Realignment - What happens to the bowls?

I like the idea of using major bowls for the playoffs on a rotation.

I also like the idea someone said of having smaller bowls have to bid for teams and provide an NIL element to incentivize lids to play. That way you have teams playing where they want and where they think they can draw the most fans. Maybe add a rule a team can’t be in the same (non-playoff) bowl two years in a row (or only 1 year out of 3) so it isn’t the same teams in the same bowls every year. It could also be a way to matchup Power2 teams with those left on the outside looking in.

“I think you’d also have to offer insurance premiums” to big time players so they don’t sit out.

Some good thoughts in this thread.

That was my thought as well, which I neglected to include, the insurance premium. The main reason kids r not participating is the probability of draft stock dropping due to injuries.

I suggested this a while ago, but I feel there should be evaluations & draft positions before the bowl game & insurance premium associated w/ said draft positions, only, for 1st 2-round draft projections. Example: 1st round picks 1-16 have a set package, 17-32 a set package, etc etc. Something of that nature. The insurance kicks in if u get injured and ur draft projection changes b/c of said injury or football career done.

I could careless, I’d have no problem going independent and just trash every team on our schedule.
I remember we had trouble finding teams to play us, we would just thump and walk off the field to feed another day.

We forced the so called elite teams to play us especially in bowl games.

We just wanted to play anywhere any time even in a dark alley we just didn’t give a hoot.

I am late to the convo. How many schools are there in the Power 5 today? Are there any NON P5 schools today that could/should be a P5 school? If there are 65-70 P5 schools I wouldn't be surprised to see the number reduced and run like the NFL. Two conferences subdivided into divisions. Play 10-12 games. Perhaps preseason games could be played against other schools playing some other brand of football.

I am pro whatever gives us college fans moar and b3tter college football. Hard to imagine just the Big Ten and SEC providing that.

120 fbs schools. With realignment you’ll see that number reduced by about half. Which is a good thing

Love this idea
It is a nice idea. Skipping the game that has no meaning or value to some kids with NFL aspirations is going to be the right move for many of them. I like the idea for insurance, but getting your *** whooped on a national stage is a bad look for those kids as well;)

Not trying to be a prick, why is that a good thing? BUT not just that. If 120 fbs gets cut in half what happens to the other 60 former fbs schools? If Nevada were left out, would they be in effect a D1aa school? These are just a few questions that came to mind.

The more intersectional games you have the more value each game has. The Nevada comment is interesting. I think we go to a P3 model with the third being made up of good mid majors while some yes go down a division while saving their athletics departments money

I think you'll eventually see a split of the 120. Right now, any given year there are only ever about a dozen or so teams that really have a chance to contend, with it being top heavy even among that dozen. If you split it in half, you could add another division level above AA. D1 schools, but with their own season and playoff. A lot of schools would then be more competitive and have a chance to win their own championship at their own level. This would be composed of schools that maybe don't have the resources to play with the big boys—or choose not to. Maybe make these conferences more regional like it used to be with D1 to help make operations costs more reasonable. I feel this could be what most Go5 schools could do now and have more traction. Doesn't mean they can't ever get into the big conferences, but it would give them an opportunity to establish themselves as a legit program before making the jump. Maybe we should add relegation/promotion into things.
