Reflecting On This Season

When I heard his interviews at Oregon it was the same no BS approach, and he rebuilt that team.

Oregon was only 3 seasons removed from being 13-2 and ranked #2 in the country. Taggart won 3 more games than Helfrich in his last season. Cristobal took over a 7 win team from Taggart and kept the OC and DC. Mario won 9 in his first full season, which is two more than his predecessor. In other words, Taggart improved Oregon more in his first season than Cristobal did. So Taggarts "rebuild" - taking a 4 win Oregon team and winning 7 in his first season PLUS hiring the OC and DC for Cristobal played a part in Mario's "rebuild."

If Mario had been forced to hire a brand new OC and DC, I think there is a decent chance it would have turned out like it has for us - the first season would have been abomination as he tried to force Oregon to be "tuff and fisical" overnight. Fortunately for him (and Ducks fans), he had an OC /DC combo already in place that allowed a more gradual transition. By year 3 he had recruited enough of his own type of players that he could replace the coordinators without it wrecking the program. If he'd had tried to do at Oregon what he's done here - force square pegs into round holes, he'd be an OL coach somewhere right now or updating his resume to join the Secret Service.

I am not confident we will be better next year if this staff is the same. I see QBs leaving, and not because they suck or are lazy. It's going to be brutal around here if he doesn't make real changes on O. No one is going to want to play in this O. Not our current players, and certainly not prized recruits. How many years of recruiting is it going to take, when half the kids he brings in jump ship? The transfer portal giveth, and taketh away. He needs to coach his way out of this mess. A mess that he has made worse.

He is NOT nuking it on purpose. Fact is he's a crappy game day coach. He can't win with the talent he has and is selling us a load of crap that we just need his recruits. Look no further than a year ago when Utah was beating him down, with his recruits. They out recruited Utah by a wide margin, so why did they get whooped so badly, twice? Coaching. He got his Big Manny @SS outcoached. It will be a recurring theme wherever he goes. He's a good recruiter, not a good coach.

Sure, we might see some improvement over complete dog crap, but we will never win titles with a man that can't coach the talent he has.
he beat Utah the year before. In his last year at Oregon he was plagued by injuries with Anthony Brown as his QB. He checked out after the OSU win mainly because he reached out to Miami . He still won 10 games.

cribby already referenced losing current commits (which has been the only positive thing this year - the ability to sell what has been a **** product) if the current staff is retained. I dont see any way how the current staff and model comes back in tact. the schedule is tougher next year and I dont think ruiz or any big booster signed up for three 4-6 win seasons in a row.

if he checked out on the current season then thats a failure and gross move by a HC esp since he was actively recruiting for Oregon in season.

Oregon has always been plagued by injuries under Mario. they got healthy this year after the old staff is gone.

bo nix was trash at AU. he was transformed and is having his best year ever under lanning and Oregons offense has never been this explosive under Mario.

And repeat it every year, claiming we just need more of Mario's talent in here. Then, when we still suck with a roster full of his players, then what? We have seen this movie before. It was Coker's kids, then Shannon's kids, then Golden's kids, then Richt's kids, and now Manny's kids. Maybe we need to hire a **** coach that can coach these young men and get the most out of them, not have the built in excuse of the previous coaches' players sucking.
Look was a disaster year 1 .. so give me a name who can fix this..
lol

Read my post again was a terrible first year effort.. this year is actually his first class.. the season needs to end ..move on hopefully acquire a lot of transfers that can actually play

Now we know to take all off season reports of the team improving with a grain of salt lol we had to much hope for the season we all drink the kool aid and wasn’t expecting a season like this..

That's the whole point. We have players that can play, as evidenced by our run to end last season. Moving the goalposts for every new coach does nothing but give that coach an excuse. This season we sucked, and it was NOT all on the players. Our coaches don't mesh with each other or the players. This whole thing is one overpriced disaster, and there are no excuses. There is a reason, though. This staff is not as good as we hoped. Period. Another recruiting class isn't going to help. How many recruiting classes do we need to beat MTSU and Duke? Much less, Clemson, FSU, or anyone with a **** pulse.

We lost a tough game last year at FSU that we should have won with the same so called inferior talent. We got stomped out of our own packed house in prime time with many of those same players. The difference? Coaching staff, not players. So, you want to blame those players, many of which either beat or played FSU **** tough every other year they've been here? No way. This game, and every other, has been lost due to **** poor coaching. That **** poor coaching will lead to losses down the road, even with more talent on the roster. In fact, it will make it that much more intolerable.

