Really surprised at Shaq's FSU game

Roquan Smith dominated the Rose Bowl against Oklahoma.

The whole notion of LBs not being able to contribute against spread teams is kinda crazy.

I understand UGA runs a different defense....but yea....not sure if that’s valid

Pinckney made numerous plays so there's no need to make excuses for Shaq. We can admit he didn't do much against FSU - it might have been because he's injured.

Pinckney played nearly 2x the number of snaps Shaq did.

Do people bashing Shaq not realize this?

Shaq played well from what i saw in the spots he played. However i think Manny adjusted as 1 poster pointed out the different types of lineups we had on the field during obvious passing situations (3DL, Pinck, Finley, 6 DBs). I thought this was a great adjustment by Manny with having Shaq banged up. He might have actually found a pretty good set too. Shaq was a below average pass defender and that is no slight. Love Shaq and the rest of his game is good, just doesn't play the pass well.

He split time with Mike Smith against UNC but made several nice plays.
It's ok to admit he didn't have a big impact against FSU.
If you want to take the angle that he did a good job making calls and aligning people then ok.

So legitimate questions are negative threads? Pinkney had 5 tackles a TFL and pick. Mike Smith had 3 tackles and a TFL. Shaq had 3 tackles. Just wondering if anyone noticed the ankle still bothering him or if his plays were down because of the ankle.

I understand the DL is swallowing most run plays up.
If it gets negged to Bolivia, it's probably a good indicator that it was not, in fact, a legitimate question.

Also, when you start 4 threads within a five minute span, it's normally a red flag to the rest of the board that you haven't thought any of them through.

Or it could be that I've had the questions on my mind since Saturday but flew home on Sunday and had to put the dog down on Monday so I really hadn't had a chance to get on the board till this afternoon. Next week I will just start a bunch of threads like "Hey everyone how great is Jeff Thomas"

I was at the game. With the D getting so many TFL's and constantly causing 2nd and 3rd and long, Pinkney was often the only true LB on the field. There were A LOT of plays where we had 3 DL, Pinkney and 7 DB's (Finley, Smith and Carter are still more SS than OLB in most situations). The play where Redwine caused a fumble was a coverage sack. With 5 guys manned up and the sole LB spying Francois he had nowhere to throw hot. Redwine and Finley came from his blindside side by side and the blindside guard was occupied with the tackle.

Thanks this answers my question. When I am at games I really just try and watch the entire field so until I go back and rewatch I miss a lot of details.

You know what I like to do when I haven't had a chance to visit this board in a few days? Read what's been posted during that time before I start rattling off questions that have probably already been asked and answered in my absence.

Sorry about your dog, btw. That stuff always sucks.

This is a combo of my real time reactions from 3 rows behind FSU's bench and watching highlights later. I think FSU's offense is precisely the type the striker position was employed for.

Wonder if the ankle was still bothering him? 3 tackles for a middle LB is not very many. Anyone know if his snaps were down?
We so lucky that kid is as tough as nails. He willed his way back on to the field... Shaq is the boss!
