REPORT: Miami HIRING Favien Upshaw at RB Coach

Yall forgot what we have coming back in that RB room ??!!
Buddy can work remotely and STILL be a top 10 position coach!
Great, but that's only part of the job. This is a big recruiting year for that position given who we'll lose after the season. He has really no recruiting experience and is going to have to produce pretty much immediate results in that aspect of the job.

Mario really is vengeful and petty. Da*m you NFL for taking my RB coach. Now I will take one of yours.

J/k of course. But what this tells me is that our methodical coach engages in an extremely thorough search. I am also 100% certain that none of us CIS college football experts had a clue who Favian Upshaw was as of February 25, 2026.

Maybe, just maybe, we will remember to leaving the coaching in the future to the people who are actually paid to coach because they have expertise in coaching and the greatest motivation to do well. That is until we lose a game and we all become smarter than the coach.
He seems decently regarded. If there’s one position I won’t lose a ton of sleep over it’s the RB coach. Especially considering the room we have coming back next year. Recruiting worries me but again, with Mario and our NIL and everything I’m not really stressing our ability to recruit that position. It’s not like we hired a quality control coach to coach the DL.

Why does everyone keep repeating that this upcoming HS RB class is a critical year? Lmao like if we don’t get a 5star RB the room is gunna be a disaster? Or that the key recruiting factor there won’t just be NIL like it was for the RBs this yr? lol but like we will lose Fletcher… nobody else in the rb room is some guarantee to leave next yr so I don’t see this “Critical” part of arb recruiting.. like what happens if we miss? We go and get a portal RB? …

I wouldn’t say this is a GOOD hire. It’s basically just an u known hire. We will see. Most of his “grade” will come down to getting the RB rotation right - but it’s tough to really get the rb room wrong this yr. So like we won’t even really know if this guy is actually doing all that much this yr.

RB coach is the least important coach on the team.

Recruiting ability is important but lets not kid ourselves. Money plays a huge factor in recruiting these days, this is the resume of Georgia's current running back coach and they got a commitment from Kemon Spell

So this guy was also interviewing for WR jobs?

Is that normal early in somebody's coaching career? And they just follow the path that has the most opportunities?

If you’ve heard the Scott Satterfield interview, he mentions Mario likes to meet a lot of coordinators and have his whole staff there so they can get Intel on how different coaches do different things.

Recruiting will always be something Mario pays attention to with his staff, but hiring a guy like this with no top-notch recruiting experience might signal that he values some of the development or scheme knowledge he’ll be bringing from that Sean Payton system.

Not saying he’s the next Joe Brady being a RB coach but don’t think it’s a coincidence he plucks someone from arguably the best offensive mind on the planets staff.