By the way, Duke had a worse team, and a new coach, yet still whooped Mario. How many 5 stars does this fool need to beat Duke?

Sorry to say but living on the west coast, that Oregon team has much more talent and toughness than Miami. And also Mario lost to a very good Utah team that is very well coached. The second loss it was out of the bag that Mario was gone. Oregon tried to keep Mario knight included. He parted ways with dignity and class and left Oregon loaded with an attitude of toughness and a team will to win.

Lol @ Blaming a 40+ pt home loss on Manny's "soft players." In Diaz's first year, the team beat FSU easily, then they dropped 50+ on FSU the following year at Doak, and last year they were one 4th and 13 away from Diaz having a perfect record as a HC against FSU.

If blaming Diaz and/or the players for Cristobals inability to coach or gameplan makes you feel better, then cope away.
Diaz had a much better team last hear and got dominated until late. One of the few games where TVD was average to below average. Thats with his players playing their heart out for him. The 52-10 win? Travis first start. Couldnt even throw the ball that game and was laughed off. Jacurri Brown looked all ACC compared to him that game.

This last game? TVD played 13 snaps. 4 out of 5 starting OL were out. And the team quit on the first PI of the game. It's almost like we got Progressively worse with Manny to the point that we hit rock bottom.

Our players suck. They know our coaches know they suck. They resent that, because Mario is not buddy buddy. They are ready to hit the portal and be done with this season. Then so be it. We will most likely finish 4-8. This will be his worst year here.

Now can we be honest and say that the Gattis hire was horrible? Sure it was. And it will be up to Mario to fix
that in the off season. But please some context on the Manny Diaz praise vs FSU. What he inherited and played against is very different to what Mario inherited and the FSU today which played Clemson to a TD. We laughed at Norvell for being a corch and losing to J state and scrub teams and in year he has improved that team from a 4-8 type to a possible 8-9 win team. Thats without Marios recruiting or resources. Which is why I have full confidence that things will start trending in a positive direction next year.

But again he needs to hit on the OC.

Progressively worse is winning 6 of 7?

Here's the last 6 games

Win over then #18 NC St, who ended up finishing 9-3 and winning the acc Atlantic

Road win over then #17 Pitt, who ended up finishing 11-3 and the ACC champs.

Win over GT

3 pt road loss to FSU when they converted a 4th and 13.

Win over VT

Annihilated Duke in their stadium.

You consider that finish to the season - a run that included back to back wins over a top 20 team- as "hitting rock bottom?"

And what amazingly talented roster did Diaz inherit? Both Diaz and Cristobal took over 7 win teams. Difference is Diaz still managed to make a bowl game in his first season and even beat a top 25 ranked team in his terrible inaugural season as a HC ( a season that was so unexpectedly dismal that many fans said Diaz should have been fired after his first year). Chances are slim to none that UM wins another game this year.

like I said his players played their hearts out for him. They are clearly not playing hard for Mario, they resent his tough no nonsense style of coaching and they Fr already planning their escape. Mind you this is with TVD having Rambo snatching everything in sight and bailing out the offense and enjoying a healthy team for the most part. Again we played with an injured QB and an OL that has been decimated.

This is not excusing Mario. His Gattis hire made things much much worse. I am going to repeat this again... THE STAFF HAS BEEN BAD ESPECIALLY GATTIS. Mario knows this and it seems he will correct it soon and bring in one of the best classes in program history. The first of many great classes. To think in YEAR ONE Mario stacking insane talent with better coaching is not going to win is foolish imo.

I remember When Dabo was part of the "Clemsoning" stuff and he made coordinator adjustments.

I remember when Harbaugh had Michigan looking MID for like 5-6 years and now they are a top 3 -5 team.

I remember when Kirby Smart was considered a CORCH and it took him 6 years to win the big one .

What we have this year is the culmination of 20 years of sucking and entitlement. Bad coaching hires , a perfect storm of suck.

But If you think Mario Cristobal is just going to accept sucking then you dont know the man. He will bring whoever he needs to bring to win. He hits on the OC and recruits at this level, with the facilities he will build and I have no doubt he will tirn this program around. You all need to stop this emotional rollercoaster every time we lose.

Oregon got a transfer QB, two transfer RBs, a transfer WR and completely changed their offense
