Ready for a good laugh?

That would be 1973. We're alone in second place.

Yup. There ya have it folks.

Any championship Miami team obliterates any championship team pre-1973 with an 85 man roster. Same could probably be said for most teams after the limitations were set.

Bro, we get so triggered w/o understanding context.

But imma tell u why; it’s b/c we’re hanging on to the last bit of fabric of our 20 year run. So anything that looks remotely negative, these mofos run w/ it. Lol.

Fact is, if we had the same level of dominance from ‘04- today, that still may not put us in tier 1, but we’re for sure Tier 2. These aforementioned programs have been winning titles before many of us were actually born & are still relevant today. We busted through & had a 20 year run, & have lost mucho momentum as an established power. It is what it is.
Honestly couldn't have said it any better. Might be some of the realest words posted on this site.

To add to your comment a bit...
Howard took 5 season roughly to get us to being Championship caliber. 83-84 season being the crowning achievement... from that point we were consistently championship caliber till we got crushed by Bama in 92-93 season (93 Sugar Bowl to be exact)... That's 10 seasons right there...
After that the dropoff started... We were ok but not great for Erickson's remaining tenure ending in the 95 Orange Bowl against Nebraska ( The name Schelesinger haunts me to this day)....
Things were basically stagnant or not great once Butch got here and took a bit to get rolling again... It was the 98-99 season where things finally starting heading upward again( Edge vs UCLA - Baller) and stayed that way till we lost to you know who in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl...That's 5 Seasons...
After that we fell off the College Football edge and haven't really been back since... So realistically since and counting the 83-84 season we've only really been Championship caliber or close to it for 15 seasons.... It's tough to compare to teams that have way more time being relevant than that...
Don't get me wrong I'm happy for what we have and want to believe we can see it again....

Howard took 5 years and he was one helluva coach.

So how long will it take with someone who couldn't lift, let alone carry Howard's jockstrap?

Refusing to face our current reality or continually making excuses to justify our bad choices tells us more about how far we've really fallen.

I hear you but I don't see any difference. The teams were virtually the same as far as the actual teams. Then look at NFL production. Miami had Frank Gore and USC had Reggie Bush. You can go on and on from there.

I think you're splitting hairs.
I'm not comparing talent or anything else! Besides ships.and usc is more relevant in that area. But i agree with you.

Man, Out of all my teams professionally & collegiately, Miami Football is the program I follow the closest. I’m a realist, bro. I’m a fan, yes, but I been found out the tooth fairy & Santa Claus wasn’t real; therefore, I live in reality. Reality is, currently we’ve been irrelevant for close to 20 yrs now. We’ve had the 7-0 moment in 2013, or The RAB moment in 2016, & of course the fun 10-0 moment in 2017......those are moments w/ no substance.

I agree but I will add that Howard did something for that time period that no one else thought to do... Hitting the inner cities of Dade and Broward where not many if any other Coaches would go and hit the jackpot in doing so.... For the times that was a massive swing in Howards favor and good for him for doing it because nothing else that has happened to us since would have happened if not for what Howard did then...

That's not accurate if you're judging national championships.

Who do you think would be the top 3 in national championships since 1970?
  • Alabama - 10
  • Miami - 5
  • Nebraska - 5
  • Oklahoma - 4
  • USC - 4
  • Clemson - 3
  • Florida - 3
  • Florida State - 3
  • LSU - 3
  • Notre Dame - 3
  • Ohio State - 3
I think you left out Michigan

Fair enough. But barely any of this ——-^ explains the existence of “tier 2” on this list.

Those three teams have been just as irrelevant as us since ~2005 (Nebraska, believe it or not, has actually been worse since we stole their soul in 01).

I will grant that those 3 schools were more relevant back when most people listened to the games on the radio, teams had 200 guys on the roster and black kids weren’t allowed to play. Prior to Vince Young, Texas’ most recent championship was won by the last all white team to win a title. I guess that should count for something.

And - Our Lady can ***k right on out of that top tier. If it weren’t for a terrible fumble call (in 1988! no less) the last time they would’ve won anything Joe Montana was their qb. Call me crazy, but I just can’t put too much stock in accomplishments made in leather helmets. That was a different game being played.

They have a championship in 1997, before that was 1948. The list I showed was 3 or more since 1970.
With the exception of Baga, many of those teams in tiers 1, 2, and 3 haven’t done squat in years. Including us. These rankings seem to place too much emphasis on what a program did MANY years ago.

One that always sticks out to me is TN. They claim 6 NC’s. 2 in 30’s and 2 in the 40’s that were no where near unanimous, one ‘51 and the only one in the modern era in ‘98.

Perhaps, I’m missing something. What’s the good laugh?

Bro, since 2004 The Tier 2 teams have had more 10+ game seasons, more division titles, more conference titles, more bowl game victories, etc. Nebraska has been complete *** since 2012, but again we’re talking a long standing tradition. SC brought football attention to the WC, something that was dominated by EC & MW schools. Nebraska & UT football have always been associated as good Ole fashion college football that’s produced legends.

Again, it’s called all time, not 30 years.

The fair way is, and always has been, to only look at teams after scholarship limitations went into place, which I believe was in the 70's.

Those Oklahoma teams that won like 48 straight had something like 200 guys on scholarship.

It's a comparison over two different sports.
Good point.

And now Alabama has like 200 analysts on staff.

WTF, Michigan hasn't been **** since the days of leather helmets and no facemasks, and please don't tell me about 1997 when they squeaked past Washington State while Nebraska was abusing Tennessee worse than Derek Vinyard in a shower full of Aryans and had the BCS started one year earlier they wouldn't even have half a national championship in the last ~75 years.
