Regionals Discussion (Outside of Miami)

That is 100% the right call and should have been called on the spot. People may not like it. But by definition that’s the rule. “Malicious content” supersedes the obstruction. Every team should practice this/know this…but it’s an iq play and travel ball could care less about that.
Well that’s a dumbass definition and rule if that’s the case.

Obstruction caused the collision at the plate. Where in the **** was the kid supposed to slide?? Furthermore… anyone with a hint of common sense knows and sees there was nothing malicious about it. The kid pulled up. If it was malicious that catcher would be bloodied and out for the year. And to think the duck is suspended the next game… for that?!?

NCAA gon NCAA. Criminals.

Is that reviewable? He’s literally shying away from the contact and basically just falling into him by the time they actually collide.

I think it’s because he didn’t really attempt a slide. In reality, a slide might have injured both of them more than the collision, but in theory, if he slides into the catcher and is blocked from the plate, the catcher gets called for obstruction.

Personally. I think I’d prefer getting knocked over like that (kinda minor collision) over getting spiked in the legs.

It’s a rule they look at every year…just like the HBP rules and they never seem to get a “here’s the rule but their is some wiggle room”

We used to work on rolling into any pitch inside…it looks like you are getting out of the way but you are really getting bigger to get hit. Free bases when you need runners.

Where was he supposed to slide? lol just give them an out sliding around the plate. I’d lose my mind if that’s called on my team

If he legally slides and doesn't make it to the plate, I think the catcher gets called for obstruction. It's like the rules now for helmet to helmet contact. Going to have a lot of questionable calls but the general idea is a good one- protect players from getting seriously injured.

I don't know what you would teach a runner in that situation, I guess to start sliding if he sees the catcher blocking the plate. Any type of collision where the runner isn't clearly attempting to slide could get called that way. I guess the only way to know is to see a similar situation where a runner slides and gets stopped short, and whether the umps actually call obstruction. If they do, then the rule would sort of make more sense because players would know what they need to do.

This is why I think they ruled the way they did and because his arms came up slightly on contact. But, it was a horrible overturn IMO given that the ball was already at the back screen.

Is "malicious" defined?
I didn't see malicious intent or content.

This one fits the bill:

College baseball is the Best tournament in sports

Agree, but to me it was even better when in the Omaha College Series it was single bracket.
You basically played every day until you had two teams left to play for the one game championship.
It was fun for us fans but probably a nightmare for the coaches, especially the guys in charge of the pitchers.

Carolina’s luck has to run out soon. FSU, Clemson and now OU. These guys are gifted more unearned runs than anybody I’ve ever seen.

6 unearned in the first.

This Meyer kid with the ear rings on WVU has some electric stuff.

97-99 with a wipe out slider in the upper 80s.

Update: went off the rails in the 9th and they won’t pull him.
