Reports say Tate didn’t show for practice today

I hope he sticks it out. He’s a heartbeat away from being QB1 if he was going to be Qb2 of course . Nobody including him should lose site of that. As a team we need guys that are working their asses off to keep pressure on the starters.

If he wants to leave not losing any sleep over it. Hopefully Williams is the guy and Tate actually has already helped us.

Then by your own logic when JW15 had the same issues last year he shouldn’t be considered mentally tough or a team player either..... These are emotional kids we are talking about. But keep casting judgement!!! I hope for your own sake that nobody ever judges you in this manner!

I do buy that logic. But the difference is JW was an 18 year old TRUE Freshman, and for all intents in purposes wasn’t given a real chance to win the job (no first team reps, etc). He wasn’t given a chance to get reps or play in s game, even though our QB situation was precarious at best.

Tate, on the other hand, is 20-21 years old - 3rd year college player - and he could’ve easily be in the game 10 days from now if JW is injured. But now the players and coaches know this is a player that they might not be able to count on. His actions has all the earmarks of a guy that wasn’t “all-in” for the team, but rather “all-in” for himself.

He was brought in to LEAD the QB room by example and to teach those guys how to work, just like Osborn was brought in to lead the WR group. See the difference?

Stop making excuses for Tate.

Bottom line no one likes to lose, hope Perry doesn’t leave as well, I’m not confident in that OL right now to keep anyone healthy

Yep. Not a good look at all. I thought him more mature than this.

Listen kids eat 4 years of eligibility if he wants to peruse his dreams his best move us to transfer. Pretty simple. As fans you want a stable of great athletes ready to go but at the same time Diaz is looking to clean the program if anyone who isn’t ready for this heat

I have not been one to down talk Tate, but if this is true, why does he deserve a pass? It seems no matter what the case may be - his inaccuracy, inconsistency, this instance...which contradicts one of his supposed best traits (leadership) - it's assumed we should basically let it slide and even implement packages for him. Why? Because he was on TV & has a cute gf? If Tate had won the job, would people be saying Jarren or Kosi should still get packages? Or would they consider how adamant Manny has been about finding his guy and going with him. Realistically, I have a feeling Manny was thinking and hoping he was getting more of a quarterback in Tate, who checked all the boxes in what he wants from that position as far as work ethic, leadership, & playbook knowledge. In the end, he made the right call in letting their play determine the outcome.

Wait, what I thought he was such a leader!!! Never was sold on the kid!!! Give me Williams and Perry who had horrible coaching the past two years and the reason for their issues. Tate was at one of the top programs and was runnoff.

It really is pointless trying to guess. Some saying he trashed his locker? so what. You never see a pitcher get the hook after giving up a HR and go ham on his locker/dugout? Maybe he was heated and Manny told him not to come to practice. I am also not sure his dad reached out to other schools but even if he did, why not? If Jarren is the goods and he plays in mop up duty/ waiting on an injury to play the rest of his collegiate career you think he is getting drafted with almost zero film?

The only issues I have is 1. being a distraction so close to the gator. Maybe the team is good at blocking out the noise but they are college kids with access to the internet 2. if he did skip practice unexcused then it is a bad look and bad leadership but its punishment shouldnt be expulsion, and 3. if he does transfer I would not put it past the gator to reach out to him to try to get some terminology or insight.

The kid's been coddled and had his *** kissed since early high school days, so it's understandable that he would struggle with rejection of not being the man. That's ok. Hopefully, he'll suck it up and get his *** back at practice knowing it's a long season. But if a 24-hr cooling off period isn't the answer, then see you later, pal.

#3 is just too funny - maybe Florida will hire him as a special assignment coach for the Miami game or better yet maybe Mullen will hide him in the
Florida press box mic'ed up to Gresham on the sideline

I'm actually glad he (potentially) got ****ed and even tore into his locker. It means he actually gives a ****. Think of all the games where Miami gave up to way less talented teams the past decade or so. I'd take the frustration/freakouts from players giving it their all and coming up short over kids who fold when another team doesn't just lay down for them.

This is accurate & can be generally applied to recruiting in 2019. Tate just comes from a situation that magnifies that to another level. I'm fine that he took it hard. In fact, I like it. Kid is a competitor. No participation trophies here. Winners have to learn to lose, part of growing up. Hopefully he comes back today ready to grind, make his teammates better.. & be ready if the call comes.

It's a 2018 Perry-esque move, except that Perry has obviously matured.

Any program that brings him in has to know, for a fact, that he's their starter. Otherwise, they will be dealing with the same thing in a year. Not a good look for sure, but he has to leave if he wants to start.

Agree. Otherwise, like I have stated before, anyone who sulks and whines because they were passed over for the starting job, does not belong at this level.

Am I the only one that thinks Matocha has a good shot of contributing at a higher level than Martell in the next couple years? Maybe not early this season, but soon.
