Been said at nauseum . It's an abomination. I expected 8-9 win season and we will end up with 4 or 5 if we are lucky. It is clear to me from watching this season that:
1. Manny and Richt's players are soft AF. We have heard about gummie breaks, playing video games before a big game, entitlement, and mocking young players who stay for practice working on their craft. We see them taking pictures in gas stations looking like wannabe IG model gangsters and dabbing the opponent as they are getting their asses handed down to them. Despite an offseason of intense work and a season of Mario lighting a fire on their ***, it seems these mental midgets keep quitting at the first sign of adversity. They are not responding well to Mario's no-nonsense style, and are quitting on him tuning him out. Even today Mario hinted at their soft mentality about players not willing to do what it takes ( getting up at 4/5 am in the morning and outworking opponents, or not mentally strong enough when the lights come on).
2. With that being said, coaches have not put the players in the best position to win. The poster boy for their failures is Josh Gattis. @Cribby mentioned that it
was a red
️ the way that Mario put the coaching staff together, big names without cohesion and clashing philosophies, a square peg in a round hole. That has exacerbated our demise. A lot of posters in this board have already jumped ship and even @DMoney is hanging by a thread.
The question is why? Why did he construct then the staff the way he did? Mario Cristobal is NOT an idiot. In every interview he gives he seems aware of what the issues are of his team. When I heard his interviews at Oregon it was the same no BS approach, and he rebuilt that team. Then a big part of the failure is on him because of his coordinators.... why??? Why did he go about the process in such an odd way?
Then it hit me. Mario was trying to salvage a recruiting class that was in the 70s. When he came here, he had to rush everything and try to convince recruits to join him and that Miami was spending big money. He was recruiting with a skeleton staff until Early NSD and until the end we didn't have both our OC/DC ( Shemar was wary of committing to us if he didn't know who the DC was for example). It seems he wanted to have SOMETHING in place between Early National Signing Day and Signing Day to save last year's top 15 class. It worked for THAT BUT it cost us the season.
Now Mario is not stupid. Unlike some of the posts here. For the first time since I can remember, the admin , Athletic director and coaches are aligned. year 1 was a spectacular failure yes, but there are at least 20 players leaving , possibly more with around 40 high school+ portal players incoming. For the first time ever we are investing big thanks to NIL and this class is ABOUT to get a lot better even if we lose all our games and go 4-8. There is big time financial backing in place. Mario will take the necessary steps to make changes to the staff and bring in the right players in here. I expect him to have a coaching staff that is not put last minute with the sole purpose to recruit/salvage a recruiting class. I think that this man is a very smart man who LOVES this university. he legit said he was ****ed off verbatim in the Joe Rose show. ****ed he lost to FSU and got embarrassed. Sick that he hired wrong coaches, sick that the Manny players are such mental weaklings. I think he will do ANYTHING to see this team return to glory. I predict this is the worst season we will ever have under Cristobal. The portal players that are coming will be good. Someone I trust has already hinted that the portal will b e attacked hard and from the tone of that convo it wont be just role players.
I am willing to give him 3 full recruiting cycles and I expect next year for us to be better and marked improvement every year after. Miami is on it's way back, Mario is nuking the whole thing from the ground up and of course learning from his mistakes.
