Ready for a good laugh?

It is a good list. We have made up a lot of ground since 1980'ish. If you think we are a little rusty what is Nebraska?

Considering we were more dominant than any program ever (and yes I'm including Alabama now), it's reasonable.

The records that we set over that short-term coupled with the guys we put into the NFL and their success there will never be touched.

Wake me up when a team wins 58 straight at home, posts three of the top five all-time win streaks and puts 19 guys into the first round in four years.

It was two years after us and those teams weren't as good in terms of draft picks or NFL dominance as our teams. How on earth are they "more relevant?"

The fair way is, and always has been, to only look at teams after scholarship limitations went into place, which I believe was in the 70's.

Those Oklahoma teams that won like 48 straight had something like 200 guys on scholarship.

It's a comparison over two different sports.

I did say a lil more! But its only because they have a more recent title and almost went back 2 back. That's all i got cash money cane!

Fact is, if we had the same level of dominance from ‘04- today, that still may not put us in tier 1, but we’re for sure Tier 2. These aforementioned programs have been winning titles before many of us were actually born & are still relevant today. We busted through & had a 20 year run, & have lost mucho momentum as an established power. It is what it is.

To add to your comment a bit...
Howard took 5 season roughly to get us to being Championship caliber. 83-84 season being the crowning achievement... from that point we were consistently championship caliber till we got crushed by Bama in 92-93 season (93 Sugar Bowl to be exact)... That's 10 seasons right there...
After that the dropoff started... We were ok but not great for Erickson's remaining tenure ending in the 95 Orange Bowl against Nebraska ( The name Schlesinger haunts me to this day)....
Things were basically stagnant or not great once Butch got here and took a bit to get rolling again... It was the 98-99 season where things finally starting heading upward again( Edge vs UCLA - Baller) and stayed that way till we lost to you know who in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl...That's 5 Seasons...
After that we fell off the College Football edge and haven't really been back since... So realistically since and counting the 83-84 season we've only really been Championship caliber or close to it for 15 seasons.... It's tough to compare to teams that have way more time being relevant than that...
Don't get me wrong I'm happy for what we have and want to believe we can see it again....

I hear you but I don't see any difference. The teams were virtually the same as far as the actual teams. Then look at NFL production. Miami had Frank Gore and USC had Reggie Bush. You can go on and on from there.

I think you're splitting hairs.

No. Not at all. Just pointing out that we shouldn’t get our panties in a bunch because we’re listed as a 3rd tier caliber team, when they’re talking about all time. But Yea, if you’re gonna do ALL TIME, Yale should definitely be represented.

Either you don't get my comment our you're literally braindead. A mediocre P5 team today would DESTROY a team made up of all white guys from the 1920's like me playing against a bunch of four year olds. Those Yale teams would lose to most top-flight high school teams today.
 
Didn't Army win a bunch of championships with Whizzer White and dudes with other cool names?

I'm really struggling to understand how people continue to forget Miami was a top 11 team in the final rankings in 2003 and 2004. It all fell apart at the Peach Bowl in 2005.

And, again, you're completely ignoring the absurd, tremendous dominance and impact on the sport the likes of which no other team has had, ever, or will, ever, at both the NCAA and NFL levels.

The problem with stuff like this is there is no comparison for us. No other team in modern history came from nowhere, completely and utterly dominated the sport (and pros), and then fell back to mediocrity.

EDIT: It's probably worth noting here that it's effectively happened twice, and therefore must be assumed it can happen again.
