Retiring the turnover chain

It has nothing to do with being cool or momentum. The turnover chain is the embodiment of the storm that’s coming. And it starts with a turnover.

What I also like is that it wasn’t a marketing ploy, or student body/fan vote; the turnover chain was created by Miami Hurricanes football, specifically Diaz, Rumph and Wilfork - South Florida boys and real Miami Hurricanes. They nailed it. It’s not just about turnovers - though that was the original intent and a great bonus - it’s more than that now, it’s about The U.

1. There should always be a turnover chain. (Many posters recommendation)
2. The band should learn the song (mianjomar)
3. The next one should be bigger...more expensive. (DMoney)

I would assume the initial media swoon will wear off shortly because, well it's not really new anymore. However, that doesn't mean it needs to be retired. It's part of Miami lore now and even if it gets a bit played out, it's still OUR thing. Everybody else is just copying. Like they did with the smoke, like they did with the 4 fingers, etc.

The fact of the matter is, the chain has other teams and coaches shook. Even Clemson, who beat the **** out of us was still going on and on about the chain after the game.

Super high-profile gimmicks like this can get corny and dated almost overnight. As long as the players love it keep using it. No one better than the players to tell you when the gimmick goes corny.

I’d keep updating the gimmick to keep it fresh.

Just so very Miami. Keep it until Emmert and his clowns ban it. You know that **** will eventually do it.

Coach Diaz said that the fans are more excited about the chain than the players. When was the last time we've heard the media lift up the fans from s Florida? How about never.

The chain is about more than marketing. Its an organizing principal for the fans, the players and even the city. The fans will decide when/if it gets played out.

Do not retire the chain. There aren't too many teams that can laugh at us now anyway. Maybe like 6 or 7 tops.

Nope.

When it gets old, get a newer, more expensive model.

That's what I'm saying. If anything they should just come with a new model every year.

this right here...retire the 2017 chain....create a bigger badder 2018 chain

Auction that boy off every year. I bet they'd fetch at least 100 K + every year for the original.

Especially those that come from championship teams.

Agreed but then (if you're consistently good/relevant) you can ride through the "played out" stage to just the universally hated/ridiculed stage where us STILL whipping it out 5 years from now is just an affront to every hater calling it lame. Plus, I think we've pretty much set the bar at an unreachable level for sideline props so it's not like anyone is going to come out with something better.

I'd be very surprised if it was back next season.

The momentum is gone.

I think it became a lot LOT bigger than the coaches intended it to be

It actually started getting on my nerves because I like hearing about miami football, not the **** chain 24/7 lol

but gives a f*ck about momentum, you gonna retire miami if they lose to wisconsin?

Clemson was corny AF, your coach goes to the effort of downplaying the TC, but then makes plans to cut it after the game. They still had a TO, nothing about the chain say's winning, it's about TO's.

Yeah I'd be surprised if we run through smoke next year too. Just no momentum whatever that means

Bama has a championship belt, it just never got the full blast media coverage that the TO Chain got because it isn't as interesting.

The props feel silly if you get a turnover in the middle of a blowout but the solution there is to recruit top 5 classes and never ever get blown out.

The chain is a good way to get some Miami personality and style into these games under this rules environment that penalizes all the fun stuff our teams did in the 80s.

LOL! In other news, we need to stop throwing up the U. We need to stop reminding people about our 5 rings. Stop claiming the Rock as a former player. Stop calling ourselves NFL U. Maybe we should stop winning too, because who wants that to get old??

Senseless article.

Its author has been on an endless crusade for relevance.
Only one problem --- he never was.

Think we can all agree that the TC was a terrific idea that really galvanized the team and the intrigued the nation. Think even those who are Miami haters would have to admit it was a real positive for UM and college football as a whole this past season.

Dude, I had NO idea about this. I had to look it up. Anyone here still want to kiss Dabo's ***??? First "bush league", then he goes and lets himself get filmed doing this? It was sickening sitting in the stands for that whole game and watching on the big screen as Tiggers fans young and old, but especially f()ckin CHILDREN sitting there with their **** parents, are shown over and over flipping the U upside down. Those muther****n posers who act like they're all class, yet condone nut grabbing and non-consensual **** probing...

Mother Fck that program, that bich *** cheerleader of a coach, and all their holier than thou, poser ***, johnny rebel come lately, fake *** "fans".

I hate Clemp's Son something fierce. Their day is coming. And when it does, I am going to enjoy the **** out of it, I tell you what. Bless their fckin hearts...
