Golden was solid his issue came down to not firing his friend as defensive coordinator but richt took goldens kids and had his best years at Miami with them

Golden was dealt a similar hand to Mario with the Nevin Shapiro scandal, he didn’t have local ties like Mario and basically is produced at the same level Mario is currently producing without all the money and support Mario is getting. His issue was the defensive coordinator scheme was a bad fit for south Florida

Golden with Mario's budget and resources would have this team at 10 wins this year. The Nevin scandal rocked this program and Golden still did a respectable job recruiting. Mario has NO excuses this year yet here we are at 6-4 staring 6-6 in the face with a potential 4-game losing streak to end the season

Manny was stubborn on offense. He was stubborn not turning the defense over to another DC instead he brought in his protege who he had to take play calling duties from and then he bet on himself his final year and called plays and our defense looked like No D was back. He also couldn't recruit LBs.

Not a Folden fan at all. He might have been a slightly better recruiter than Shannon and Diaz, but that is not saying much. Still had holes and depth issues and struck out on too many difference makers. Folden was a fraud. You can just tell by listening to him. Guy didn't have a clue.

Also, we need to stop defending Golden for D'Onfrio running his defense. Some on here act like Golden was a good coach other than letting his buddy run the defense. Does everybody realize that D'Onfrio was running Golden's defense. D'Onfrio was an unpleasant person and terrible coordinator, but Goldens defense was going to fail no matter who was running it. Golden ran this same defense for Virgina when he as DC there, and he had some success. Problem was that his defensive philosophy and scheme was no longer valid when he became HC at Miami. Teams were running completely different types of offense and Golden never adjusted. He had the athletes, but ran the wrong system....for 5 consecutive years.

Blame and hate D'Onfrio if you want. I don't like the guy either. He has Enos, Gattis like vibes. But make no mistake, the defense we saw under Golden's tenure was 100% Al Goldens defense, not D'Onfrio.
