Stanford has a new commitment. Now headed to play for the Cardinal is three-star offensive tackle Reilly Gibbons (St. Petersburg, Fla./Catholic). David Shaw and the Stanford staff flipped Gibbons from the University of Miami this weekend.
“Reilly has de-committed from Miami and is now officially committed to Stanford,” said his father Shannon Gibbons.”

Gibbons, 6-foot-6, 290-pounds, has been a long time pledge to the Hurricanes. His change of heart had nothing to do with Al Golden, the Miami program or the school itself. Gibbons just couldn’t pass on the Stanford education.

“Miami is a great school with great coaches,” Gibbons said. “It had nothing to do with them. Miami didn’t do anything wrong. It came down to getting a Stanford education and playing some great football out here in the Pac 12. Stanford has a wonderful program. It was Reilly’s decision and he really thought it through. Miami is a great place but he just couldn’t pass up on Stanford.”

Gibbons is out on an official visit to Stanford this weekend along with his father. It’s their second trip out to Palo Alto. He has notified the Miami coaching staff of his decision.

“He notified coach [Art] Kehoe and let him know,” Gibbons said.

Gibbons is the No. 29 ranked offensive tackle in the nation. He’s a converted tight end. Gibbons made the transition almost two years ago and saw his stock sky rocket this past spring. He had offers from teams coast to coast before committing to Miami back in April.

Seriously, only this board would throw out the "how could you blame him" line. Really, just shut it down.

Gibbons was a nice player but if there was one 4 star guy we could afford to lose, it was him.

McDermott and Darling are going to be All- Americans.

And really people. The kid is a 3 star OT who would be squarely behind Flowers, KC McDermott and Trevor Darling. A kid needs a chance to shine and they churn out NFL lineman st Stanford now with that scheme.

You guys screamin bloody murder are hilarious on this one. I'll rant with ya about a local stud...but this is Reilly Freakin Gibbons! I'm sure they can grab someone to fill this slot. Odugwu? Freakin Alex Gall was the 17th ranked OT by Scout.com last year...Gibbons was 29TH! TWENTY NINTH!!!

I don't usually bag on kids, but this is a **** move. By the kid and his parents. A family of ****es.

And our staff is an embarrassment to cluster****s all around the globe.

I have no problem with any kid picking duke or Stanford over miami. But the family kept saying reilly was solid the whole time and wouldn't take visits anymore. More disappointed in our staff than the kid. I understand how great the education is, but it was just a shady move.

Why disappointed in the staff if his family said he was solid and not taking anymore visits?

Because when a kid has been committed for 9 months+ I expect them to sign with us. Idc that gibbons said it has nothing to Miami. If you told Gibbons a good enough pitch, he would've said no to Stanford because it was too late and he would've signed with Miami.

My guesses are 1) maybe he didn't want to play guard since McDermott and Darling are projected to play tackle and 2) the canoodling Al did with PSU made him and his family upset. Either way, he is still leaving the 'Harvard of the South'.

Every time there is a decommitment, I just don't understand the group of people who justify it. Bethel is the only one where people shouldn't have been upset or finding an excuse for.

Half of yall forgot about Gibbons and now that he's leaving it's a freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee fffffffffffaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllll.... lulz at yall

This is exactly why I gave up on recruiting. It's BS. No point in following recruiting all year just for this.

A month ago all i wanted was to retain the class... couldn't even have that.

******* terrible last month of recruiting.
