For young people today the world is a cesspool. Social media is more than a lot of what young people can deal with. Money and fame are not immune to the pressure upon the youth of today. Yes this is a tragedy. There are a lot of confused young people out there. A lot of parents miss the signs and friends also. That in itself is the tragedy.
People call this younger generation “soft”

As someone that makes a living through social media I see first hand what younger people go through with it. Even as an older guy that doesn’t get wrapped up in it, you can feel it. It messes with you. Can’t imagine being young and trying to navigate it to be honest.

The synthetics are just a new world.. ******* disaster
Yes I remember the nkemdiches one jumped out of a windows due to being high on spice the other was found naked in the woods high off spice. I also remember going to New York seeing people laid out from doing K2. I dated a girl who at the time dealt with anxiety and depression. She was prescribed Ambien or Xanax I can't quite remember but she told me she takes on with a glass of wine. I oppose that and she got really mad and told me off and said she knows what she was doing. We broke up and eventually she accidentally od. I wish I had let a friend know she was drinking and taking prescription drugs. Man it's tough talking about this even now

Yea man. It is tough. I had become desensitized to it for a period of time. Which in and of itself is sad. I think people continuing to shed light on it, tell their stories or tell the stories of those they lost create progress slowly but surely. Sometimes it just takes one more story to land the right way to drive it home.

Thanks for sharing. As an older retired man I see that influence with the grandchildren and their friends. It’s very worrisome

This is such a tragedy.

I would like to add that most users are well aware of taking the fentanyl instead of heroin, especially the addicts. It’s stronger and therefore more desirable too. I helped a cousin get clean and they only ever wanted the fentanyl. The other stuff didn’t get them high anymore.

I can’t imagine burying my child. I’m likely not mentally strong enough to deal with that especially if CTE was to blame for the death AND I likely had a very large influence on their decision to play football, directly or indirectly.
They're aware because of how common fentanyl is now... It has become the "go to " for addicts.... but... 10+ years ago things were a bit different.... Fentanyl was no where near as known as it is now.... I watched the progression happen... Once it became known it spread like wildfire.... I myself was never a needle user but I'm sure if I was still using at that time I was would've laced blunts with it.... Thankfully I was clean by then and working in treatment trying to help..... Really tough thing to witness...

I attend meetings to this day because it helped me but sadly so many walk through the door and only stay long enough to clean up for the next run.... I saw it working in treatment all the time.... The people come from all walks of life and all end up the same way... Broke, strung out and clinging to life by a hair.... some can make it out... others don't want too.... I learned you can't force people that are caught in the grips....
At some point everyone that gets clean hits a wall, I did. You have that moment where you literally say ' I got nothing left , I'm spent"... For some it might happen in treatment , some Jail, some can do it on their own with no outside help, very rare but it happens....
Not really sure where I'm going with this, I mean I can go on for ever on this subject but overall I want people to get clean.. You really can learn to stay clean no matter what happens to you... It takes time but you can build that strength... You have to want too obviously but a person can do it.... I lost my Mom May 2nd and May 3rd I was in a meeting because I knew that's where I needed to be.... That's what 10+ years of clean time taught me , go to a place where people understand....Everyone needs a safe zone...

Thanks for sharing. I was at an Institute on Substance Use Disorders last year around this time. It was the first time I went after many years of colleagues telling me how valuable a meeting it is for really anyone. Part of the meetings is sitting in on an Alcoholics Anonymous open meeting, a Narcotics Anonymous opening meeting and an Al-Anon meeting. It was an important experience. I won't be attending this coming week, as I opted to let others experience it in the hope it helps them better care for their patients, family, friends, etc.

My friends will be there to share their stories, help each other, etc. One wrote a book on his story and asked me to pre-read it... it was an honor to do so..

