Reflections of a Legend...

From the comments made here, I am wondering if majority really watched the game? Bottom line, Wisconsin made the plays with their physical brand...OL and front 7 on defense. CMR, Diaz, and entire coaching staff is not the problem! The mixture of what was left on the roster and their 2016 and 2017 recruiting classes are the byproduct of "not elite" to play against a sound and discipline program. Let's give it time before we write off who is the blame.

We are what we see on tape and on game day! Let's stop overlooking the facts: Depth, talent, and football IQ! Just because the current players are wearing the "U" doesn't mean they are better, especially when the system does not have roots. The Canes are building, and the storm is forming! The playmakers are coming, and watch the difference in 2019.

Like I mentioned in another post, great coaches are blessed with depth, talent, and position IQs. I read about the Baylor and Oregon coaches offensive schemes, but neither have won a championship. CMR did not make the throws nor did Diaz caused Shaq to drop the possible "pick 6". Rumph does not need to tell a DB to turn his head when it is taught in HS! Wisconsin's QB would not make those down the field throws without holding our DEs.

My only problem as a former QB, why our QBs are not able to make play changes without looking over at the bench? Football IQ? Georgia freshman QB was a master against Oklahoma. UCF QB killed Auburn! Give me a smart and accurate QB, and I will win a conference championship ever year. Nothing against Kaaya, Rosier, Morris, or Harris...but QB play impacts everything, include a good defense.

Wisconsin made their plays tearing up our secondary. Their running game was pedestrian.

Always funny to see a "Do you guys even watch the games?" condescending diatribe reveal that the poster either didn't watch the game or didn't know what he was looking at.

It’s like there’s a cliche playbook the message board dolts go to.

As documented, "Always funny to see a do you guys even watch the games? Condescending diatribe reveal that the poster either didn't watch the game or didn't know what he was looking at".

I am sorry you took my comments, which are my opinion personal! The facts do hurt the truth about who we are as a program in 2017. I thought Canes played great this year, but I would not overlook talent, depth, and football IQ to blame coaches. Great year in 2017! QB playing his first full season; DBs playing together in first season; LB unit still very young; and no RB depth! Now, evaluate football IQs at each position! Talent alone will get expose in college and professional ranks. To be elite = Talent + IQ!

Schematic reference IQ system to offset talent and depth offensively or expose weakness from a defensive perspective! Coaching staff can be limited by personnel's ability. To run a spread offense, the QB must be very accurate and have high IQ on decision-making. To run the ball effectively, the OL must be physical at the point of contact (leverage and power). Basically, we had an above average offense and good defensive unit...not elite.

Rosier will be a much better QB next year, the young LBs will be juniors, and the majority of the starters will be back. IQ comes from experience! The OL and DL will be stronger and physical. Finally, the staff will be able to develop...rather then expose a player who is not ready...yet!

It mind blogging people actually think this defense improved.

Don't give me stats. When you WATCHED our defense was it comparable with Alabama or Clemson's? Because that was the level we thought we would see going into the year. I WATCHED Bethune and Toledo carved up this defense and dude out here saying we improved? I guess y'all must be talking about Miami of Ohio because y'all can't be watching the same thing I'm watching. Why would you even think we improved? because of turnovers? Okay, let this trend continue in terms of yardage given up and lets see us get 29 turnovers again next year.

It also BAFFLING people are blaming the offense for the Wisky game. 24 points is enough to beat Wisconsin if your defense is good. PERIOD.

if Rosier is starting next year we are in deep doo doo.

The bowl game was painful to watch. When you recruit better than your opponent, you should beat your opponent, and that's especially true when you're playing them at home. They showed a graphic at one point where we have a boatload of 4 star guys on our team, and Wisconsin has something like 4.

Tip your cap to Chryst and Leonard. Chryst is low-key a top 5 HC in college football. They flat out took inferior material and beat us. They did a much better job than Rick and Diaz did.

They took a dude a kid Van Ginkel from Iowa Western, who nobody wanted, and turned him into a guy who was all over the field making huge football plays. Meanwhile, we have guys who are talking about going to the NFL early, and I don't think I saw them doing anything all night.

Our QB is bad, but so is theirs. You wouldn't have known it though watching the game. Diaz turned another bum QB into Joe Montana. For all the bathwater Diaz and his minions inhaled last year, he got worked this year. Switch jerseys for Rosier and Hornyfacquit, and they find a way to win with Rosier. And our fans would be killing Hornyfacquit the same way we are Rosier. Has anyone watched Benkert since he destroyed us? VT and Navy made him look like Kurt Benkert.

