I think even the best recruiters need to show recruits they can out coach opposing sidelines. Once we prove that, the wall around the state of Miami goes up.
The best recruiters get the head coach position and hit the ground running before they step on the field. I remember and i hate to beat the dead horse but Jimbo took over fsu and u saw what he was doing. He was losing his first year and was competeing and taking multiple kids away from bama, it was a matter of time before he won. I never consideed the guy a genius, it shows u cfb is 80% recruiting if u want to win a championship. Most teams that have won titles never win because of awesome playcalling they out talent u
So coaching is only 20% of the equation? Wow.
You keep pointing to Alabama as your example of "recruiting wins" but you are discounting the fact that Saban is actually a phenomenal coach of the game of football that surrounds himself with other great coaches. Coaching football is so much more than just playcalling; it's about teaching technique, discipline, managing a roster, strength and conditioning, etc... Nick Saban is great because he checks every single detail possible. As a result his teams are disciplined, rarely beat themselves and the players are put in a position to succeed on the field. Then you combine this great coaching with the talent he brings in and you see what happens.
You point to Jimbo Fisher but again that makes my point. I agree, Jimbo is not a great coach. FSU is more talented than every team they play each year, yet they lost three games last year for example. Yes, Fisher won a title but that was mainly due to Jameis Winston. A truly great QB like Winston can mask most coaching deficiencies - see Vince Young/Mack Brown, Cam Newton/Gene Chizik, etc.
Miami's great teams combined great coaching
and great players, it wasn't just great players that made Miami. If it is all about recruiting and "out talenting' the other team, how did the 2003 Miami Hurricanes lose to Virginia Tech and Tennessee? Please explain why Miami has lost to teams with much less talent over the past decade or so? It is because of coaching.
