he have such a Vendetta against Miami?
 
Eddie Johnson was the most talented player in this class. Guy was an absolute beast. I saw him run down Lamar Miller from behind in practice when he broke a long run. Big “what could have been” situation with him.

There are even more nuances than that. Randy was the only school leader who smelled Nevin was a rat from a mile away. Keeping Randy may have absolved us of the serious penalties golden self imposed.
Golden started that first year by posting printed 8.5x11 congratulations notes to players at all America practices. He unsurprisingly landed none of them.
His S&C program was highly suspect. His defensive scheme even more so.
He was openly flirting with Penn state for their head coaching job from the moment the scandal dropped. That didn’t help recruiting either.
He didn’t want Lamar Jackson as a qb. He recruited guys like AQM and tyriq McCord and misused them.
He was good at recruiting tight ends and defensive backs. That’s really all he could do.

I remember watching that opener against Maryland and saying why does Miami look so frickin small except on the OL.

to be a contrarian, we did NOT miss on Golden since he was hired to run a PR campaign with upcoming sanctions. he was NOT hired to operate a successful football team. and to be honest, he did a good job of weathering the storm.
