Assuming that Mark won't step down (which is what I prefer), the best case scenario we have now is for him to keep preparing Kosi for UF next season and make another run at the Coastal. If he does the following, which I think he might, we have a chance of rebounding next year (even though, the best thing is for Mark to leave/retire):
  1. Start Kosi the rest of the way and let Jarrin get some reps as well
  2. Hire an innovative OC who will be more pass oriented, but still runs the ball:
    1. Remove Jon and either have the new OC as the QB coach or someone else not named Richt
    2. Truly allow this new OC to be the head coach of the O. Give suggestions but let them run the O show.
  3. Obviously, replace Searles with my 10 year old daughter or ANYONE else. Seriously though, we need a real professional at this all-too-important position. Empty the piggy bank, but get a proven commodity in there.
  4. Replace Hartley at ST's. An athlete making a play here or there and a PK doing his thing doesn't offset terrible coverage on kick/punt returns and atrocious blocking on punts and FG's. You can make an argument that Hartley can remain as the TE's coach and keep recruiting - I'll leave that to smarter minds than mine - but we cannot afford to have undisciplined play at ST's.
  5. Do all that you can to keep Diaz one more season. I'd be fine if he were made HC in waiting. Totally fine with that.
  6. Finally, just be a Bobbah Bowden!!! It worked for Bobbah. It worked for Butch Davis. It worked for Mack Brown. Stop thinking that you're an X's and O's guy and start realizing your actual gifts as a figure head. Recruit like crazy, raise money like crazy and be a support to the X's and O's guy.
Some, ****, many on this board have resorted to hate for Richt. I don't hate him. I think he's a fine man with more pride and hubris than he thinks he has, and is a guy who has talents, but has misjudged what they are. If he turns into a Bobbah, then I'd actually be OK with him staying. But, he HAS to make these changes, or else, he might not survive for a 5th season. As always, hoping for the best and expecting not much.

I agree with you but I only think 1 and possibly 4 & 5 will be the only changes.

Zero optimistic view for next season unless Richt miraculously changes his mid last century offensive philosophy to this century.

Richt’s future lies on the decision he makes after this season. Either he sinks with his son (status quo) or he’ll invest in a quality OC to run more than his 12 plays. Personally, I think he sinks and his last season will be next year.

Blake James should go with him. He hired Richt and gave him a pointless extension. I don’t care how much money he raises, it’s pointless when you’re costing the school millions after Richt’s new contract. We need someone who raises money and understands what it is Miami needs to be successful.

Agreed our front four on the DL will have to play lights out next year, plus we could be replacing multiple LB’s although I feel none of them should leave. I do think getting Frierson, Blades, Hall, and the rest of the young bucks in the secondary experience would’ve been nicer than the little they’ve received this year thus far. But I think overall we should be very talented back in the back 4, especially with Carter and Hall playing safety. As to the OL we in theoryshould be better than this season and should be playing our younger guys there as well. With Rosier gone the QB position automatically gets a massive upgrade but it will depend on how big and consistently good to great it will be will depend on Perry and/or Williams progress at the position. The RB’s should be one of the more deeper and talented groups in all of the ACC, if not the nation. And the WR’s should hopefully become more consistent in getting open and creating YAC with the speed we will possess there across the position. And lastly the TE’s should be stronger and more experienced including Pollendey.

As to the coaching carousel, I agree with all your numbers but doubt Richt will incorporate most, if all of them unfortunately. Especially if by some miracle we beat Pitt and win the bowl game. Then he would probably think all the “adjustments” he made are proof positive that he’s got a firm grasp on what the offense needed and how to “execute” better. Which would be a MAJOR mistake on his part. We desperately need a new OL coach, OC/QB coach, and ST coach just as a starter. Jonny Rotten sucks as the QB coach, find him somewhere to go - anywhere but continuing here. Find a fiery OL coach that can teach the techniques we need to play aggressively in both the run and pass components. Bring in a combo OC/QB coach so they can truly develop Perry and/ Williams, and bring us in another high end quality starter to redshirt and learn. Lastly, a true ST guy that understands the dynamics of field position and can bring some fire to special teams that will allow us to even be freaking Top 50 or better in the nation as a whole ST wise. Work with Baxa to get him better and Jesus find out for good if you can use Feagles or bring in another punter to challenge him for real. Change Feagles kicking approach - he’s not an Australian freaking punter.

These are what I’d do if I was Richt and how I see next season, if we can make all the changes necessary to win the Coastal handily, challenge Clemson legitimately in the ACCCG, and possibly make the CFP or a NY6 bowl. Then, and only then, will progress be made moving this program in to the direction we all want to see it go. I think we’d all be ok with a 10-2/11-1 year in 2019 if these changes were made.

If we lost to Va tech I doubt if op would be posting his message. Typical knee jerk reaction by one of our posters after yesterday’s win. Reality is we beat perhaps the worse va tech team in 15 years. The week before we played them, Pitt destroyed them and took the fight out of them. We are the same team that lost 4 games in a row to bad teams. Next game against Pitt will reveal if we have improved or are the same bad team we have been most of the year.

This is actually spot on.

Who are you and what have you done with the real @Hemsleysalmons?!

Nobody hates him personally. We know he’s a great guy. I hope he’s holding that unclaimed $1.5 B lottery ticket, all the power, health and happiness to him. I just don’t like the decisions he’s made on the assistants he’s hired, the BS fed to us preseason about the team’s progress, and as someone mentioned, the “Denny’s Menu” playbook with all 12 combo platters at the same price from the 1980s. If he changes per your prescription in the OP, amen. I will shine his shoes for the rest of my life. My gut says, he’s happy with the status quo. Therein lies my beef.

So many couch ADs in here is astounding. With Golden is was how do we build a program. Richt comes in wins 9 games and a solid bowl game vs a top 25 team. Wins 10 games the next year with Malik Rosier. We have a down season and all of a sudden the program needs a complete new staff? Get the **** outta here.

Yeah spot on man

Ceiling: 9-4 losing to Clemson in the ACCCG

Floor: 7-6 with a mediocre bowl victory

Mark it down for as long as Richt is here