I am by no means an expert. My experience does not include usage by myself. I helped my cousin get clean 5 years ago in 2019. Based upon things they told me and other users that trusted me, I believe it was known at that time by most addicts. However, it was new and not widely known outside the community like it is today. Users may make questionable life decisions, but they know what they are shooting into their veins. I just wanted to say the “poor me, I didn’t know excuse”, is not likely for the majority of addicts. That’s all and I’m by no means an expert.

The scariest thing I ever saw was when they would shoot themselves up with used cotton that contained no more drugs in it. The “cotton shakes” were horrible to witness.

I've heard and seen all kinds of stuff... I mean I'm glad to have an understanding of what's going on out there but sometimes I wish I didn't hear some of the stuff...

If you want to misconstrue what I wrote, that is your prerogative. If you want to remain intentionally ignorant, that is your prerogative.

But if you think you know more about the case than me, you are out of your mind. Or maybe you were somehow involved in the case and I just don’t remember you? You were not in the DA’s office so that can’t be the answer. Were you on the defense teams, because I worked with or against all of those lawyers in my career and I don’t recall your presence? Or maybe you have argued over 30 murder cases and 75 felony cases to a jury verdict in your legal career like I have so you understand law and evidence better than I do.

Or maybe are you just like 99.9% of the people in the world you have an opinion and absolutely no basis for your opinion other than some BS like, “the 1st amendment means I can write all the stupid sh*t that I want”. Well congrats because you have proven your case that we allow people on CIS to write all the stupid sh*t that they want.
Ray might not have murdered 2 people but you just murdered 1.

Thanks. I was just trying to give people accurate facts of a situation that I was familiar with first hand.

Ray was definitely hanging around some bad people and for that he paid a very public price, but that is still so different from him having a direct involvement.

I mentioned my addiction struggles above. I’m undersized played from 6-University. I’ve a lways questioned CTE stuff, but nonetheless went through ALOT. Been clean and sober awhile.

Son is ten. He will play flag until he’s older nonetheless.
im still questioning it.

Its pretty easy for them to broadly slap cte on known football players brains...did they check if the person already have a mental health diagnosis as well..

for example ppl have slapped cte on mark walton and antonio brown. These are 2 folks that are guaranteed diagnosed with bi polar disorder or schizoeffective disorder.

Had spradic behavior throughout life and in the case of mark the loss of a parent (mental break) and his age , drug use, led to his sporadic behavior and arrest. Antonio brown has been bi polar since a teen ...he wasnt natonio brown then...but as u can see that diagnose with drug use spawns what we see.

I know folks that act like them that havet opicked up a ball in their life but know one is running their brains for cte postr partum

I’m not sure to be honest. I know now in retrospect I had several concussions throughout my years but also suffered from severe anxiety as a child.

None of that was helped. Only suppressed by alcohol and drug use and concussion protocols have changed for football across most levels. You also have to assume that the younger the more fluid and flexible the brain is so recovery from head injury can occur quicker, but long term impact could be unidentified.

To me it’s all a big cluster ****. But first I want my son to be happy and healthy not force him into little league because I did.

He is happy just throwing the football 🏈 with his old man most days and that brings me JOY!

Bro! My heart goes out to you regarding your mom. My mother was and to this day is my rock.

Without her, my kids, my higher power I wouldn’t be here today. It’s not talked about enough.

My sister is a counselor at a rehabilitation center! Anybody struggling on HERE that doesn’t want to talk about there issues and wants help! You can always DM me. DO NOT be afraid to reach out for help. REAWAKEN yourself to the miracles of LIFE 😇😇😇😇😇

I mess with people and debate on this site and it sometimes unnecessarily might seem personal. It never is. Just know it’s my OWN thing projecting off you.

Man I’d like to press your mind on it more in the future. The ex-wife and I starting to have discussions on it now.

He wants to and has the inner anxiety and aggression I was able to use at prime element on the football field. I never felt anxiety , pressure, and isolation until Before and After I stopped playing full time.