We are going to need to keep signing 4 and 5 stars, and I hope we tweak our staff a little. When we hired Rick some of us knew what we were getting. We were getting an excellent man, an experienced leader, and a proven 9 or 10 game winner. We needed a rock steady hire like him to right the ship that was pretty much sunken. Now, we need him to make some tweaks to his approach and his staff, and the 10th assistant will give him that chance.

We are a spread team, and we should be able to run the ball very well from the spread with the guys we have. That's not Rick's background though, and he could use a lot of help there. We need to hire an offensive whiz to help us with our spread rushing attack. The best in the business was Fart Briles. But he ran a rape house at Baylor, so there's no chance there. His son Kendall just set a bunch of records in 1 year at FAU, and he would DESTROY people with our talent. I know it's pie in the sky stuff because Rick might have too much ego, but I'd make a run at Kendall, and let him call plays.

Rick wants to coach, so he can coach the QBs full time. Let his son be the co-QB coach and learn the spread concepts under Briles. Then when Briles eventually moves on Jon can do what Rick probably intends for him to do--be the OC.

I'd tweak the D staff too. No need for 2 DB coaches, especially if they both have intern-level coaching experience. We need another monster recruiter on this staff. Can't afford to have a guy who only coaches CBs, if his CBs can't turn around and make plays on the football, and he can't recruit. You can't have your CBs getting worked by midget freshman WRs from Wisconsin. They lost their best WR too, but you wouldn't know it. His gig should depend on what we do with the AH 4.

I agree with your initial premise that when you recruit better you should beat your opponent. One factor that is super important however is, yes we have recruited better than, say Wisconsin. But not on the O-Line. Our strength is recruiting the skill players. Not in the trenches. And if there is a position that takes more time to develop it is O-Line, follwed by DT. Miami, although we are a National brand, has been mediocre the last 12 years prior to CMR. So we are simply not going to be getting O-Linemen from outside Florida, or elite linemen from outside South Florida maybe until 2019. That is a hugh factor. And maybe the most important one. Also, after 2 years, we still do NOT have the depth needed to compete at an elite level. Having said that, I agree with most of your other points. And yes, our coaching while pretty good at developing players, may be lacking still on game day.

A majority of Miami fans dont want to hear that Richt/Diaz were out schemed and out coached.

These same fans also dont want to hear Wisconsin has less talent than Miami.

They want Rosier to be the scapegoat. Blame the refs, blame the depth, blame inexperience.

The majority of fans realize it's all those things.

Defense goes out and puts opposing offense in bad yardage situations on 1st and 2nd down like you draw it up. Then turn right around and let the offense carve em up like butter on 3rd and long.

I bet if you look at the numbers coming out of HS, we have recruited better on the OL too overall. They played better on the OL, but that's not the point I was making.

the Miami vs said opponent recruiting class argument is moot the last 10 years due to the amount of attrition and poor player evaluations leading to those classes being a shell of what they were on signing day

If you look at history Texas signs more 5 stars than anyone with the exception of Bama. How come they haven’t been relevant for some years now? Look at USC and Michigan **** Michigan hasn’t beaten Ohio State in how long?

Having great Xs and Os is not needed with every assistant. You can have some where they are better recruiters. However coaching is becoming more important now than ever. FSU had way better recruiting classes than Miami every year. How come they also lost to us every year back in the day with those stellar recruits?

I don't subscribe to juju, but cannot help but notice that we've lost 3 in a row since that sideline reporter wore the (players' only) turnover chain.

It was total bs and infuriating that Richt allowed it. I think Joe Rose on WQAM talked to one of the coaches early in the season about wearing it and was told it was only for the players and no one else would be allowed to wear the chain.

Then someone in the AD department or on Richt's staff sold out and let some chucklehead from espn put it on. Juju is a real thing- the chain was more than a gimmick, it was special for the players because to get it you HAD to make a big play on the field. When they saw a sideline reporter wearing it, the chain lost its mystique and just became a prop.

It as always a prop, but yes, the mystique had worn off. It'll be interesting to see what develops next year with the chain. I sincerely doubt it's going to have the same effect. I think Manny Diaz will have to conjure some Santeria for next year's defense.
