Recruiting Al Golden

It’s a rare feat when you can have the 2nd most players drafter and finish below .500. Golden did that. He was not a complete coach.

Golden was dealt a similar hand to Mario with the Nevin Shapiro scandal, he didn’t have local ties like Mario and basically is produced at the same level Mario is currently producing without all the money and support Mario is getting. His issue was the defensive coordinator scheme was a bad fit for south Florida
what scandal did Mario inherit? Mario got the most resources anyone ever got here and no scholarship sanctions or bowl bans on the eve of the season

That’s probably not going to be perceived as bad as you think it is OP...

Folden still has a fairly significant fanbase on here.
Once someone leaves everyone forgets a large portion of the bad. Manny is a god on this board right now it’s unreal. Golden destroyed recruiting relationships here and did a lot more damage than people remember

Golden was solid his issue came down to not firing his friend as defensive coordinator but richt took goldens kids and had his best years at Miami with them
Golden was awful. Every year we go through this. As for Mario, nothing that is taking place is new to us. We knew these flaws existed. Since we gave him an 8 year deal we have to hope it works itself out. As for Golden, that man had so many issues and not firing “his friend” wasn’t his only issue. He had some good players but lost way more talent plus he was extended twice for doing nothing.

Am pro golden Go look at how many of the guys golden recruited made the NFL

How many he missed made it as well? How many fake top 20 recruiting classes did he get. Dude was recruiting kids he knew wouldn’t get in, recruited kids that dipped after a year, and brought in horrible transfers (utilizing transfers before the portal). He wasn’t good. Imo was the worse HC we brought in since Coker if we consider his experience and the support the school provided him at the time.

That's who he is. A car salesman that can recruit, but still built from the same corching cloth.

Sad when, as a fan, you basically take it from regime to regime

Since we're waxing nostalgic, let's re-visit the career paths of our head men the last 20 years. Coker landed at UTSA (?) before riding off into the sunset. Shannon and Golden haven't and likely won't ever again land a head coaching job. Richt gets a pass for health reasons. Manny? Seems unlikely, though he's relatively young and in retrospect likely would've been better served to work his way up from the Temple gig. They were all sub-standard power five coaches, excluding Richt who I'm giving the benefit of the doubt, and the market has spoken.
Cristobal, somehow, and it's hard to believe given what we've witnessed the last two seasons, had success at Oregon. Maybe, hopefully, eventually he'll land a qb, hire a decent OC - back the eff off, and recruit to the point of being able to out-Jimmy & Joe his counterpart across the field.
I dunno man...jury's out.

I thought golden was a trash recruiter. He had some guys but who tf does he have in the league making pro bowls regularly?
