Reilly Gibbons to Stanford

I want to wait and see on LOI day, but this is getting sickening
Powell - I think he used things as an excuse, so I don't blame staff 100%
Valentine - most of us knew he was gone, but it hurts, so some on staff for not making him stick
Bethel - the staff acts like he is no loss, but one can never have enough DBs, nickel and dime packages against spreads are huge
staff 75%

losing out on locals, and the list is long also hurts
staff 65% (35% b/c of local agents)

this is just a **** sandwich now
if we don't land JC, another DT of quality, and one/two more quality cats at WR, DB or OL - we crawled to the finish

Pete, I don't know if you can answer this question or not, but internally, do some feel that Golden has mentally "checked out" of Miami because he had his heart set on the Penn State gig and didn't get it?

Has nothing to do with him "checking out". He is who is.

Pete,

This is probably a really stupid question, so I apologize in advance. But with us losing five (?) recruits since Al flirted with PSU and it seeming unlikely that we have any pleasant surprises looming for NSD, do you think we'll fill spots with low upside JAGs that will make everyone furious or will we save several scholies as a result of the 9 over 3 NCAA ruling and hope to bounce back next year?

I highly doubt Pete has a chair at the coaches table when they discuss those type of decisions! Hey Pete, do you think we're going to run or pass on the first play next year?

LOL

Don't do it man dont. Let them sleep

Lol at the people saying you can't pass up a chance at a Stanford education like Miami is a **** school. GTFOH

I AM blaming the kid for fcking us at the 11th hour. But unless this kid had his sights set on being a pro football player, getting a degree from Stanford is a golden ticket. A full ride to Stanford, if you actually care about education and a degree is pretty hard to pass up.

Read the **** article. Kids father is gushing about the Stanford education and what an opportunity that is. He barely mentioned football as a reason the kid flipped.

You're a massive joke.

Lol. Ok. Real talk. I did the same thing this kid did. So go cry that bull sht to someone else. I got offered a **** nice package to go to a top school and took it and bolted Miami, despite having taken classes at UM having friends there and having a pretty nice offer from them.

Weren't many people who thought I was crazy or wrong for going where I went which is somewhat on par with Stanford.

Dawg, I like you..but you gotta stop at this point. You have to realize there's something very wrong here. You're not a dummy, either lose the shtick or wake up.

Dude Im not sitting here making excuses for the staff, or saying this doesnt suck. It does. And this kid really f*cked us over big time. Hope to **** the staff has a back up plan for something like this, because that will tell the tale as to how organized these guys are.

All I said was at the end of the day, if a kid doesnt think he's going to be an NFL player, getting a full ride to Stanford is pretty hard to pass up if you are serious about academics and your degree. People laughed at that saying all this sh*t about how its laughable that you would pass up Miami to get a degree from Stanford. I did something very similar. Most of my family are UM grads. Tons of friends. I spent half of HS at UM frat parties and on campus. Took classes there. Season tickets and lived for the Canes since I moved to Miami when I was young, had a pretty good Scholie to UM, but got a similar one from a school on par with Stanford, and I took it. And not ONE person I know thought I was crazy. Every single person I knew agreed it would have been nuts NOT to take the other offer. So I can kind of relate to what would make a kid take a ride to Stanford over UM. The timing is a kick in the b#lls, and honestly, if it was to go to FSU or some bullsh*t like that, I would agree this fits in with the other decommits and flips that reflect bad on the staff's recruiting. But honestly, how many cats are going to pass up a degree from Stanford if you care about school and not the NFL?

I haven't had it with the staff. Coley is the one keeping this class somewhat relevant, though.

Heh. Yeah, 'crootin's got me asking the dumbest questions imaginable. I need to sit the next couple plays out.

Because when a kid has been committed for 9 months+ I expect them to sign with us. Idc that gibbons said it has nothing to Miami. If you told Gibbons a good enough pitch, he would've said no to Stanford because it was too late and he would've signed with Miami.

Are his parents lawyers or something along those lines?
I don't think a "pitch" would have kept him committed to UM.
Basically, he is going to a better school, academically, and right now their football program is superior to ours.
No brainer.
I do agree it's still a byitch move to do this late in the recruiting cycle, especially if our coaches didn't
know they took the visit to Stanford.

So the parents were going force him to Stanford? In that case why didn't he go to Duke which was one of his finalists?

Stanford has a better team than us and Duke. That obviously had to play in to his decision

But if the move was solely on education he would've taken duke for the jump. Regardless I'm just ****ed off at our recruiting down the stretch and how people justify every **** loss

Agreed. People have a ready made a excuse for every kid we lose. Then turn around and crown the staff for bringing in 3 star kids from up north playing against teams who wouldn't make pop warner teams in South Florida.

Burgess and Ridley said quit your whining about a three star o-linemen. The class of the decade starts tomorrow!

Where is CAPS to tell me how thankful we should all be that Golden didn't bolt to PSU?

Setting aside the education aspect, losing an offensive tackle to Stanford is equivalent to losing a defensive tackle to LSU. Stanford plays gorgeous straight ahead football. The kid knows exactly what he'll be asked to do, tons of drive blocking.

For all the conventional wisdom that Stanford would decline once Harbaugh left, it's been exactly the opposite. Their recruiting has expanded, particularly at offensive line. Last year they plucked two highly rated kids from USC in the final days.

If Stanford is after you to play offensive tackle in the late going, my instinct is that Gibbons is very, very good, probably understated.

Low expectations has its benefits. As long as we're in this stadium I expect to run second quite often among the late deciders. That atmosphere simply isn't college football. Stanford tore down an old stadium and built a more cosy one. Both were on campus.

Lol

While I think 2015 skill position will be loaded, I do not think we will be able to bring in the Dline we need.

If you are making more excuses as to why Golden didn't fail yet again, do us all a favor and go **** yourself.

At least he did didn't flip to some moron school like FSU and claim he was interested in education.

Thought the kid was solid as a rock. Did he take a secret trip to Cali?

the only way. His family stressed academics once Stanford came along he probably took a secret trip

Stanford is the only school I can see losing a recruit to, and thinking, "I can understand that."

One of the top academic schools in the world and it has a top athletic program.
Plus Palo Alto is not Fayetteville Arkansas.

Good luck to him.

Dude as Pete has also said, I dont think the staff cared about Bethel leaving. That is a classic "Edouard" type issue. Just like the Noles did to CJ Worton. Kid commits early, and then we pretty much just didnt recruit him much. Had he gone to FSU or some other big program, you can say our staff blew it and he was stolen. Kid went to TTU because he got the hint that he wasnt really "wanted" very much here.

Powell I agree with you.

Yeah, because our class was so spectacular when we fired Shannon right? Look how awesome Vandy's class is looking right now with their HC gone.

Did you not remember the comments from the kids post that mess? A number pretty much said they would have decommitted or thought about decommitting.
