Remembering Jerome Brown

As an eagles fan I got to watch two of the best , Jerome and Reggie. Reggie is the best DL I’ve ever seen , he could dominate inside or out but Jerome was coming. We had one of the best defenses in history after jeromes death , I can’t even imagine those defenses with him on the dl. He wasn’t close to his prime when he passed , it could’ve been really scary.

What could have been, I think a lot of people forget he was going to be a part of that line. I remember Golic, who was also on that squad, talking about Reggie one day on the radio and brought up Jerome and said he was the best DT he’s seen. When I think of “swag” I always think of JB. Says whatever he wants and then proceeds to do whatever he wants on the field.

Reggie was like watching a god at de, he made pro bowl ol look like children. He’d literally take one arm and fling them like luchadore wrestlers lol. Then would blow by them the next play. Jerome wasn’t as strong but his speed at that size made no sense. I’ve been lucky , between watching the canes in the 80’s-90’s and those eagles defenses. I’ve seen a lot of greatness.

So for a younger guy like myself I love hearing about the OGs who came before especially on the DL that I never had a chance to watch.

I know this question is going to be up for debate but can you or someone else give me a genuine eval on Jerome Brown/Russel Maryland/ Cortez Kennedy. Play style? Who was more dominant? 1tech/3tech? Today's comparison?

With all due respect to other great Canes DTs who are all in the HOF, I agree that Jerome Brown was one of the greatest DTs to ever play the game of football. JB was strong as an ox, fast as a rabbit, graceful as a deer, the heart of a lion and mean as a Tasmanian devil. You line up with him on your team, and you should feel confident that you can shut your opponent down. He unleashes 100% **** on every play. Opposing offensive linemen knew that when they lined up against JB, they will get embarrassed, it’s just a matter of trying to keep the embarrassment to a minimum.

players like JB Can absolutely change your entire defense

These guys were absolutely dominant. Maryland was the 1st overall pick in the draft, Kennedy the 3rd, and Brown the 9th in their respective drafts. Today they would be considered 3T but back then they probably lined up in multiple spots and could do that in today’s game. Size, strength, quickness, technique...they had it all.

Today’s comparison, think how Suh destroyed people at Nebraska and took over games. Super rare talents.

Get this man in the HALL!

Legend for so many reasons. On and off the field. I love the story of him stopping a KKK rally in his hometown all by himself with his speakers in his ride.

JB was Sapp before Sapp.

Man we had some all time greats at the DT position. Wish we could get back to that formula; inside-out.

JB was on his way to the HOF, man. Dude was becoming unstoppable at DT w Philly. Believe he made back to back PBs and 1st Team All Pro before he tragically passed, IIRC.

100% agree. Reggie was the greatest DE & DT ever IMO. Would've been SCARY to see him paired with an in-prime JB. JB would've been an HOF lock...
