Looks like we did a **** good job with retention.

Horton (WR) - Starting WR
Williams (TE) - Starting TE
Johnson (RB) - 3rd RB at best
Horton (TE) - 4th DT at best
Patterson (S) - hasn't developed enough to be a starter

Who else did we lose of any significance?

Agreed. Kudos to the staff and admin for in essence realizing the crucial importance of retention in this new environment. They did a great job sealing off the backside pursuit. Pause.

That’s how Michigan originally attacked this new era of NIL. They spent big time but all on retention which allowed Harbaugh to do what he does best, develop.

It paid off in a championship for them. Not sure Miami has the staff to rely solely on development but keeping your top talent is key and then use the portal to fill gaps in missed recruiting areas.

FSU did the same they just forgot to recruit anyone after that. They paid Verse a ton to come back.

I was almost certain we would lose someone from the LB room. Glad that didn’t happen. We came off a good season. It ended horribly but still won 10 games. Maybe these kids are bought into what Mario is building and want to see it through for at least another year.

Horton & Aj Allen we’re Mistakes for the Value & talent They Provide the Team.
*We Now have A Need At Outside Reciever that the Portal has not have an Equal or Better.
* Allen Would have made Miami’s Top 3 Backs as good as any in the Nation. Combine with that O-Line .Would have Given Miami a dominant Run Game to
Complement Beck.

They really did. Twice as many were thinking about entering. Big credit to the staff, here. Now we have to get some of these portal kids signed. As we sit, I would guess we are a 9 win team. That isn't making the playoff. That of course is based on Beck staying healthy. Much like Cam last season. A kicker is also critical.,

We’ve done a good job since Mario got here I think

I’ll add decommitments to that mix as well. We really haven’t had many

Horton (WR) is the only one here that bothers me
Horton left before Beck signed. Riley Williams as well. The prospect of not having a viable starting quarterback may have contributed to their departures.

Disagree completely, Allan couldn’t block to save his life and Horton wanted wide receiver, one money when he is at Best nothing but a wide receiver two. Danielle’s will fill his role nicely this year. Just need a number three running back and one that can actually block.

That could be true but we’ve also seen guys re-enter the portal enough times to know if he really wanted to be here he could be

But to your point as great as it’s been us getting Cam and Beck the last two years….we gotta stop playing with the time line so much

Last year people claim it’s why we didn’t get Smith (I don’t believe it but still) and this year it may have cost us again

Luckily it worked out for us but the uncertainty when the portal opens is not good

100% agree that we’ve been fortunate at quarterback the last two years. Well at least last year and hopefully this year. The best thing that can happen this season outside of winning big is having Luke Nickel get enough garbage time to show he’s the real deal and not having to sign a one-year rental in the portal. Elite high school wide receivers and portal options will know Nickel is the starter in 2026 and a good one.

Regarding Jeremiah Smith, I’m sure a lot of factors played into his sticking with Ohio State. Maybe it was money. People have written he wanted to stay home and his family wanted him to stay home, but Miami was not the best business decision. I do think Miami’s quarterback situation didn’t help. Definitely a miss that will haunt us for many years.

All I know is that everything Mario does is painfully slow and deliberate

Sometimes I think it can be a benefit like retaining commitments and players. He doesn’t seem to take a commitment unless it’s as concrete as it can get and that’s good. Sometimes optics make it look like we are not making any moves. Like EVERY visit weekend people ***** about no commitments but that’s just not how we operate

The portal is not the time to be slow and deliberate though

The winter portal ended up being very good so no complaints there so we will see how this wraps up

Gotta give Mario credit.. he’s done a great job of that over his time here. We’ve never loss anyone that wasn’t replaceable imo.
Im not down on the team but Horton was a fcking huge loss. Hes going to be a real problem. he was just really starting to break out. He would have been our best wr and I dont think it would have been that close. I know we got some things we're trying to do and if either one happens this won't be a big topic . fingers crossed.

Allen can't be considered a mistake.

He wanted to be RB1 and dropped down to FIU to do so (and has since entered the portal again).
