Sam Leavitt To Sign With Lane Kiffin & LSU

As reported by ESPN, the top quarterback in the transfer portal, Sam Leavitt, is reportedly signing with Lane Kiffin and the LSU Tigers after visiting several other schools.

The news came from ESPN's Pete Thamel, who mentioned on Monday morning that Sam Leavitt is likely to choose the LSU Tigers over other schools like Miami, Kentucky, and Tennessee, where he also took visits.

During the 2024 season at Arizona State, he passed for more than 2,800 yards, threw 24 touchdowns with just six interceptions, and added over 400 rushing yards along with five rushing touchdowns. Even though his 2025 season was cut short by injuries, Leavitt remained effective. He threw for over 1,600 yards, completed 10 touchdown passes with only three interceptions, and rushed for an additional 300 yards and five touchdowns.

Now, Miami will need to focus on finding a new quarterback. Whoever they target, they will likely pursue hard after missing out on the top quarterback.

This situation is disappointing... But we’ll see who steps up next.

F.vck this guy.
Never wanted him anyway. Overrated bum.

Agree but there is a space between spending millions for HS QB and Judd Anderson.

It's not normal that you can't play any of the QBs you recruited from HS at the moment.
I agree with the first part of the statement. We should have at least gone after Bailey instead of Anderson. Made no sense. I don't think you want to ignore the position out of high school altogether.

But I still don't see any team that is thrilled with any of their quarterbacks recruited out of high school (Texas, Notre Dame and maybe Georgia are the exceptions).

This is not excuse-making, because Miami wanted him and thought he was coming as of Saturday.

But my personal opinion is that this kid is a disaster. Injured, inaccurate, and with red flags from here to Arizona. He would have been a bad pick.

The problem is we wanted him, and we don’t have a quarterback on January 12th. Not a good situation at the moment. Let’s see how it ends.
Agreed. Our room is unsettling. I think they just need to add a 5 star/4 star unproven talent in the room and see how it shakes out - Longstreet already in the portal but if not him, I'd start tampering and going after St. Clair (OSU) or someone who will not be starting and we can convince them to win the job.

This shouldn't be this hard with Cam Ward, Beck resurgence, and playing for a natty but it is.

At some point you have to roll with the kids you recruited out of HS or you’re never going to get decent QB recruits again. At that point your options become try to hope for the best available portal QB or get stuck with a 2nd rate portal QB.

Well it explained the crickets over the weekend. We are in the same exact position we were last year when we got the rabbit out of the hat. I am feeling desperate. Anyone who knows, we can't go into next season with this roster and our QB room. We are looking to the playoffs again, but not with this QB room. Buy-out money, boys. This is bad

USC
Tennessee offering big $ to Leavitt even though they have the #1 2025 HS qb
USC is maybe paying Maiava that now, but certainly didn't drop top of the line money for him when he transferred.

You are right about Tennessee, but Heupel needs a big season in 2026 very badly, so maybe not quite the same situation.

Does anyone in the building know if CJ Bailey is obtainable? Or has he signed some rec share contract? NC State roster is a complete mess

This is part of the game. LSU upped their bag and Miami didn’t match it. It is what it is.

I don’t mind this at all because I see lots of red flags but they need to close on another QB. TY or Mateer me.

In addition, Miami needs to be aggressive and fix the DL, LB and TE positions going into next season. Miami should be able to compete for a title next season if they can land the right pieces.

I'd be interested to know if we laid it on the line before Leavitt left & offered big $$$ or just kicked the tires.

Simpson seems like the obvious Mario play.

I didn't want this kid. The red flags were alarming. I was hoping he would not come here.

I've never been a huge fan. He's #105 on EPA/dropback. He's in the Becht, Lagway, Drones, Arnold neighborhood. Better than what we have, but he will get exposed in the SEC. I personally liked Raiola and Hoover. Would be thrilled with Simpson and pretty happy with CJ at this point if we can pull him into the portal.

The staff prioritized this "disaster." That is an epic fail on there end. Many knew, including yourself this dude and his camp were not a fit. He should have never been the top option. And now there isn't a single proven QB currently in the portal. We will now have to overpay for someone to jump in or flip. If we go into next season after this phenomenal run without a proven QB, we failed this process miserably.

I hope they now go after 1 guy that I know would come here, but the price just went up big time. Play with your food too often and **** like this will happen.
