Recruiting

Miami is always gunna get good skill players it's just we need to get better in the trenches and can't let the Amare coopers and dalvin cooks leave home but only winning does that

UM has never had any good players from outside Florida.

As the OP stated, it's a good thing Richt grabbed these 17 verbals and put an end to the previous recruiting. And this recruiting Jersey nonsense as if they produce NFL players...

I'm pretty sure that class of 2014 nobody was complaining about the out of state savages we knew were coming in. Best class folden assembled by far!

Nice post OP. You're now officially on my idiot list! Sorry ignore list don't want to offend any other porsters!

I believe that Ed Reed was from Louisiana. Ken Dorsey was from California. Jeremy Shockey was from Oklahoma.

Keeping Florida talent, especially South Florida talent, at home is critical. When Folden started at UM, he actually did pretty well in FL; 2012 was a banner year. But, as word got out that he and his buddies were flops, he failed to attract Florida talent. After losing all credibility in Florida, he had to go farther north. Meanwhile, out-of-state programs plucked some of the best Florida talent. It is inexcusable to let Ohio State nab a talent like Bosa from Ft. Lauderdale. To get back to the top, UM has to dominate in South Florida, share the rest of Florida with FSU and UF, and do in other regions what the OSUs and Alabamas have been doing in UM's territory. Grabbing stars nationally is great, but to fill the roster, UM has to rely on the Florida pipeline.

Bosa's mother is an Ohio State alum.

And his uncle played lb there. Kid was going to osu mo matter who coached miami.

Can we just stop with the recruiting talk? Winning will be the biggest tool in recruiting. We have had the talent to win 10 + games for the past decade plus without getting to that number in that entire period of time because of coaching. For every Amari Cooper, Dalvin Cook, Calvin Ridley that gets away we have our own Duke Johnson, Dorsett, Travis Benjamin, Allen Hurns. We need to put them in the positions to succeed. We are never going to lock down South Florida, there are just too many kids down here and too many schools with so many things to offer to get every single one. Recruiting definitely needs to improve locally but it will when we start winning.

You can't get every kid just because your the hometown school. Its inexcusable to think you can get every top local stud to stay home. Other factors at play for certain kids, like Bosa whos mom is a OSU alumni

Nonsense recruiting in NJ huh? **** I'd sure take those terrible players in Gary, Peppers, Walker, etc. over the years. God there's too many idiots on here. South Florida is key but you still have to be able to recruit the rest of the country. DL and OL isn't exactly strong year in year out in Florida so you have to go out of state.

Here comes the " our own back yard" and " put a fence around around south Florida" and " the mythical state of Miami" mantra...did I leave anything out...?

Did Malik Barrow's (4-star DT/Bradenton) mother also attend OSU? I suppose Rahshaun Smith's (5-star LB/Bradenton) mother, father and uncle all attended Clemson. Savion Smith's (4-star DB/Bradenton) whole family played for LSU. The list of 4-star players from IMG Academy/Bradenton who are going out of state is long. Some of the players at IMG are boarding from other states and will return home for college ball, but many if not most are Floridians. UM doesn't have single recruit from IMG. I'm sure you could find a similar situation at other high schools in South Florida. Coker, Shannon and then Folden let the Florida pipeline go dry. On the field failure in the last 10 years certainly was a major factor. Richt will have to reinvigorate Florida recruiting, mostly by showing more success on the field especially in games receiving national attention. Once that happens, UM will pluck the beasts from other regions, studs like Al-Quadin Muhammad from NJ.
