I found it interesting that we have the 9th hardest remaining schedule in the country, when you consider upcoming opponent rankings and adjusted for home/away. And we've already played 3 teams who are 11-1. Kind of crazy to me that we could wind up having one of the hardest schedules in the country, I certainly didn't think that'd be the case in the off-season and also with how awful the ACC seems to be.

So, for those of you who want Manny canned yesterday and who think he has no shot of doing anything positive here, the next few weeks should do him in. And for those of you who think that, provided he turn it around and reel off a bunch of wins, it would save his job and potentially prove he's not a complete lame duck, doing so against the 9th hardest schedule should provide some optimism. Contrary to popular belief, he's still the coach, so this chapter is yet to be written officially. The next 5 weeks will make or break him, IMO. (I know, I know, he's already broken. We get it). UVA, UNC, NC State, Pitt, and GT. Starting with UVA......wow, is their defense terrible. Worse than ours, if you can believe it (and they haven't played Alabama). I take absolutely nothing from the High School game we played Saturday, and neither should anyone else. But a step in the right direction on offense and possibly a glimmer of hope that one of the young QBs might actually be able to win some games for us would be to come out and put 450+ yards on UVA on Thursday night. Their defense is so, so, so, so bad. Check out these ranks:

Scoring defense -- 109th (36.7 PPG allowed)
Total defense -- 120th (7.05 YPP allowed)
Rushing defense -- 114th (237 YPG allowed), also 120th in YPC allowed at 5.97. 6 yards per carry allowed!
Passing defense -- 98th (266 YPG allowed), also 102nd in YPA allowed and 107th in passer rating allowed
TFLs -- 111th (4 per game)
Sacks -- 104th (1.33 per game)
First downs allowed -- 119th (26.3 per game)
3rd down conversions allowed -- 112th (48.78%)

These numbers are from their 3 FBS games, Illinois, UNC, and Wake. UNC definitely has an explosive offense as we know, but Wake and Illinois do not. So they literally do nothing well. They suck at every single aspect of playing defense. Can our offense put up some fireworks? Or will we still be stuck in the mud?

Their 247 reporter said the key is getting ahead of them and putting pressure on their O. That while good, the QB can’t do it all and that was the success UNC and WF ultimately had. Also seemed to have a player or two banged up. Not sure if they’ll be back for Thursday.

Admittedly I haven't followed much of CFB outside of Miami this season, but if UVA's defense is really that bad, Thursday night should be very telling. If we're not able to move the ball and put up points against them, even with a freshman QB, we're probably going to struggle against everyone else on our schedule.

I think we have adequate talent at the skill positions but our OL recruiting and development has been a mess for way too long.

Agree with this completely. As bad as we've been, and this is no excuse whatsoever, but at least we've played some defenses who are somewhat talented and fundamentally sound. Bama is Bama, Michigan State has held all 4 of their opponents to 21 points or less, and App State is decent.

If we bang our head into the wall against UVA the same way we have against the other 3 teams, we're liable to honestly go something like 6-6. Because the defense isn't going to be good enough to win games 21-20. We need to score points to win, just like pretty much everyone does in 2021 with how wide open the game has become. If we score 23 points or something in this game and have 350 yards of offense, win or lose, this already long year is going to get much longer before it's over, IMO.

I saw this and said to myself we’ve got nothing but ACC games left and that’s the 9th toughest schedule? What are they seeing that I don’t?

Agree, I was shocked too, as I said. But 6 of the 8 teams ahead of us are SEC teams, so that makes sense. Is anyone else really good? There just aren't a lot of good teams this year, it seems. The ACC is comically terrible, but so is everyone else really outside of the SEC.

That schedule ain’t sh*t if we were where we’re supposed to be but for a manny Diaz corched team it’s murderer’s row , no way he doesn’t get out of there alive

What is this sos based on? Current records, computer rankings? If it’s based on this year, it will change weekly based on records

Until Miami's OFFENSIVE offensive line drastically IMPROVES. Your glimmer of hope is just pizzing in the wind. Or is that reaching in the dark for a ray of hope. But I agree with you about Miami's next four conference opponents. Because mighty Virginia, Sky Blue Carolina, Pittsburgh and NCST, ALWAYS bring their A+ game against Miami: and they play with 110% EFFORT! Peace.

I’m just curious that with as bad as the UVA defense is on paper, how will our D stack up by the end of the game. Also, looking at the numbers and the 230+ yards that they give up a game and few sacks and tackles for loss, how much will our O Line give them. Can we make big enough holes for Cam, Cody and Thad (plus Rooster is back) to run through? Or are we the first team to barely break 100 on the ground versus them?

For the record, I would love nothing more than to destroy them on offense as I believe that some of our quit on Defense is attributable to our offense not being competent enough to keep the D off of the field. Mix in the pace of the plays and it’s feast or famine. Regardless, I’m looking forward to some Thursday night entertainment.

I’ll say this. UVA like UNC has traditionally been a pain in our *** since coming to the ACC. Doesn’t matter how good or bad we are they seem to be one of those “teams”
Idk why but people in this forum seem to forget easily. We shoot ourselves in the foot way too many times in games. Either by going up the wrong gap, targeting, stunting the Dline too many times, blitzing, penalties, Oline can’t block etc. All this together turns into a s$$t show. Are we more talented than UVA m? **** yeah. But we aren’t a better team. Our defense is terrible and our offense is terrible. That’s a problem.
