rb rotation with lyle

That’s fair. I don’t know what the answer is specifically

But do we really think Dawson/Mario/Mirabal have never discussed this?

I just constantly read about how great MM are at coaching OL and they’ve got their fingerprints on the offense but yet in 3 years no one has ever said “maybe we should run it outside?”

If people like us feel that then are they just not good coaches?

Seems you can’t have it both ways to me

haven´t we seen some runs on the outside by Fletcher that have been rather successful, including in this game?

also, i expressed concern about the tight formations in this thread ------> https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/why-are-we-playing-in-a-phonebooth-so-often.200840/

and how far outside is enough? we've ran off tackle quite a few times lately ... **** we've pulled linemen too

Yeah and this is the whole chicken or the egg thing right?

I’ve been listening to the tight splits thing for 3 years but yall just ignore it when people that know what they’re talking about tell us why they do it and why it’s beneficial

So we are just back to Mario/Mirabal/Dawson being stupid or what?

It’s just been constantly pointing to a “problem” but never a solution based on anything other than “DO IT DIFFERENT” so I have no clue

Yeah to be clear I’m not saying we shouldn’t

But like I know **** all about this stuff just like the rest of you. So if the coaches know less than us why are they considered the top of the food chain?

I’ll say straight up I’m not a fan of the running scheme. And idk if it’s Dawson/mario/mirabal. But it feels pretty constant since Mario has been here. I’m not saying they don’t know anything or I’m smarter by any means. I believe they do a great job teaching and we seem to pass block really well. It’s hard for any rushing attack to find lanes when our splits are so tight and we invite more bodies into the box

We've shown more 21 split backs gun the past couple weeks than ever before. (I know this is 20 but you can put Lofton in the slot or just run it as 20 with Toney, Marion, and Daniels)

It's pretty easy to get creative in the passing game to backs out of that formation, I'd love to see Lyle used there and get him the ball in the passing game. Either in the flats or vertical.

Last year, we were 4th in P4 in yards/rush. It just didn't feel like it because we didn't have a lot of flashy, explosive TD runs.

The year before we were 13th.

Our run game is highly effective.

I hear you and don’t necessarily disagree

I hate to over simplify it too much but end of the day it feels to me this is the lowest risk highest reward approach

At least that’s what the coaches feel anyway

With our defense the way it is a more “conservative” esque approach does seem to make sense grand scheme

Maybe the FSU game is too fresh on our minds because they sold their souls to stop the run and they still got their asses beat

Right and like my guy @rsa coral gables and others have pointed out we’ve had a couple nice outside runs this year. Was that because the defense was crashing the middle because they’re so used to it?

Sure seems like we routinely take advantage of that approach (the flea flicker was a perfect example)

I just feel as if it could be better in those late game scenarios. We are trying to run clock (which we need to) with a big lead. But the defense is just exploding into the A gap so we are basically running 1 or 2 runs for minimal gain then punting. Basically just giving away possession. Feel as if there has to be a balance where certain running plays still have a chance to be explosive and gives us first downs. That way we can actually bleed the clock

I think the tight splits are designed to minimize negative plays, but it also has the effect of forcing teams to commit a lot of bodies to the box and have safeties lurking.

The result is that the edges can be softer and middle-field defenders are more susceptible to play action.

I get that

When you’re trying to put the game away the last thing you want is negative plays. If we feel we can run it up the gut for 3.4 yards per play and we get it done it looks ******* awesome right?

We’ve faced some pretty **** good teams too

Watching us im just not sure if our OL aren’t executing well enough or what

This isn’t a great example because they are very good at what they do, but I feel as if a team like Michigan does a really good job with their running scheme. Do I want to be Michigan? No. But they do an elite job opening lanes in the running game

You can kind see it with our recruiting

Mario has been recruiting 6-8 350lb monsters across the line for a reason. This is just what he wants to do.

Also I hate to move the goal posts but one thing that has always driven me nuts about Mario is if we are trying to avoid negative plays (which ok cool) and be tough and disciplined etc

Then why the **** is the OL getting so many pre snap penalties this year?

But maybe I should delete this and not give myself the blood pressure spike
